CubeSoldier

My GOTY 2023. Feels like its tailor made for me.
I've loved Baba is You and La-Mulana before this and this feels like the perfect love child of the two with some extra SystemErasure oomph on top of it.
The Sokoban puzzles feel like theyre challenging but not too frustrating but theres definitely some difficulty spikes and late game puzzles can get quite tough. The big issue is the amount of backtracking needed in some parts of the game. If you missed certain elements earlier on then you might have to traverse most of the levels multiple times.
Unlike La-Mulana the secrets in this one are mostly solvable with good note taking and some experimentation. The game also does a great job nudging you towards its more intricate stuff later on. I havent felt such a great sense of mystique in a game in a lot of time. Uncovering all the secrets was a total blast.
Also the music slaps.
It's not something most people will mesh with but if you happen to be someone who can get into this game youre probably going to love it.
