Maybe the worst game in the franchise. Though 2's balance is awful, the game is old, has a massive scope compared to its predecessor, and is relatively short. DQ6 could have been so much better if about half of it was just shaved off. There were many times during the experience I genuinely wanted to skip this one and move on to 7, but I decided to give it a chance.
The fact this game's a Dragon Quest may be one of its only redeeming factors. It has the same lovable aesthetic and energy, and some of the character designs are favourites of mine. However, the gameplay feels dated. The vocation system in this one is just a pain to deal with, the game being split between two maps gets pretty annoying, and the game's overall length just detracts from all the genuinely good moments in here.
You can tell 6 was meant to be something huge to follow the massive successes of the previous three games in the series, but it ended up falling victim to a scope too large for the core game to support, and ends up being an agonizing slog of a game to get through, especially following the brief but grand adventures of the other two Zenithian games.
On a more positive note, this is my second to last Dragon Quest game and even though the series has lows, it's pretty astonishing that something about this series makes me want to finish even games I don't like.

This game was unique in that it felt like an awful game, but dear GOD was it a ridiculously good time to play with friends. The character models were ugly, the game literally locked you out if you got to a certain level as free to play, but I'll keep the fond memories I have of logging on to this game on a random night to play with friends.
Ocarina of Time is truly an excellent game. With many games of this era, you have to enjoy with the knowledge they're older in mind. This does not apply to Ocarina of Time. The game's surprisingly open ended, and genuinely encourages the player to explore at every turn. It's full of side content and a super unique and colorful cast of characters that never let the experience go stale. The story here's absolutely timeless. Even though many of the twist are so iconic I've known them for years, I still genuinely had a great time watching everything come together.
All of the dungeons were genuinely really fun, and, probably due in part to playing the 3DS version, even the infamous water temple was a great time to explore. Speaking of the 3DS version specifically, it genuinely looks amazing. I sometimes forget how good 3DS games could look. It's obviously made for a portable system, but genuinely does look and sound great. Of course, it isn't without flaw. No game is. Though vagueness is part of the sense of adventure, I wish the game could have been less cryptic at times and just made it clear what to do. There are also sections that were just not fun, like the Thieves' Hideout.
Playing classic, beloved games is always a little daunting because of the fear it won't live up to expectations, and if I have to be honest, this is probably not the greatest game of all time. But I can't even begin to imagine booting up the original on your N64 in 1998 before 3D gaming was as commonplace as it is today and just how magical that would have felt. This game is a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
