GOTY | 2023

Games I enjoyed in 2023. Mildly ordered.

Very happy I decided to revisit one of my favorite games and find further delight. Still aesthetically brilliant, still mechanically brilliant, what a beautiful game.
The game that finally had me making progress learning how to play fighting games. It's stunning, feels great and has an interesting roster of fighters. Good fun!
One of the best games ever continues to be just that, with an additional run-based mode that changes up enough to keep things interesting. And it continues to be one of the best games to watch someone else play. Brilliant stuff.
An incredible combat system, placed in a structure that tries it's hardest to stop you from loving it.
My year of fighting games continues! I really enjoy the complete package here, even if I like GGST's fighting a touch more.
Beautifully concise!
Been playing with a full multiplayer crew. While that does mean I don't get to bond with the party characters on the same level as I would playing solo or 2 player, it does mean I've had many fun moments shared with friends. Very dense game that continues to delight every session.
The perfect heist simulation, all the way down to hubris betraying you.
A very expressive, fun, heartwarming story you can play in a single sitting.
I was not expecting this game to grab me in the way it did. The smart, concise writing; the frantic combat; the clever and fun side-missions; and just watching as the revolutionary movement grows and it's people thrive. A delight!
Dense crunchy labyrinth of gorgeous colors, rad music, and interesting world. Give it a shot.
Don't Nod please keep making these.
One of the coolest combat systems I've played in years.
Interesting city-builder that changes the structure in fun ways. Also you get to take care of beaver-folk, that's fun!
For a game that holds so much Glorgu bait, I ended up liking it, not loving it. That said, I'm very excited to recommend it to people for years to come as a stellar gateway into exploration games!
An impactful mega-labyrinth with a very strong sense of aesthetic.
Lovely example of a game examining a genre (city builder) and presenting it's systems and mechanics in a thoughtful way. It ends up being more a puzzle game than city-builder but that's beside the point.
