a game that has so much to say but ultimately, says nothing
the mechanics are fun! even in the easiest difficulty, there is some difficulty that keeps you on your toes. Some of the segments were picky on the cameras and the musical bits were nonsensical but it was really a delight to fiddle around with.
the story...the complexities they tried to take tackle at times feel...misconceived. one thing the game gets right: major news networks must be neutral. you do need to show both sides and in a country like (Not) Britain and United States, this is a problem. i do believe you need to show facts, not one side over the other, and that was expressed in my gameplay. But the politics of the game is so painfully centrist it made me roll my eyes more times or laugh that I thought it would.
despite on your politics in real life, making both sides of this games conflict so cartoonishly backwards in their respected camps just really kills the underlining conversations to be had on their actions and what they believe in. Maybe that is the point, and the satirical British writing falls short on me, but it just was more grating to me than intriguing. But there are moments of true genuinity, true writing chops were I'm sitting there like, "Why cant MOST of this game be like this." (also at some point the game really tried to push "not all rich people are evil" and i sat at my desk laughing for a few minutes in a call).
I just...I dont know. I dont hate the game, nor do I like it. It's hard to pin point my exact feelings, but it is certainly an intriguing game. I do see myself playing it in the future to see what would happen in the other endings.
One thing though, the amount of LGBT rep made me smile a lot.

its surprising to me this and BTS are the last two LIS games i havent played yet, considering the main song is from my second favorite singer of all time.
no powers this time, a rather simple story of a kid trying to go through his day, but sets up the next game nicely! dontnod really improved their writing from the first game, and i'm glad this trend continued onto the next

its absolutely insane to me that this exists at all. it shouldnt exist but nightdive fucking did! one of the best remakes to exist, period. a perfect combination of 90s mechanics with modern day gameplay standards that make a challenging, but rewarding experience. what's disappointing is that the ending was underwhelming (which doesn't begin to describe it) but researching a bit, they are planning to rework the ending to be more inline with the rest of the remake. when it release, i will no doubt be playing again.

one of my favorite things about the release of this dlc was Idris (one of the sexiest men alive btw) saying in the ad, "The game is fixed." Implying they finally fixed Cyberpunk, when in fact they did not fix Cyberpunk. I can officially say I had more crashes and bugs with this DLC than the original game back in 2020.
Anyway, besides that little nitpick...its more Cyberpunk! I'm disappointed there wasn't more to explore in the new map and/or more quests with the new characters. But what can I say, I'm glad it's a more focus experience because of its shorter length.
The new ending too...thanks for making me cry again CD Project Red.

I just want to say while I was excited for the inclusion of selectable pronouns for my character (especially they/them pronouns), I do want to take a moment and point out Zenimax's horrible treatment to their trans employee. It did weight heavily on my mind when I tried to play this game and kinda soured how I saw the companies attempt at trans inclusivity. I do understand this isn't the Starfield's developers fault but...yknow.
Anyway, onto the review.
I honestly could not get into this game. At all.
Which is surprising to me - I will admit, I'm a huge Bethesda fan, and I love space games. I was foolishly hoping this game will hold me over for when the next Mass Effect comes out. But nothing in this game gravities to me at all. The gameplay loop is the same old crap you find in any other Bethesda game (but less interesting this time around), exploration was made more apparent how truly boring it is when you have a galaxy worth of planets of endless gray sprawled before you. No characters to hook you in and menus are too cumbersome and confusing to navigate that I rather try to figure out how electricity works in Fallout 4 again.
Speaking of which, that's what more disappointing about this game. I've seen people say this is just a reskinned Fallout 4, but at least I have fun playing Fallout 4! Every time I booted up this game, I just think to myself, "Man, I rather be playing Fallout right now," and thats exactly what I did!
I hope even with the success of this game, Bethesda takes the time and reevaluate their approach to RPG development for their future games sake. With other RPGS releasing now, it's no doubt Bethesda will be left in the dust with a dwindling fanbase. In any case, at least I got a stupid $80 dollar controller to celebrate this games release.
Yiiiippie.
