This game is interesting to me because as someone who never grew up with the SNES games or someone that never really had a particular care about the 2-D platformer, yet this game for some reason clicked with me, like this is one of those games that despite me having a few complaints, I would play over and over again, so for this review I am going over the base game and the other chapters individually.

Shovel knight: shovel is hope is by all accounts one of the most satisfying experience to have with a game, from the music being Iconic and catchy, to the bosses being just interesting and unique, nothing in this game felt repetitive like each stage is as different as they are from the rest, the best way to describe why it is so good is the gameplay, the shovel mechanic feels so great to use, especially on the tougher areas, with the platforming being a mixture of fun, but not too easy with spikes and insant falls, honestly this game has so much going for it that I would love to see more of it, easy recommendation.

Spectre knight: Spectre of Torment is pretty decent as a Shovel knight spin-off.

Plague knight: Plague of shadows, another good one that has a great if frustrating gameplay mechanic.

King knight: The best one stuck with an annoying gimmick.

Overall: this game is very excellent and is the most fun I had with a 2-D platformer in a while, pick it up, it is really damn good.

Compared to the first one, this game is what I think the definition of Gameplay, I believe this game is up there with Portal 2, Shadow of war and Arkham city as perfect sequels, it has more weapons that are extremely satisfying, it has more worlds to explore and it has unique enemy encounters that makes this a worthy sequel to the kickass nature that was Doom 2016, along with making improvements on problems I had with the original like a better ending, better final boss (the ICON OF SIN is peak.) and better platforming with it being more interesting than the first.

However, despite it being very good, there are two problems that holds it back, the first problem is that some enemy encounter should feel epic or feel like they should be more significant like the Doom hunter or Marauder, they are built up with threat and intensity, then gets widdle down to basic enemy, it feels like miss potential, the last problem is that I am not a fan of the third person cutscenes, I prefer first person because I prefer not seeing the doom guy and rather seeing how he interacts through me, with other times making me feel awkward or taken out of the moment.

Overall, out of the two Doom game, I think this one is the superior one, I love eternal and I would kill to see a sequel or more content for the DOOM slayer.

This game is Good.
To clarify I played both this and eternal back to back, to figure out, which is better and now I have come to a conclusion.
While I love Doom 2016 in every aspects comparing it to its sequel, its obvious which one is better, I love this game's combats, atmosphere and attitude, like it does not care about exposition it gets you straight into the action.

Reasons why I think it falls short is on two things, one I am not a fan of the platforming in this game, its not offensively bad, but its just lacking in any fun and can stop the game's fast paced action, still appreciate it just can be annoying, the last problem is the ending, the boss fight became piss easy and felt more like a standard enemy fight than it did an actual final boss, with the ending kind of feeling weird and a little less satisfying, honestly though despite those flaws I still love this game, but not as much as its sequel.
