Games I Dropped at The Final Boss/Level
When youre nearing the end of a game youre usually at the climax, after all you've learned and done you're just one obstacle away from completing the experience. Surely, it would be odd to stop now right? Well, not always the case. Theres a few reasons, one is when the final boss is such a major difficulty spike compared to the rest of the game that I just get frustrated and quit. The second is that for me at least, a lot of games are too long and outstay their welcome, so Im already running out of steam when I near the conclusion, and hitting me with a major roadblock which is unenjoyable makes me liable to drop it, a few experiences have made me immune to the sunk cost fallacy in entertainment.

@Snigglegros Yeah its kind of baffling how hard they made him. I was also trying to hijack the helicopter cause thats a really OP ability. Congrats on beating him somehow lol
somehow got lucky enough that the turrets didnt want to shoot me down for no discernible reason
I beat Exo One but almost didn’t due to that same level. Sucks
For the longest time it was FFVII for me. The final boss has some moves that take ages to animate and my party wasn't super strong so the fight was going on forever and I just couldn't be bothered to finish it....
If I drop a game, it tends to be way before reaching the final boss, but after diying multiple times at the Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap final dragon, I just decided to give up. Maybe someday I'll come back and finish it, but honestly, I was not having a good time with the game and don't remember it very fondly, so who knows
I was sooo close to dropping Ys I (Chronicles+ PC version, whose higher framerate apparently contributes to the difficulty for the final boss) and after trying for hours switched from mouse+keyboard to gamepad and beat him on the second try -_-
I generally had no issue with the Mario Odyssey final boss at all, but I did drop Live A Live before achieving the true good ending because the means to grind up every character to prepare for it was too exhausting and story bereft.
With Tunic I technically did beat the final boss but put the game on perpetual hold bc of the Fairy quest.

Im glad this has sparked a discussion!
@Conman yeah that level does suck, but maybe Ill go back and finish it at some point
@FallenGrace Understandable, I feel like this is a common issue with a lot of turn based rpgs of having very long, but not necessarily all that hard bosses.
@DeemonAndGames Yeah fair enough, I usually drop em way before too
@Casey_ ADHD is a double edged sword. Whilst Im more likely to get annoyed and drop a game, Ill also just completely forget about it soon after
@Penumbra Lmaooo. Pc Ports man, that sort of nonsense has happened a lot with these types of games
@SunlitSonata I havent played those but I feel like Im seeing the pattern in most peoples choices here being RPGs lol.

@LordDarias
Tunic is more Zelda crossbred with Souls game than RPG, but I still recommend the game despite that true ending issue.
Other RPGs waver on this for me. I was able to finish Persona 5 Royal in only three weeks due to a lot of free time and how generally smooth and easy going it’s mechanics were. Xenosaga Episode II I REALLY had to push through considering the dragged out battle system of that game despite being less than a quarter as long, but I did come out the other side to really like the third one. Meanwhile Project X Zone was just too too much and I couldn’t bear finishing it, and Dream Drop Distance is the only Kingdom Hearts mainline game on home console I never finished bc of so much not wanting the pet simulator stuff for upgrades.

Oh man I do this all the time, one of my favorite moves. JRPG final boss inexplicably 15 levels higher than everything else in his dungeon? Out of continues on the marathon last level of a platformer? Logged as status: "Quit, Watched the Ending on YouTube"
@DJSCheddar I kneel, sir
