didnt expect a puzzle game to make me tear up a little

i never in my life expected this game to be a top 3 game for 2023 but here we are

steel wool meant to impress with this one, the animations are stellar, there are very little unoriginal minigames unlike the first one and even the ones that are supposed to be based off of previous games are insanely different and stuffed with new mechanics that makes it so much more fun and interesting

the game looks phenomenal compared the first one with infinitely better lighting and modeling work, it was incredibly easy to get immersed with how great the atmosphere is.

my only major gripe is one that applies many, if not all fnaf games, the story is confusing

i didnt beat every minigame yet but i got to the first credits sequence and was left really confused by the cutscene that played before it. the game obviously has a lot of ties to RUIN but it makes it very unclear as to how.

i have a lot of nitpicks as well but they are in a really small amount so it doesnt mean all that much to me

help wanted 1 was my favorite in the entire series so seeing this blow the old one out of the water in almost every way possible leaves me incredibly hopeful for the future of the steel wool fnaf era

its very clear its in early access rn so it doesnt have the most content or a very differing gameplay loop

but DAMNIT if this isnt some of the most fun ive had playing a multiplayer game with friends

my old review is no longer accurate

game is still great by my god thinking more on this game made me realize how borderline unfinished it is

im mostly talking about the latter half but even early on there is a lot of problems with the story and the entire game on launch was filled with bugs and glitches.

gameplay still is great but man i wish i liked more about the story and characters than how i actually ended up

why is nintendo all of a sudden consistently putting out insanely good titles im not used to this

visually incredible and full of brainstorm-worthy puzzles near the end and fun bosses

main problem is the length and some of the difficulty in fights and puzzles being a bit easy at times

this is what most people thought frontiers was gonna be like when the gameplay first got shown off but its actually a reality

final boss was pretty cool tho and the music carried pretty hard

the blueprint for PLA and SCARVI and everything it got wrong is literally because its stuck in swsh

great if it wasnt for the pacing and faults of the 3ds era for pokemon

still a giant step up compared to x and y

fun game, shouldve been delayed a year or two tho

ea deserves to rot in hell for how hard they hoe'd this series

go back to my portal 1 review it also applies with this but with totk

yeah its ok

suffers from a lot of what held back base game like the graphics and performance issues and some bugs here and there, not as bad as launch scarvi per se but its still a sore spot when compared to other switch titles

however it also lacks in other areas where base game doesnt, i thought the story had potential in some areas and had interesting moments (ogerpon's backstory to be specific) but overall it felt a little generic. and i wouldnt be this critical if this was on ANY other pokemon game but base scarvi had such an improvement in the story department that it made this look even worse. while the story is better than stuff like swsh's or x and y's, its not saying much when those games barely even had one.

the highlight of the dlc was pretty much everything that made scarvi's gameplay and open world setting fun but it does do some original things that i thought were done well

the new multiplayer mode is a fun time, only downside is the horrendous performance and frame drops during it but its a good time overall

the new legendary ogerpon i thought was a great addition, had a great battle sequence, and is honestly probably my favorite grass legendary ever. genuinely could be my favorite part of the dlc overall i loved what they did with it.

perrin's side mission was a decent time although was incredibly short, the callbacks and references to legends arceus was a treat and the final boss was also a highlight of it too. but again, it really suffers from hardly even existing in the game from how short it is.

and lastly, i like that the two parts of the dlc have clear connections already, they are already mentioning stuff like the blueberry academy and whatnot. this may seem like a "no shit" decision for them but it was not something they did for swsh's two dlc parts. they hardly even mattered to each other when you really think about it.

overall the dlc is a fine enough time, better than isle of armor and is just a better first part in almost every way possible. but it mainly succeeded in making me want the second part even more, just like isle of armor did.

one of the best indies ive ever played tbh
