This game did not need to go as hard as it did GODDAMN.

You know what? imma say it. I think this is my favourite racing game.

better than any mario kart or crash team racing or what have you. This is the best, for so many reasons.

I don't even know where to start to be honest.

The gameplay is fantastic, you can really feel the differences between characters which really let's you have a character that's specific to your playstyle or if you wanna play as a different character that has a different playstyle then you can unlock mods for them that change different aspects so you can really finetune the type of control that YOU want from your car.

The transforming mechanic is pulled off to perfection in this game. I know people say this game copied Mario Kart 7 with the land,sea,air mechanic but this game pulls it off so much better. in MK7 as well as MK8 those sections are only brief and they all control basically the same with them having no real impact on the race. BUT IN THIS!/ OOOWEEEEE transforming is so much fun because each version handles so differently and can be used so goddamn strategically thanks to the level desgin.

speaking of which, the track design is... perfection. YEAH I SAID IT! PERFECTION!

Every track is so goddamn creative and compliments the transforming mechanic so wellllllll also nearly every track changes as the race goes on. like a track will start on land for the 1st lap but then when you go into the second lap something will happen and the track will become submerged in water so it becomes a boat race and then in the 3rd lap the road will get fuckin blown up or some shit so you gotta take to the skies to finish the race, or the first half of a track is all boats and then half-way through it swaps to cars for a bit and then swaps back to boats again or OH OH there's the battleship map where you drive off a battleship in a car, sail alongside them in boats and then fly up into the skies in your jet and then fly back onto the battleship turning back into a car to complete the lap and ughhhh it's all so goddamn goooood.


The character selection is insane, especially if you're playing on PC, obviously you've got your classic Sonic and Sega characters like Sonic, Tails, Shadow as well as people like Aiai, samba de amigo, billy hatcher BUT YOU ALSO HAVE SOME OF THE MOST INSANE CHARACTER SELECTION SHIT IN A RACING GAME, like you have formula one driver Danica Patrick, the spy/scout/heavy from Team Fortress 2, a character that is literally a dreamcast controller that transforms into the car from Daytona and the Jet from Ace Combat and don't forget fucking Wreck-It Ralph and the Yogscast just to name a few lmao, it's so goddamn weird and makes for one of the most bizarre character and amazing character selections in any racing game.

You get all these characters from doing world tour mode, which is a series of races and challenges that you go through, the higher the difficulty you complete them on the more stars you get and the more stars you get then the quicker you can unlock all the characters. the races themselves are pretty basic normal races but because so much of this game is goddamn perfect you're gonna wanna keep playing the races. The challenges are also surprisingly fun and can also get fairly difficult, there's drift challenges where you have to drift around a track as much as you can before time runs out, also the track is filled with traffic and if you hit a car then you lose time, there's battle races where you have 3 lives and have to try and hit all your opponents with items before they hit you, there's a challenge where you literally chase down a fucking tank and shoot it with missiles and a lot more.

Also the soundtrack is just... nut worthy. All the tracks have remixed versions of the songs that played in their og games and practically all of them slap so goddamn hard it just makes races that much more enjoyable.


now for the very few nitpicks i have with this game.

I wish the announcer would shut the fuck up lol, everytime you hit someone or do a trick he's there like YOU HIT SONIC! TRIPLE BACKFLIP! ITEM INCOMING! and it gets fairly annoying when you're trying to concentrate.

and as much as I love almost all the tracks in this game and seeing so much other Sega representation, i'm not gonna lie, they kinda did my boy sonic dirty. there's a total of maybe 3 tracks i'm not that big a fan of in this game and all 3 are sonic tracks. I think they put a lot more time and effort into everything that wasn't Sonic related which again I am all for but come onnn, but a little more effort into Sonic and co. another example being how goddamn creative everyone in the games cars are, each character as an amazingly unique vehicle that feels tailor made to them and their series, whereas all the sonic characters have the most basic rides, like they coulda done a lot more with the Sonic stuff.


Anyway this game is amazing, you can unlock everything in the game in about 7-8 hours but even after that you'll wanna keep playing and on the PC all the servers are still up so definitely head online. Just wish my friends would actually play this game with me instead of playing 7 days to die for 2 weeks straight......
