Favorite horror games ranked

My favorite horror games ranked. Just my favorites because I've played way too many horror games and this list would be way too long with all of them, also I can't remember them all, I'm sorry.
I will update this list whenever a game is worthy to be on this list

Alien: Isolation
Alien: Isolation
best horror game in my opinion. I love the "Alien" movie and this game is everything I dreamed of. Finally the Xenomorph feels like a threat. I mean the game never got a sequel because it's too scary for some people, I don't think I need to say more.

Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams
Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams
still a masterpiece in storytelling and atmospheric environment.

Little Nightmares
Little Nightmares
The developers have done an absolutely outstanding job at making the game look so beautiful yet so terrifying. I love the fact of being a small being using the giant surroundings and objects around me to get to places and the lore is just absolutly amazing. I really adore it.

Little Nightmares II
Little Nightmares II
Continues what made the first game great and improves on it in every way. The ending...holy shit...!

4

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
The game which saved the Resi Franchise and my favourite of the series. Love almost everthing about it, the antagonists like Jack, Lucas and Marguerite are memorable, the atmosphere is tense and VR is scary as hell. Didn't really liked the ship part but still a masterpiece.

5

Signalis
Signalis
Signalis is a classic survival-scifi horror game like Silent Hill or Resident Evil from the PS1-era with anime like aesthetic with enough ideas to stand on it's own feets.

Detention
Detention
Never thought a point and click adventure could be this disturbing. Detention has a fantastic art design and atmosphere. I slept on this for way too long

Resident Evil
Resident Evil
I think this is the perfect remastered. The puzzle, atmosphere and sound design are great. I kind of have a love-hate relationship with the tank controls and I always get lost in the big mansion. But everything holds up really well and it's still one of the best survival horror games.

Until Dawn
Until Dawn
Absolutely adore the setting and the monsters. Both are really rare in big AAA horror games. The atmosphere on the lonely snowy mountain is insane, one of the atmospheres in horror games in recent years. The story is well written and I can't get enough of the lore about the Wendigos and the backstory of the mountain.

Sam <3 = best girl

Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 2
One of my favorite games ever. It was the second Resi Game I played after RE7 and it completely pulled me into the franchise. After playing this masterpiece I went back to play the other Resi games. I can't thank RE2R enough for making the RE series my favorite video game franchise.

10

Tormented Souls
Tormented Souls
This game is the perfect homage to the old school survival horror games. The atmosphere, creature design and the sound design are awesome. If you liked the RE 1 Remaster you will also like this.
It also was on my "Top 5 Games of 2021" list.

The Beast Inside
The Beast Inside
First time that I backed a game on kickstarter and it turned out to be such a great game. Great atmosphere and good story

12

The Forest
The Forest
Story is really underrated and the monster design is disgusting and unique. A lot of fun with friends and the atmosphere in the caves is intense

13

Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil 0
Rebecca is the cutest video game character ever. Would love to see another RE Game with her as the main character

14

Darkwood
Darkwood
The game art design, graphics and atmosphere are so amazing and the game mechanic of only seeing objects and enemies in the direction you are facing is very unique.

15

Song of Horror
Song of Horror
Song of Horror creates a terrifying experience with disturbing atmospheres and the constant threat of perma-death. And the random scares made it really unpredictable. Such a unique experience.

16

Dead Space
Dead Space
Improves the original in every way possible. If you want the definitive version to experience the first game, this is the way. Review

17

At Dead of Night
At Dead of Night
This is unlike any horror I've played, such a unique game. Generally speaking the atmosphere, especially at the beginning hours of the game, is simply phenomenal. The strict usage of horror film as "graphics" (besides some CGI) as well as the restriction to set paths through point-and-click movement sets a tone for a terrifying atmosphere that games that try to use "normal game" graphics struggle to even come close to.

18

Observer: System Redux
Observer: System Redux
Horror games with werewolves are far too rare. Love that they combined a dark cyberpunk world with a detective as the main protagonist. The game asks better questions than Cyberpunk 2077 and it's my favorite game from the cyberpunk genre.

19

Outlast
Outlast
Love the setting and atmosphere. The game is absolutely terrifying and tense. Outlast was really unique at the time it was released.

Yeah Alien Isolation at times is genuinely terrifying. Occasionally the curtain falls and it loses it slightly but that's so rare in an otherwise amazing title. Best Alien game there is.
I mean the first time I crawled into a vent I thought to myself "Naahh I'm safe inside here", what a fool I was.
