Overrated Games (In My Opinion)

There are a lot of games out there that go over my head in regards to how well received they are. This list isn't to say that these games ARE overrated, moreso that I can't understand why they get the praise they do. From games that are considered GOAT in their particular genre or overall, all the way to getting more lineage than deserved, these all range in quality since the focus is on public reception in comparison to what I think.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
As for the whole series, I cannot wrap my head around anyone who thinks of this series as one of the pinnacles of the visual novel genre. It's decent at best and horrendous at worst.

Except for Hifumi, he was and still is the best character in the series.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
No.
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
Anyone who thinks the ending of this game is genius has got standards as low as the mariana trench. Not to sound snobby but there are far better thought provoking media out there that comment on the nature of fiction than this garbage. I have a feeling you won't have to look far since the execution of this game's ending is laughable.
Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls
Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls
Not hated enough.
Pokémon Violet
Pokémon Violet
I've done an entire review on this game summarising why I think it's overrated.

This placement can represent the entire Pokemon franchise. This series has been given way too much leeway as of recent.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Why the fuck has this game got a 3.9 on this website? It's riddled with fanservice, the story has massive problems, the VA direction is hilariously bad, the gameplay puts me to sleep, gacha mechanics galore and Tora exists.

The only saving graces are Captain Padraig, Bana, the music and some of it's concepts. The first game in this Xenoblade series, and even the third one to an extent, blow this out of the water.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Same thing with Xenoblade 2. Although not as atrocious as that game, with the story in the base game and DLC having some excellent bits and pieces, still suffers from a lot of issues that I feel go right over people's heads.

The worldbuilding in particular. I find a lot of it's concept too out there or lacking any explanation. For instance why do they use flutes to send husks away? How and why did the Mobius appear to begin with? There are so many moments where the game asks me to suspend my disbelief or simply accept something as it is, to the point where it feels like they are pulling things out of a hat.
The Last of Us
The Last of Us
Understandably groundbreaking at the time, I still don't think Last of Us is anything new outside of the cinematic story experience.

The gameplay feels like things we've seen before which isn't a bad thing but it's a contributing factor as to why I don't really see this as one of the all time classics. I mostly just see it as a solid experience.
The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us Part II
Is it overhated? Absolutely.

Did it deserve 7 GOTY awards? Fuck no.
Among Us
Among Us
Can understand why it's popular. I just don't like the fact it is.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Broken ass game.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The cast, the music, the stages, the hype, the accomplishments: this game was a fantastic achievement and Sakurai has my every respect.

That said, dear Watch Mojo: do you really think this is one of the top 20 games of all time? The online was abysmal on release and still suffers from a lot of problems, world of light was a mistake and a majority of the DLC characters are rather lukewarm or abysmally designed.
