The Legend of Zelda Ranked by Someone Who Isn't That Big of a Zelda Fan Anymore

The Legend of Zelda as a franchise has remained one of my favorite things for a long time, but as the years pass and the world ages, I also age too, and while I don't have the same connection to the franchise anymore as I once did, it still has a lot to like about it, but really not much else.

Comfortably the best game in the series and just one of the greatest games ever made alongside the fact that there is nothing that will take that sentiment away from the game for me. It has such a unique take on how video games can be presented as a form of storytelling and just a very sublime game + playing this during a very depressing time in my life made it a lot better. Also fuck you if you dislike the time limit, it’s absolutely genius and just works so well with the message of the game’s story.
The first to ever do it. It is honestly really hard to make any arguments against Ocarina of Time as a leading example for video games at their absolute peak, and aside from having some really poorly-aged mechanics as well as a not very exciting story, there is a lot to love about it alongside the foundation it settled for action adventure video games.
It's surprising with how much they could do with this game for its time, and with other successful 2D games at the time like Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Final Fantasy VI, and Dragon Quest, there was a lot of competition back then. Otherwise, it just doesn't scratch the same itch that Majora's Mask could do, but that's all I have to say.
Probably the best game in the series in terms of art style, and I will never understand the hate for its exploration. Very cozy game, even with some wonky level design choices, and man, that soundtrack is actually so soothing. Otherwise, definitely my other favorite 6th generation Zelda game.
I have a decent bias towards this game because it was my favorite game of all time since launch for nearly 5 years, but I never truly took its flaws into accountability till I got older when the magic of its open world had wore off for me. I strongly believe the narrative is underrated and it has a solid story regarding tragedy which Tears of the Kingdom completely disregards, and aside from being my comfort game, I just don’t think it’s anything that special anymore, and there’s a decent amount of other open world games which I would rather play instead.
Aesthetically my favorite Zelda game and it’s just not close in that regard. I really like the wolf link aspect of the game, and it also has my favorite combat system in the franchise, but oh my god, the linearity sometimes is just terrible and really brings the game down for me on those ends.
Solid game for such a small console, and it is really fascinating to see how they pulled it off. But, otherwise, I could care less about it aside from it just being strongly consistent, with nothing crazy or outright bad to say about it.
To say I wasn't excited for this game like my life depended on it would be an understatement. While I absolutely enjoyed the hell out of it around its release, as well as it being my favorite game for quite a few months, it dropped really quickly after I did a reflection on it. I mean, after 500 hours of recorded playtime, you would've expected me to notice its flaws a lot sooner, but that simply just wasn't the case, particularly due to how high I was on the entire Zelda franchise just last year. From the very poor narrative to the badly designed temples and all the way to the bloat of the Depths, there are quite a lot of problems that I could list, but despite all that, there's still some stuff to like about it, especially when it has the most mechanically impressive fight in the entire series, specifically the Demon King Ganondorf boss fight. Otherwise, there just isn't anything else that can be said about it.
I mean, it's a solid start to the franchise, but there really isn't anything to discuss about it.
One of the most disgraceful and absolutely evil remakes I've ever come across, and the way they made the original game much easier to appeal to an audience of people who can't stand it when video games aren't always fun really bugs me. And don't say that the now obvious criticisms are just small nitpicks, because a lot of them still play a heavy role on what to do and what to not do when remaking a game.

Thank fuck for the restoration patch, kudos to the team behind it.
