Moments that remind me why I love video games

Whether they be emotional, heartwarming, exhilarating, satisfying, or just straight up cool, these are the moments that prove to me why I love the medium of video games and what they mean to me.

Alan Wake II
Alan Wake II
Herald of Darkness- Telling a character's backstory through song with some really cool visuals and moving gameplay pieces is an idea of pure genius. It's really a testament to how great visuals and music can be in a game.
Rhythm Heaven Fever
Rhythm Heaven Fever
Air Rally- The image of two best friends playing a game of keep-it-up while flying airplanes, all while passing over some beautiful views and set to one of the happiest songs in a game is something that could only be done in a video game.
Deathloop
Deathloop
The Final Loop- The moment when you realize how you need to kill every one of the visionaries in one loop and when you finally put your plans into action and pull it all off, to put it simply, is one of the most satisfying and rewarding moments in a game that I've experienced.
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Donkey Kong Country Returns
The Final Cutscene- Part of the charm of Donkey Kong and his games has always been his really animated and expressive character, but I was never expecting him to straight up punch the moon out of the sky! That shit was cool, I don't care who you ask.
Katamari Damacy
Katamari Damacy
The Final Level- Oh shit this ball's getting pretty big, I just rolled up the whole city. Oh shit this ball's getting Really big, I just rolled up the whole island! OH SHIT THIS BALL'S GETTING REALLY BIG, I JUST ROLLED UP THE WHOLE CONTINTENT! (and so on and so forth)
God of War
God of War
The Dragon Fight- Kratos (and Boy helped too I guess) laying the smack down on a dragon 100 times his size in a really epic boss fight will never cease to be impressive to me. He truly is the god of war.
Pizza Tower
Pizza Tower
Any and All Escape Sections- If you thought the platforming in this game couldn't get any more exhilarating you'd be wrong the second you ran into that big purple pillar. Running for your life back through a stage as it crumbles with enemies spawning left and right and a banging track playing and getting louder and faster makes these segments of the game's levels a fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping blast to play through.
Hades
Hades
The Final Battle Against Hades- Making it to the surface for the first time and being met with Hades himself standing in the way was a huge surprise to me, and the final boss fight that followed it being a really intense and epic boss fight made it all the much better. Compile onto that all the emotional weight the character's must've been feeling, and the great satisfaction of finally beating Hades and achieving your goal of making it to the surface and you get a video game moment I will not soon forget.
Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village
The Encounter With Goop Baby- I already felt uneasy going into the basement of this secluded house up in the mountains, but when my weapons are taken away and I'm met with a huge, blood-soaked baby that wants to devour me whole, that's when I'm officially done. I literally froze in fear at this part of the game and any horror game that can achieve that is a damn good one in my books.
It Takes Two
It Takes Two
Squirrel Fighting Game- So basically, the game turns into a fighting game for a moment where you fight against a squirrel on the wing of a plane, and to put it simply, it's peak.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2
The Braithwaite Manor Shootout- Everything about this scene was badass and immersive, the walk up to the manor specifically just felt so raw and filled with righteous fury, and the shootout and aftermath of the whole thing just sold things further.

The Housebuilding Mission- And yet despite being a game about outlaws, RDR2 knows when to slow down and just have fun and wholesome moments like this, the brotherhood felt by these three characters just building a house together, set to a really catchy and comforting song, and followed up by a wholesome scene of them drinking together to their accomplishments is all a real testament to this game's storytelling and the range of emotions it got out of me.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
The Ancient Cistern- This is quite literally, the perfect 3D Zelda Dungeon to me. The really great imagery that represents Heaven and Hell through it's multiple floors, the way you have to move the huge statue, the really fun item in the whip, and the incredible boss fight against Koloktos, all adds up to an absolutely incredible gaming experience.
Sonic Generations
Sonic Generations
City Escape Act 2 and Rooftop Run Act 2- Really any of the Act 2's in this game are great, but these levels specifically are what I think are the peak of what 3D Sonic can be, providing a sense of pure speed and fun that just feels so good, if all 3D Sonic was like this it would be perfect.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Starship Mario- I could honestly go with any of the incredibly designed stages in this game and it would seem like a valid answer, but I think the most fitting expereince to say why I love this game and as an extension, video games as a whole so much can be seen right here in the game's hubworld Starship Mario. It's just a really serene and joyful place, all the inhabatants that join you throughout your journey in this game are just there chilling out nd having a good time, there's birds flying around (somehow they're breathing in space) and a beautiful and comforting song playing over it all. Spending time just messing around on Starship Mario never feels wasted, it feels like exactly what I play video games for, the ability to escape from reality for a little bit into a place of pure joy and fun where nothing bad can happen.

Hades was a game I finished recently but it still plagues my brain. I loved my journey and appreciated for once being a bad video gamer.

@tanman yeah it was the same way when I first beat it, its progression is so good in that it makes you feel like you're actually improving and when you finally win it feels incredible, like you did that.

@VSLazer I agree, when I finished that final battle, I felt an immense satisfaction of playing and finishing the game (and the post game content looks like so much fun with incredible challenges). I knew that I was better as a player and Zag became stronger through all the upgrades. I love this game and am excited for the sequel.
