I've started playing through this game every year around the winter and I'm just convinced it's one of all time favorites. Such a simple game but I'm a sucker for the aesthetics and gameplay. Love doing loops and seeing how high of a score I can get and Nights is such a cool character design. Music is probably one of my favorite gaming soundtracks also. Simply no other game that fits it's vibe.

I've played through the pc port a number of times but if you're interested there is a 60fps mod and an input improvement mod for the steam version that fixes the deadzones that make it more in line with the Saturn version. It made my recent playthrough more enjoyable this year. Really a game changer.

a near perfect adaptation of my favorite board game. i will hold back from a 5 star rating until they release the expansions. but i am surprised as to how well this one works in digital

I normally don't write extensive serious reviews on backloggd but Dread is special. Dread is a direct sequel to my first metroid game, Super is one of my favorite game of all times and Metroid 5 itself is one of my most anticipated games of all time. To say this game delivered is an understatement cause it blew all my expectations out of the water. I had the biggest grin on my face when this game got revealed and the biggest grin playing through this entire game. Metroid dread ultimately delivers on all my expectations and then some. Immaculate control, great level design and all the things I loved about fusion and Super. It's a game that I just want to play because it feels good to play and even weeks later I'm still playing it again and again with the same obsession I have playing super. Mercury Steam hit it out of the park with this one and I'll be playing this game for years to come. Until the next core 2d metroid to comes out, See you next mission.

Rivals is interesting to me, I first tried to play it a year ago, but for some reason it just couldn't click with me. The movement, hitstun, none of it clicked with me. I wasn't fond of any of the base roster, though I did like Ori and Shovel Knight, So I dropped it, I had been filtered, so to say.

But then I saw the Gigachad workshop mod character get announced, and realized, yeah, nah, I HAVE to come back, at least to try this. So I booted the game up with a friend, and against all odds, everything started to click with me. The movement finally started to make sense, and feel fluid and fun, the hit stun started to click and I was able to pull off combos more effectively, I noticed the music on the pre-set stages was really good, and everything finally started to fall in place.

Then I started messing with the workshop, and started finding inspired movesets for characters I loved. Multiple Sonic movesets better than what I got in Smash, an improved Kirby, the rest of the Sonic cast, several Touhou characters I really enjoyed using, cool movesets for other characters I liked, well made stages, and all the funny meme characters in the world.

If anything, this game is my sanctuary by now. I've been consistently burnt by Smash after the initial honeymoon of its release, but I've found just about everything I could want in this game, and its been a blast playing with my friends. This is genuinely the most fun I've had with a platform fighter ever, I think.
