One of the most elaborate among the character mods of Super Mario 64. Sonic controls mostly like you would expect (but slides a bit too much). The problem is that the stages weren't made to go well with speed, so falling down happens all the time, specially on the most jumping accuracy demanding stages.
Underwater gameplay and camera also don't work well.
After all, it could be better, but it was a lot of fun for the most part.

Horrible, terrible, awful controls. Don't play this version unless you want to feel cheated.

This is the best NES version of the game. If you want to play a NES version, play this one. It has actually good controls.

This little thing is awesome to have when you have nothing. There are many different Tetris modes, and was the first time I got to know games like Tetris, Pong, Battle City, etc.
It is bad, but it is also good.

YOU NEED TO PLAY THIS GAME.
As far as fan games go, this may be the best fan game I've played so far. It is not perfect, but the amount of work put into it makes every problem seem like oddities of an awesome project that is way too good to be true.

I gave this one a better shot now, and it is a very cool game. Nothing incredible, but I liked the level design and overall world characterization, being a fan of Donald comics and the lore of Duckburg.
The soundtrack is very weak and the sound design leaves to be desired, but I would recommend this one for a quick good enough time. Also, the high point for me are the side-scrolling stages.

Please, Nintendo, make a Donkey Kong Land with current DKC graphics and controls.
This game is very difficult, but most of times it's just because of its controls, they are terrible.
It is very impressive stuff for a console which couldn't handle not even NES graphics, and the soundtrack is actually interesting.
Some of the stages are very good and interesting, but many of them demand leaps of faith or surprise you with an enemy out of nowhere, mostly because of the screen crunch.
I'd like to play these stages and themes with good controls, though.

Still playing it, but the World-e stages are very hard.

The Japanese version is way too hard for me. The points are for the looks and the awesome soundtrack.

I have to say that this mod is actually very fun to play around.
The Portal gun mechanic leads to different ways to traverse some stages and get items and Stars.
But there are some issues: it's kind of bothersome to have to keep transitioning to the first person camera and having no indication of which Portal you're shooting; the game is very glitchy because it wasn't supposed to work this way, and sometimes you can fall through the ground to the depths of the underworld.
Overall, I'd recommend this one for someone who already played the original game and wants a somewhat new experience for a fun spin.

Pros: the Portal mechanic gives new possibilities
A very fun new take on the original experience

Cons: glitches. Lots of them.

I'd like to praise this one for being an impressive character mod, but it is just too buggy. The "catch" mechanic works on almost anything and everything has mostly the same behavior when you do it, making it feel just like mere joke ("oh, look, I'm a butterfly jumping around", "now I became a door and went floating away"). The moves, though, are interesting and can actually be use to play the game in a different manner.
Overall, a different experience and fun for some time, until you've already used the Cappy on everything and gets tired of seeing the same joke everywhere.

Pros: laughable for some time
New moves for Mario
Catching coins with Cappy

Cons: Glitchy
Buggy
Still Super Mario 64

The premise of this mod is very unique, and it's even more interesting when you that the Ocarina of Time modding scene isn't so popular as the one for Super Mario 64. Having Fox as a playable character doesn't make any sense in here, actually, and it could still be Link and wouldn't affect gameplay at all.

Despite the strange choice the rogue-lite mechanic is very unique and interesting, but it may cause some difficulty problems that happen because of the random position of the enemies. It is also very repetitive, since you only stay in the same place day after day, defeating some similar enemies many times.
Another issue that gets on my nerves is that you come back with only three hearts when you die, making the second attempt way too difficult, since hearts drop very seldomly from enemies.
Summing it all up, interesting concept, with a good enough execution, but with some major flaws that could have been worked on before release.

Pros: interesting concept
Innovative for the modding scene
Fox uses a light saber for the first time

Cons: design issues
Difficulty spikes
Few options for restoring health
Repetitiveness

Super Mario Sunshine: Definitive Edition

Even though it has some bugs (audio/video/continuation issues), it is the best Super Mario Sunshine experience so far, making the game way more enjoyable to play, when it was kind of a hog to deal with in the first place. But there's a downside: it's still Super Mario Sunshine, with the bad physics, level design and unfair difficulty in the places where it had before, but these problems aren't brought by the mod.
I'd recommend this one over the original anytime, and will probably use this mod to finish when I decide to do it, someday.

Pros: Stages are open from the beginning (mostly)
Skippable cutscenes
No boot-out after getting Shines

Cons: bad mechanics because of it being Super Mario Sunshine

This game is horrible. The controls are terrible, the graphics look weird, no thought was put into its design, the enemies take too long to die Kao's moves are useless.

It is one of those that you want to avoid at all costs.

Although it has some bugs, it is just awesome to be able to destroy most things in the game with a Falcon Punch and fly through the stages with a Falcon Kick. This hack is a must for the people that love Super Mario 64 and want a new playthrough with a funny twist. One of the best "character mods" for the game.
