SO my story with this game is a lil different... i played through most of it and was pretty much near the end at 80-90ish hours, was enjoying it a lot despite the flaws (bad 'story', forgettable characters, performance issues). in fact, i was sure i was gonna give it 4 stars even with the negatives just bc i loved playing it so much.

HOWEVER!!!! i made the fatal mistake of starting honkai star rail before finishing smt v.... and so smt v was left to collect dust for weeks... and then, when i came back, i found that i wasn't enjoying the game as much as i used to? before hsr, i wanted to collect all the miiman, treasures, glory crystals etc and fuse as many demons as i could before finishing the game, and i was still excited to do the sidequests. after, though, i found myself kind of just wanting to finish smt v ASAP and finding the side stuff repetitive af with it always just ending with me fighting a tanky boss with the same demons... it became tedious rather than fun.

i feel like i most likely wouldn't have felt this way if i'd just finished smt v instead of leaving it for so long when i was at the end, but i cannot turn back time and i honestly feel like i'm just forcing myself to play through the game for the sake of finishing it rn. thus, it is shelved, but i will return to it someday OR just restart with vengeance!! i usually have this drive to finish games, especially when i'm so close to the end, but that's usually because the story makes me want to see it through and find closure. however, i couldn't care less about smt v's story tbh. like, at some point midgame, whenever a story cutscene would happen while i was playing, i'd actually feel annoyed that it was interrupting my fun lmao. because i had no faith or interest in the plot or characters at that point!!

anyway, pros: cool animations for the demons that give them some more personality, fun exploration (when it wasn't frustrating), fun gameplay for most of the game, a sense of challenge regardless of how OP i thought i was, AMAZING music

cons: lag and horrible framerate (which almost NEVER bothers me in games but it did here), unfinished story and whatever characters that i stopped caring about quickly, a couple side quests that felt like they should've been part of the main story??, areas felt barren and not different enough from each other for the most part

i believed the hype and this game did NOT disappoint!!!

the writing and characters were so fun and interesting, and the gameplay was so satisfying. i'm already looking forward to another playthrough where i'll choose different choices. also i love kim katsuragi. i didnt get to do everything i could with him but ONE DAY I SHALL!!!

only real complaints i have are minor: sometimes the text is A Lot (even if voiced) and i have to skim read to not burn out on it, and it wasn't always 100% clear to me where i could and couldnt move around in tighter areas.

other than that, VERY solid game would recommend!!

this game... i loved it. these characters... i love them...

there was so much fixed and improved from yakuza 3, like the combat and chase/flee scenes!! also some of the substories were so fuckin good. i did ALL of them (except amon bc lol) was LIVING for the campy moments. i laughed, i cried, i covered my mouth in shock... this game has it all

i love this lil foursome tbh im SO endeared by them... more!!! pls!!! the revelations were also amazing

THAT BEING SAID!!! the entire prison break sequence with saejima, fighting saito as saejima and kiryu, and some of the if-7 battles (fuckign SUGIUCHI) were the most frustrated ive EVER been with yakuza games. so i am not looking forward to replaying those sequences when i play the game again...

also i wouldve loved to see saito really get whats coming to him... hes a pos in game AND Horrible to fight in combat. there is no one i have wanted to see suffer more in yakuza. and that's saying something!!

anyway saejima sweeps and i hope hana eats well and learns to love herself for how she looks and yes P.S. THE MUSIC THAT PLAYS WHEN FIGHTING DAIGO ALMOST MADE ME CRY

first half was very cool. second half wtf. also the difficulty spikes. ending credits music is a bop

i cried a lot. akechi and maruki you will always be famous. akeshu canon. poor sumi but also her potential was not fully recognized. almost everything was better than the original but the new ending didnt hit as hard... in fact it was kinda weird

disappointed by this one tbh... the gameplay was fun, but the story went downhill quickly for me. the dungeons after the 2nd one were a mess imo, except for the awesome terrifying lab one WHICH WAS TOO SHORT.

also what happened to konoe is SO fucked up and the way the PT still made him out to be the bad guy made my stomach turn tbh

i liked zestiria much more than this game

i feel like most of those hours are from the hostess minigame

this game is SO fun and all the vibrant colors and music etc was such a breath of fresh air!! it's not perfect bc some of the character designs are questionable and its a bit tropey, but MAN i didnt expect to love so many of the characters like i did!! touma, eleanora, and yashiro my beloveds...

the ending credits also made me cry omg... itsuki finally singing a wholeass song like AAAAAA... but the final boss was way too easy sadly!!

i have done golden deer and blue lions routes so far.

very fun for a long time, but then it goes on too long and i get tired and just wanna beat the game. and then it just... ends out of nowhere and thats it? ok i guess... the characters are cool!

i bought this game without doing much research and kind of wish i hadn't. however, it was fun enough! i dont really think about it after finishing it tho

this game was... weird. but not in a bad way. it just kind of felt like putting persona characters in an smt world and that was a bit strange. but i had a lot of fun UNTIL THE LAST DUNGEON. why is it like that. also toki could've been so cool and interesting but they ruined her very quickly with her randon crush on the mc. the whole asahi vs toki thing was cringe af tbh

anyway love hallelujah and gaston became very cool god bless

pretty cool game! a lil overrated imo but yeee

much better than the first game imo, and super fun! the second to last dungeon was especially fucky in the coolest way.

hikari was also pretty relatable and i cared much more about her than rei and zen
