Great Licensed Metroid-like. Probably better than the source material.
It's weirdly nostalgic, giving some 16bit atmospheric shooter vibes like Metroid, Alien 3, Jurassic Park...
The least interesting part is dying and having the Corpse[s] Run Mechanic, which is kinda forced upon players with save points not being healing points too. When you die you have to recover every item and weapon by killing your zombiefied self.

Lies of P is a great example of a "Soulslike". Probably one of the best not made by From Soft, and one of the most unique by not being medieval themed.
The game has Great graphics and ambiance (closer to Bloodborne than Dark Souls). There is an interesting weapons system, allowing huge player expression. Respecs are easily available allowing builds and other experiments.
The Healing items are replenished at the checkpoints, but there is a cool mechanic to recover the last one if you run out of healing.
The combat system is, unlike other Soulslikes, not around dodging at all.
It is an option, but the game clearly expects you to master blocking and parry/perfect blocking, specially in the first hours where you have less resources at your disposal (and getting the parry right sometimes is not as satisfying as it should be).
And the games try to throw some curveballs at souls veterans: too many bosses have multiple phases and some bosses have really erratic attacks
Also, slow, short reaching attacks feel like a lesser choice for the player.
