its great !
it cliffhangs the whole thing but it bealtifully becomes an allegory for the mind of the writer, reveals some stuff and gives me the comfies shine of light on my face i ever felt

its alright, its part 1 of the 2 dlcs containing the ending of the game, not much to say about this one.
the writer however...

remedy is now my favorite western company

its been a minute since i had the pleasure of enjoying a well crafted story accompanied of also a great gameplay, playing their games by order of launch made me see how much they grow as developers and i loved this entry.

alan wake is like a game for everyone, a entry into horror games but also something special made specifically for creators, there is a lot of in jokes, references and very deep analysis of what is a story for its creator, a metaphor for art block in a way that despite being very blockbuster heavy in its scenes, its very heartfelt.
my only problem with the game is the occasional dickyness of the combat and the traps, i can't wait to play the second game now

a very fun game with a forgettable story

let me get the bad out of the way, i had experience with tomb raider prior to this game, i just decided to start with this one because tank controls give me headache, back when this game launched a storm of internet weirdos flooded it with mysoginistic comments saying this is some sort of sjw game to portrail men and incompetent, it was a shitstorm, thankfully now that i played i can safely say that no, then men in this game aren't portrayed as evil monsters, every character is just really really dumb. events often unfold because lara or the rest of the cast really can't sit still without doing something silly to bring the next shooting section, events often happen because lara sees something happening and while characters tell her not to, her excuse is ''i just can't ok ?'' ok ok thats kind of lazy guys come on, she can't because you guys need her to go to the next exposition point, not because she is making rational decisions, and the same can be said for everyone else, all the other cast is severely unlikeable except for the cool mentor that you will see his canon event coming from a mile away, and the big guy that has a native design, i like these guys a lot, the rest is by god forgettable and at times insultingly annoying.
the cast also constantly makes dumb decisions, at some point lara got worried about glasses guy and the strong lady made sure to tell lara that ''he can take care of himself'' only for lara to find out that he in fact.. cannot take care of himself, in his words ''lara i'm sorry for dragging you out into this mess, i though i could be the star of my own god damn action movie'' now was that to make lara seem smarter or make the strong lady feel dumb because its obvious glasses bro has brain damage. for real the entire time this cast feels like a horror thriller cast in a action movie, but one of those you know director did as a money laundry scheme. back then this caused people to accuse the writers of forcing a strong woman into empowering the guys, come on thats mysoginy, this ain't forced representation, this is just characters being poorly written, i wanted to like everyone and root for their well being but the game constantly bombards you with their dumb decision and downright mean behavior towards lara. one scene that really struck this onto me, with the fact that i was just dealing with dumb character script was the scene
SPOILER :
the glasses guy death.
strong lady doesn't even mourn losses, she goes straight to nagging, for example right after the character death, she throws out a jab ''seems like everyone near you has a poor survival rate'' to which lara replies ''better keep your distance then'', keep in mind that she says that immediatelly after lara announced he died, there was no time for shock, she just went for the jab, to which the big native just replied ''LETS JUST EAT OK ??''.

awful cast aside, how's the gameplay ? Great !
there are only 4 weapons but all of them are incredibly varied in their use, the gameplay crew knew what they were doing and they did good, the fights feel fast and enjoyable, the climbing is fun and easy to get into, the levels are very open and sometimes have multiple ways to go through.
lara herself starts as just another survivor struggling with everything, its almost comical how much of a punching bag she is in this game, constantly getting thrown, cut, squashed, shot, fallen down, pierced and even impaled at times, through the entire time she barely gets any rest and it slowly loses its shock and becomes kind of funny thinking what the game will force lara into, by the end of the game she has so many scars one guy looks at her and gets scared.

overall this is a very fun game with a poor cast of characters and a forgettable story, but with very fun moments of sheer bloody disaster.
many people point out that cutscene lara and game lara have a very strong dissonance due to how much people she kills in game and how frail she acts in cutscene, i wish this game was just lara and maybe one single crew member, no one else as she does all this struggling by herself, it would solve the problem of the bad characters dumbing down the game.

god damn its peak

i played this game a few times but never actually finished, but now that i sat down to actually play it god damn what a fun little ride with some heavy themes hidden throughout it full of very fun characters and their own little struggles, almost the entire cast is memorable and the levels have their own little gimmick that, albeit sometimes annoying, offer a lot of variety and fun, its like the devs were having fun the entire time, its juvenile yet competent in its writing

2022

brilliance ruined by incompetence

at first i saw the scores and reviews and though to myself ''it can't be that bad come on'' because i was looking very foward to this game, turns out it is that bad and some more.

this game is a bealtiful and well crafted puzzle alen adventure with grotesque visuals that legit can pull you into this very atmospheric world, ABSOLUTELLY ruined later by shitty combat, don't get me wrong i am very familiar with survival horror but it legit (this is not my discovery, plenty of people point it out) shows that combat was an last minute implementation otherwise you finish the game in under 2 hours, the ass combat is there to add 1 more hour.
there is no other way to explain other than the enemies were designed to annoy you till you die, they will buggy block your path despite being made for you to get past them, turn on the aimbot and hit you, if you die you gotta deal with the awful checkpoint system that sometimes sends you 30 minutes back from where you died, making you re-do a lot of puzzles you already completed, but lets say you run past all enemies and avoid dying to cheap enemy blockage, then you finish the game in under 1 hour and a half, look i would be absolutelly fine if this game was a short but sweet experience, but its painful now, even more that there is bealty in its world, not even the ending bothers me and that one irked a lot of people.

bealtiful.

i haven't played the original, most people told me this was definitive version so i jumped the gun, wow i didn't expect this to be such a fun ride.
the weapons feel fun to shoot and customize even if limited, the worldbuilding grips you like a gorilla and chokeholds you through the entire playthrough, they simply don't let go, they do everything in their power to give you the feeling of a poor soviet in the middle of an apocalipse. i bough the damn book after this.
the only thing that keeps it as a 9 instead of a 10 is the librarians and the fact they didn't give me more of hunter, but hey i loved miller just as much. the soundtrack barely creeps in but when it does it gives such a vibe.
this also is a great example of bad ending good ending done right, its the right balance of good deeds to let you experience it without making you do stuff that would make the game boring like ''colect 50 hidden mcguffins'' or ''never kill a single person the entire playthrough'' keep in mind i haven't done a single stealth section, but all the good deeds i could do, i did, and i got the good endind, i only re-did the bad ending out of curiosity afterwards.
overall i super recommend, because MAN, its been a while since a game left me this satisfied.
i walked away from it feeling refreshed, not burned out

haven't finished all the optionals but the main story is over, and given how big everything is, i don't really plan on 100%.

while this is a massive improvement from the main game, the main issues still stand, those being :
-hunting for clues is silly
-a absurd downgrade of weaponry from Generations, given how the main focus is the visuals and feel of the world to attract new players
-astere is still too big for no reason other than ''LOOK HOW AWESOME THIS NEW HUB IS''
-The absurdity of grind to get mantles.
-the cryptic way of unlocking certain equipments and missions.

but speaking of the DLC itself, its much more of the same, some classics come back, the addition of guildlands is a interesting way to grind and upgrade old gear.
however i still prefer rise, simply put a more straightfoward and fun experience

time and time again i've tried finishing this game, the oh so promised perfect game, there was always a point in which i would stop, when i finished it for the first time, i though it was pretty good but with a few areas in which i had no good things to say, but upon repeated playthroughs, this game grows more and more on you until the point you can't help but feel fascinated with its universe, its style.

everything is sticked out together, its scify in name only as due to alien tech giving barely any help to their own soldiers settle properly their colony, so the enemies are stuck with using really back tech and reuse old apartments, its a mix of high tech and scrapping to survive at the same time.
its one of if not the best sequel.

with all that said, the criticism is valid, there are some really shitty areas and chapters that almost halt the enjoyment of the game.

overall i'm thankful for the combine universe this game brough within, and its quite believable due to circunstances in universe

a wonderful and bealtiful tale only held back by minor annoyances.

let me get the bad out of the way, the game gets a little repetitive even for its short lenght, now i am not one to criticize small game lenght, in fact i love when a game respects my time, but the pathless it manages to still be short yet repetitive.
another problem is that its a bit hard to tell what place is optional and what place will give you the necessary items for progress.

with that out of the way everything else is marvelous, the scenery, the music, the bealty of the artstyle, the story, its a short but sweet fairytale about a hero's journey, its not as deep as youre expecting but its so well crafted i can't help but be sweetened by its charm. huntress is now one of my fave characters.

AND YOU CAN PET THE EAGLE

given the absolute LACK of games in this setting, i came upon farcry primal with a very specific itch to be scratched, honestly it very well did scratch that itch, it could have delven even more into the setting or made even crazier mechanics, i wasn't expecting realism, but this is a farcry game through and through with my oh so beloved tribal setting.

my problems with this title is that it doesn't have much to go on but it still stretches out to 20 hours somehow, absolutelly killing the mood to keep going on.

i had more fun with this than i expected
i love me some faction based open world, so this game was right up my alley, but i was not expecting this to also be a very relaxing experience with occasional heavy fightings in between, this game has a rank system, the bigger your rank, the more equipment you unlock and eventually youre leading a 4 team squad of rank 5 robots that can shield and heal during combat, its really fun unlocking perks to control stronger robots.
the story is a bit criptic and relies a lot on old logs you gotta read, but it boils down to smart species uncover something they shouldn't, overall i think the story could use some of that criptic Iron Lung style, it tries to but the supernatural elements are very minimal, and because you play through the lens of a controlled robot, the cool camera effects are not as pushed as they should, but whats here is very solid, steam says i took 7 hours to beat it but to me it felt like 3, it flies by and its really fun and relaxing.

a total improvement !

i loved this entry, this is where remedy started their own developing style, with the little jokes and the likes, the comic panels now bem...well actually drawn panels feel great to watch.
i could say that i miss sam lake face in it but to be honest not at all, those who played know but he is always there somewhere making me company as i play with this new face payne, but for the love of god, let the remakes have sam lake.
did i felt mona levels were a stretch ? yeaah.. but to be fair the game is not too long not too short, just the right sweet lenght were i can finish it in a whole day and enjoy it fully, the mechanics got upgraded and this now feel much more gun-fu than the first one who was still a little clunkily trying to get it together. looking foward to alan wake next ! not looking foward to max payne 3, i kinda dislike rockstar writing style of tarantino post pulp fiction, yikes.

for those wanting to play this game today, don't bother with steam, there was a whole fiasco involving rockstar where they got caugh selling pirated copies on steam using the razor edited versions, and this was one of them, do yourself a favor and use the classic upgraded version a fan patched version made with care to provide and accurate and bugfree version, not butchered by idiotic publishers, honestly even tho i still have my nose itching with 505, i still believe remedy is in better hands than that cult of weirdos that is the rockstar publishing crew, 2023 revealed banger after banger about them.

an asura's wrath without the substance to be an asura's wrath

this game takes a lot of inspiration from that one god capcom game, meaning that most of the cool stuff will be done in QTE and cutscenes, meanwhile youre playing simon says through the entire game, the combat is done through blocking correct colors to both give damage and heal damage but it gets boring so fast, not because its easy but because its the only thing you will do through the entire game, even if it short it will still feel like it drags.
there are some weird bugs like geometry clutching you, enemies throwing you off the map, fall death in like 1 feet from the floor because thats where the character is supposed to die (?)
my biggest grip is that in the cutscenes and QTE youre making 2 extra arms to fight a giant monkey, bodymorphing to match the strenght of a giant gorilla, fighting light with darkness while in game youre just matching colors at the right time, by god it gets dull.
because enemies are designed to always hit you unless you parry, you often see enemies do a quick 190 turn to hit you even if you used the dodge, there is an attack button but it does so little damage compared to defending the right color, it might as well only be there to remind you that parrying is the only thing you should go for in this game, at some point i just ran past enemies to get to the boss fight because all the enemies do is increase game lenght of something that already feeling dull.
it has visuals going for it i'll give it that, its a shame i didn't like it as i went on because it has some amazing designs, cute visuals and a nice non-vocal storytelling.
i specially love the design of the bosses and their attacks, its a shame all the fight revolves around is color matching parrying.

amazing end to a saga with very minor irks to it

it was a joy to play from beggining to end, it improves on everything the games before did, giving some physics to the enemies even so combat feels punchy as hell, however i will remove a point from this game because it broke my R1

while the end drags on a little bit, i feel it ended right when it should with the final battle, some might say it was a bit anti climatic but i say it was already crawling towards that type of end, we know where the franchise went after this anyway, with the new upgraded fighting weight, the bosses all feel a joy to play, you can style most of them even or bonk them into a wall.

best part was kratos turning into Sans Undertale tho.
