Pros: Kaname Date
Cons: Kaname Date

This game presents an enthralling mystery that's backed up with very fun characters and witty writing. The game is very funny at the drop of a hat too, helped by stellar voice performances from the characters. The final twist can make things feel a bit messy, but after I had time to think on it, it still worked for me.

this game is many things
you will witness the worst dialogue youi've ever read in your entire life and be like why the hell am i playing this game oh my god oH MY GOD SPLEASE MAKE THEM STOP TALKING OH GOOOOODO
but then

adachi. well. where to begin. best character of all time. maybe.
debatable.

great vegetab;les.

I pulled my PSP out of storage to play Persona 1, and the UMD for this game was still in it, which immediately prompted a new playthrough.

The first game of one of the best rhythm games out there. They'd go on to add a lot of Quality of Life improvements and make the game more flashy, but because of that, this is also the most no-nonsense Project Diva out there that was a celerbation of Miku and the fans.

A delightfully silly romp through a more investigation based Pheonix Wright game. Playing as Edgeworth is a treat, Lying Coldly is the best theme in the series, and while the game stretches the limits of the imagination, it's tendency to take the ridiculousness seriously gives the game its charm.

My largest issue is unskippable text, especially if you happen to fail an investigation and Reload. It made some of the weird logical leaps painful to fail since you'd have to sit through the same dialogue again at a slow pace.

The best Resident Evil, there I said it

The combo attack system doesn't really feel like it meshes well with the fight design, because the fights are often so chaotic that taking the time needed to finish a combo is almost certain to get you hit unless you interrupt doing it to dodge or parry, especially if there are 4+ enemies on the field.

Once you get access to all partner attacks you can just kind of cycle through them all and spam them while bobbing and weaving, which does give a better sense of flow. But it still feels kind of annoying that you're given so many combo attacks even though they don't work as a primary source of action in a fight.

The rhythm system is a nice idea, though, and there are a lot of little touches that make it feel satisfying when you're doing well.

My goodness does this game have an excellent sense of style. I don't know if I've ever played a game so full of intricate visual details that give it such a striking identity.

The writing works when it's funny and there are a ton of great gags. It mostly works when it's trying to be heartfelt, but I still think it felt a bit too cheesy sometimes. The voice acting is utterly perfect.

I want to give it a higher rating because the gameplay is fun and I LOVE the concept.

But what in the heck was half of the dialogue????

This game has some of my favourite moments in the series and helps add so much to the characters we are familiar with, and a finale that is truly a spectacle to witness. The game has many moments that remind me why I am a final fantasy fan but unfortunately everything surrounding that story feels like it was made to force me away from the game. The game features a typical open world Ubisoft design with its "towers" to unlock activities on the map and I do truly wonder how this game gets a free pass on such mediocrity where other games get criticized for it. It is fine in the first area of the game where it is all new but by the time it happens for the 5th time, it is purely eye rolling "oh...again" and I wish they could have come up with something much more creative for the world that deserves it.

Ultimately I enjoyed my time with the main story, even though there are slight areas of padding, I simply cannot give it a higher mark because of how much the open world aspects of the game ruined my overall enjoyment and at times made it hard to push through and see the story to the end.

A game that wears its inspirations on its sleeve but does not copy then and puts its own spin on it. A charming design with a fun combat system to accompany it which is not too difficult or too easy, alongside a very fun and nostalgic way of explaining the mechanics to the player whilst also not holding their hands allow for some very fun times alongside a surprisingly emotional tale.
