People sure love playing as the bad guy, huh?

(Spoiler Warning)
I tend to really enjoy game mods in Source, something about how they play always scratches a good itch for me and I can tend to put up with a mediocre experience due to that. Entropy: Zero fits that spot to a tee, it's an alright HL2:E2 mod that functions and has some neat ideas but is pretty unremarkable

The tone is probably the strongest part of the game, I think it does a good job at imitating HL2's vibe despite being the story being on the opposite foot. Instead of the misery of the world having a tinge of hope due to Gordon's appearance, you're the one removing any and all hope the rebels could have had. It's really effective when clearing out the streets at the beginning where you see the rebel call-outs in a different light, and I found the most effective use to be the stealth section: you hear the rebels all chatting about how they'll go on after the war in their compound with hacked turrets. Once you sneak to the final room, you can revert the hack, leading to every turret firing for a single second causing the entire area to go dead silent. Something about that really stuck with me and I was expecting more of that throughout the game

Instead the rest of the game was mostly focused on slogging through the underground and citadel with boring puzzles and a lot of searching for the right item/place to use an item. None of the puzzles were engaging and they all felt like artificial reasons to lock the player from progressing forward instead of being more diegetic like the ones in the Half-Life games. I did shockingly find the escort section to be enjoyable, the pace at which enemies were sent at you combined with the size of the area and the speed of the escort target made it so I felt like I was constantly doing something without being overwhelmed

And then comes the two boss fights after all that, both sucking major ass. Both have issues where it's hard to tell whether the damage you're doing is affecting the boss and both bugged out on me multiple times, with the first refusing to go to the next area in its first phase and the second not taking any damage in its final phase (I had quite a few bugs throughout the brief hour and a half I spent but those two were the worst).

It's fortunate the weapons aren't the issue at least, they're more or less the same to base HL2 except they feel a bit more potent overall and the modified AR2 feels amazing. I played on the hardest difficulty but never felt like I was having too much trouble, they give you plenty of ammo and health/shield throughout the game but not too much of an excess so reckless players can still easily die. I think the only issue that comes up relating to this is the few sections with endlessly spawning enemies aren't very fun since there isn't much risk if you carefully position yourself

Entropy: Zero is an alright hour and a half to two hour experience that won't amaze you but won't enrage you. Honestly I played the game just because I wanted to play the sequel, but I'd say it was somewhat worth my time (especially because it's free)

i typically refuse to give anything below a 5 but yknow . erm . eeyikes .

Some good things here and there. Way too lackluster but decent. Its worth playing once for context towards EZ:2 which is practically a superior sequel

it's fine!
there's plenty of cool ideas, but the use of the dialogue kinda feels, out of place sometimes, some of the puzzles are annoyingly hidden in a way that doesn't feel like a natural progression, but having to backtrack like 3 different times because you might have missed one thing, but the level design is mostly good, and again i like a lot of the ideas and concepts. it's cool, but fine in the end.

A bit jank and unfair but overall enjoyable.

its ok? i guess? it starts off really well. its at its peak when you're fighting the rebels but then you get thrown into the abandoned railroad with all of your weapons gone and then you're forced to defend a slow ass stalker in complete darkness for 10 minutes and then vortigaunts start showing up and you fight the worst final boss in an fps game. ill cut the devs some slack, its clear a lot of love was put into this mod and i did enjoy it at the begging but holy shit the latter half of this game gets so bad.

Getting so CLONED until I'm HIGH.

started strong but the final half of the game felt confusing and not well designed, If you like the Half-Life gameplay its okay i guess nothing special

It's a fun little mod that you really only play to get some context for the sequel

Starts off alright but falls flat in the underground sections. From there the puzzle design often expects you to look up which is really hard to convey even for expert developers. Kinda interesting in parts but really annoying in others.

Awful level design, ok outside of that.

This is a story-based mod for Half-Life 2. I'm not a fan of Half-Life 2 (I always felt the first game was better), and this mod I think is even worse than Half-Life 2. In terms of presentation it's kind of impressive, but it's not much fun to actually play. A really annoying, tedious experience. A real chore to play.

This was shit and butt and if it wasn’t free i would poopie i hope 2 is less shit and butt

Em geral um ótimo mod, que traz uma lore que eu sempre tive curiosidade de ver alguma adaptação. Jogar de combine matar rebeldes é surpreendente divertido e a platina do jogo é tranquilinha pra fazer.

This game at best is fun to play if you enjoy source mods and not have anything else to do. It's short and simple, but sweet is far from it. At times, the puzzles get really confusing for me. I think the idea of playing as a combine before the events of City 17 is a great one. But I was just never really all for it. The thing about this mod that stood out to me was the final battle. This boss fight was unnecessarily long and felt really difficult. plus the vortigaunts that fire their magic make it super difficult to progress through the fight, as they do so much damage. but I was just glad it was a short mod.

its alright. the parts where you kill the rebels are really fun even if it isn't too well designed. after that... well... yikes...

it probably has some of the most unnecessarily confusing puzzles ever and the worst final boss I've ever fought. also?? what even was happening. we learn NOTHING about the blue vortigaunts so we're left confused with what we even went up against.

there's also dialogue from the protagonist which i really appreciate in the sequel but honestly feels strange and out of place here.

i definitely recommend it to people who want to get into Half Life 2 mods, other than that you can just kinda skip to the sequel and watch a story recap online or something.

There are a LOT of really interesting ideas in this mod, but it's also drowning in stank fangame level design. Worth playing for context going into the much better sequel.

The first 2 chapters were really good but the last 2 really dragged, I've heard Entropy Zero 2 is better though gonna play that soon

The few enjoyable moments in this mod (such as the stealth sequence) were completely negated by the horribly executed final boss fight. It is possibly the single most frustrating sequence I've ever experienced in a video game, and I refuse to believe the person who designed it has ever played a video game in their life, much less a Half-Life game. But I powered through it! In hard mode, even! Got the achievement and everything. Thought it would be worth it for Entropy: Zero 2. It was not!!

É um jogo bom, mas a lore não é tão explorada e as músicas não me foram tão marcantes. Mas ah... O entropy zero 2. Esse sim é bom.

Very fun half life mod that falls flat at the end.

Achievement tracking can be kinda faulty, had to replay the entire mod a couple times for the 'Garbage Poet' achievement (even though I already had gotten every poem), which meant having to wait an eternity for the stalker that goes AWFULLY slow, but otherwise a very enjoyable mod even in hard difficulty.

o furry com fetiche de gente gorda falou que é bom, então eu joguei e é bom, mas eu devo ter bugado alguma coisa pra tomar softlock em algumas partes, ou eu sou extremamente burro

Early on there's a gunfight at a rebel-occupied junkyard covered with snow. Sure, it's the Source Engine but it somehow managed to look and sound good: bullets whizzing, rusting cars getting riddled with gunfire, running from place to place trying to take out snipers all the while - it was thrilling stuff.

That's in the first 30 or so minutes of this mod, and after that the metrocop vs. rebels plotline is tossed in the garbage in favor of shitty puzzles and fucking terrible boss fights. I can't overstate how bad these elements are. How samey and poorly designed the levels are. The moment you go underground is the moment the game goes under, and I really mean it. Bad puzzles. Bullet sponge enemies that spawn in front of you and OHKO you. An ESCORT MISSION. The final boss was so bad that it surprised me, even considering how lackluster the previous sections were. Dogshit.

It's like the most detested elements of game design got shoved into a blender, really amazing. This mod is pure coal.

Set pieces looked great, but not a lot of effort put into visual guidance. The puzzles—decently designed as they are—were hampered by unrelated winding corridors, dimly lit expansive areas, and vertical elements the player has no obvious reason to look around for. Burnout in the latter half was prevalent and while the final boss was technically impressive, most of the problems in previous areas of the game came back to haunt it.

Hoping the dev was willing to use feedback to improve upon Entropy: Zero 2.
