Weird game to rate because I hate how slowed down the engine is compared to Melee, and tripping is complete and utter nonsense. But on the flip side, this game gave me my first Smash main (Lucas), it had a rocking campaign, a great rollout with that Smash website trickling down updates daily, and it gave me the dream; Mario vs. Sonic. On top of that, thanks to mods, it gave us Brawl +/- and Project M.

I think its actually my 2nd favorite Smash game, all things considered.

competitively speaking I'm sure it sucks with its balance issues and the tripping but I have far too much nostalgia for this game to give it a fair rating on that basis

getting this game when I was 10 was a gateway into many things that I probably wouldn't otherwise have gotten into (like EarthBound)

I mean like yeah it's not as fun to play as the others but I still have fond memories of this one

i hate it and we probably played 1000 hours of it

Okay this game bizarrely tried to deliberately sabotage high level smash play in a weird and I'd almost argue kind of petty way, but, counterpoint, I spent my entire senior year of high school in my friend's basement with 3 CRTs and Wiis hooked up and we all played this nonstop.

Good party game. I don't have a ton of experience with it, however.

I had one of my best birthdays ever playing through Subspace Emissary. As an actual multiplayer Smash game, it's clearly the worst one. As a big dumb crossover? It's everything I ever wanted.

Amazing smash bros game, but it broke my Wii when I played it back in 2008. It actually caused an error in my console where it overheats almost every hour and shuts off on its own. Honestly, I'm glad it was this game that caused my Wii to break, at least it wasn't a terrible game.

god i loved brawl but god i hated tripping

The nostalgia of playing this in elementary school and loving Sub Space Emissary will always be with this game

The weakest Smash entry, but Subspace Emissary is a must-play for any Nintendo fan.

This is the peak of singleplayer content in a Smash game.
And i have no friends or stable internet connection so this is perfect!
The artstyle is kinda weird, but the cutscenes are the cherry on top of the cake.
The gameplay is the weaker of the series but who cares.
It's still amazing.

when i was in high school i tried to get into competitive melee, so i'm legally required to hate this game

i have a soft spot for this game in particular

I loved this game so much growing up, me and my friends played it every single weekend for hours on end and had so much fun. So of course I had the great idea of playing it with my friend a decade after the game's release just to see how it was. Game feels like trash to play and we only lasted about 3 matches before turning it off and deciding to never play it again. Subspace Emissary was cool as hell though and it's sad we'll never get something like that again.

Subsoace Emissary is a fucking masterpiece that Super Smash Bros. will never be able to recreate.

Subspace Emissary is a better story than the World of Light. This may not be the best game but it does have the best single-player content.

Definitely has my favorite level designer out of all the games in the series, in spite of some of the prop objects not being very useful overall and taking up way too much space on the map. SSBU and SSBM might be better, but I love building levels so very much and probably made a couple hundred in this game. Also, Subspace Emissary was great.

Pros -- Almost everything.
Cons -- Occasional slipping, people acting like they're the most hardcore gamers ever while blaming their shortcomings on slipping.

This is the Smash game I played the most through my life, with a friend. It was a very good time everytime we played it. Of course, it is a little flawed, and was replaced by the better Smash for Wii U and later Ultimate, but it was a blast when it was released. Back then, we didn't even care that much about tripping and the slower side of the game.

My favorite Smash game so far ¯\(ツ)

Best Smashy Bro game. Love the graphics style.
