Um dos meus favoritos da franquia.

Pretty cool, doesn't do that much for me but I still have fun everytime I replay it.

Imediately it becomes apparent that the game is episodic. Every episode is made into smaller parts. Everything is scored and timed. Like speed runs was a thing.
This is mostly a game where you play as Jill Valentine. Original Resident Evil Jill. She sure has changed. Or maybe the resolution just makes her body parts pop more. Eyes up here buddy...
But don't take me wrong, she is not a damsel in distress. She opens her own doors.
We also get to see Chris Redfield again, also from the first game, although not from the start and not much before later in game. There are several other side characters like Parker, Jessica and Raymond. You shift between some of them through the game, which is nice when changing pace.

The game has you investigate some new strange virus (T-Abyss) infested sea creatures, that appear after a terrorist attack on a US/EU mutual island in the mediterranian sea, Terragrigia, by a guy named Veltro.
This investigation leads you to a ship called The Queen Zamaria. You then start to search through this ghost ship to try and piece together what is going on. You spend most of the game on this ship but do also see other places.

I played the game with controller, and never tried the Mouse/Keyboard combo, so I can only judge the games mechanics based on the controller. This was mostly fine, although a bit clunky. Worst part was the dodge mechanic that I never mastered during this game. It had to be timed within a certain attack window on top of pressing direction button and A-button. I might have dodged 7-10 times during the game, mostly not on purpose as the A-button also was used for a special melee attack on downed opponents.

The game is very action heavy, and puzzles are not existing at all. I really love the first 2 games, and I really can't see any of those games in this game besides from the chracters used, the lingo and the Hunters. Rarely did I feel any tension or sacry moments. Only the first 2 episodes gave me a little tingle once in a while, but it quickly wore off when facing 150 enemies before the first 3 episodes out of 12 were over (I got the achievement to prove it).

There is an inventory management system, but nothing like the first games as it was only used to stash weapons. You could hold 3 weapons at any given time, and the rest went to the inventory. When you found new weapons you could only swap it with one of your existing weapons, but still that weapon went to the inventory.
To not make you too powerful the game limited the amount of ammo you can carry, and let you expand on that during the game. 6 types of weapons/ammo, handguns, large handguns/Magnum, assault rifles, rifles, shotgund and rocket launchers. Although rocket launcher ammo was not something you picked up, but you could have 1 launcher left over from a boss battle. I believe I had something like 12-13 different weapons using those types of ammo at the end. Most of them are real world weapons like G36 or PSG1 etc.
It was also possible to collect secrets that could better your weapons with mods.

There were a few different enemy types, but most were boring. Goo-puddle, Goo-man, adv-Hunter, Camo-Hunter, wolves, big wolves, huge-arrow-blaster, cleave-man, Messy-Goo-Man etc. Most of them are very slow moving. But that is needed when you get attacked by 3-6 enemies at a time and they all are bullet sponges. On normal difficulty you can take 4-5 attacks before dying and you can carry 5 heal-ups at a time.
Most boss battles were horrible. I had 2 somewhat good encounters. The first one, but he was just a ginormous bullet sponge that could kill me in one swoop while a continuous horde of other minions kept coming until the big died. And the other was the last one (I died 3 times). Last boss was just ridiculous, but I suspect that my lacking ability to dodge properbly made that one more difficult than it needed to be.

The story there is bland at best, with only a few scenes that peaked my interest.

It's pretty basic, weirdly paced, and pretty nonessential to the story, but I enjoyed it as a longtime fan of the series. If you're exhausting the list of Resident Evil games to play, give this a go.

bro, it's so hard to not type revelaitons. no wonder they got it wrong.

bounced off this game HARD, did not enjoy the episodic nature of the story. I ended up watching a friend play through the entire game, so I do know what awaits me later on and I enjoyed at least the final boss design.

It still just feels like a DS game. I want to like it, I just don't. It's okay tho

It is a solid return to form for a more slower paced horror style of resident evil, but it feels pretty standard and like you're going through the motions.

I like the setting on the boat a lot. It's something unique for the series. I like that it has a large cast of characters for variety. The boss fights are decent. It has a good level of content as well. One thing I enjoy is going back to previous areas to unlock more stuff. It's very Metroid-esque but it works for this game quite well.

I don't really have anything huge issues, but it's a lot of small things that compile. The monsters are pretty boring goop monsters. The 2 side characters that they keep cutting back to, like the military dudes or whatever? Probably the worst RE characters ever. Minimum top 5. The villain is pretty whatever and not all that fun. And the whole game just feels simple: it's not really something you can assign blame to it for because it's a 3DS game. But it's lacking more substance for me.

It just dosent really click for me in any good or bad way as a Resident Evil game. It's very middle of the road. But decent overall. It has a formula that works and it runs with it.

I just happen to like the sequel better.

While playing through Resident Evil Revelations, I was often reminded of playing RE3 Remake in that it felt often like a game in the RE universe, but made by people who either wanted to do their own thing or simply didn't understand the appeal of the franchise. However, unlike RE3, I found myself not really having fun with it even on its own terms.

Part of the game being starkly different stems from the game being a 3DS game first and foremost and I can understand that, even if it being sold on Steam does open itself up to scrutiny. However, there's a lot that simply can't be faulted to the 3DS' capabilities.

First being its story, which is beyond ludicrous. Now I get it, I've played enough Resident Evil games to know that you need to suspend your disbelief frequently. It's simply how these games function. However, the level of sheer silliness in some of the plot directions and character designs is almost laughable. Most characters in this game outside of Chris are extremely horny with comments out of the blue, and jokes that simply haven't aged too well. Sure, weird guy wanting to sleep with how woman is funny the first time, but not when it's then used for most of the game's comedic relief. Eventually it just gets grating.

Then there's the gameplay flow. I'll give the team the benefit of the doubt and say that the aim controls are due to it being a DS game first and foremost, but the way fights are designed can't be as easily excused. Nearly every enemy in the game is as simple as "shoot it till it's dead" and that works just about every time. That, combined with a ton of boring horde fights and some bullet sponge enemies, makes the RE3 Remake comparisons almost learn in its favor over Revelations.

Topping it all off is how the few things the game introduces end up quickly falling flat. The scan system for example rarely feels useful and is quite cumbersome to use in the first place. You get a healing item every time you scan enough enemies which is cool and all, but you rarely need it and it takes a surprising amount of time to do. The weapon parts system feels mostly underutilized too. Both of these systems I ultimately stopped bothering with about halfway through, and it made me have a slightly better time.

There are still merits to RE Revelations. It's more RE if you were really hungering for more RE, and some of the classic conventions are there. However, looking at it from the lens of the series, this is ultimately one of the weakest entries. Not because of frustration since it's rarely if ever angering, but more cause it's just plain boring. Likely will forget this in a week.

Someone please edit the video of the guy on the Disney cruise getting deafened by the horn, but it's Jill on the boat of this game idfk I wish I knew how to edit videos.

Gostei muito, terrorzin e gameplay bons

Wanna know why this franchise almost died in the early 2010's? Look no further. You thought RE was all about exploration, atmosphere, careful resource management and being smart? Nah. Enjoy a "survival horror" with bare bones gameplay, stupid and sadistic design choices, forced combat sections with endless ammounts of monsters and 70% of the runtime comprised of cutscenes. Its stunning just how badly the devs refuse to give any ammount of immersion here. The whole game is basically chopped up into 5-25 minute sections before it yanks the controls from your hands and force you to watch more cutscenes. And when you actually get to play it: Here's a bullet sponge boss. Here's a turret section. Here's a shitty swimming section. Or how about two? More cutscenes? Fucking exhausting.

excellent aside from the terragrigia segments

The writing is on par with what you'd expect for a Resident Evil game of this era but the atmosphere is unmatched. Ghost ships are one of the best possible settings for horror stories and the incredible soundtrack in this game is perfect for it. Raid mode is also the best bonus mode I've ever seen in an RE game, beats Mercenaries by a long shot. With Mercenaries I play a few levels then forget about it while with raid mode I've been slowly working my way up to level 50 for months and have not stopped having fun. Also Rachael is great and it's nice to have a Jill focused game where she and Chris get to team up.

Also the ship it takes place on was designed by George Trevor and any reference to the Trevor family automatically improves any game exponentially.

Started out kinda flat and I was not impressed by the simplified mechanics and the boring enemy design. However by the midpoint it actually turns into a fun almost Uncharted-like adventure.

Pretty good for a portable game.

Didn't find this one to be that good, but I may check it out another time.

the middest shit i've played in a long time

Revelations is what i'd call the "hidden gem" in the franchise. It has some issues, but it''s overall a very competently made Resident Evil game. Funny how this is actually a 3DS game, and yet it's still fully fledged installment to the franchise and not a cheap handheld game like i initially thought. Gameplay, design, story and presentation are surprisingly solid and hold up well for a handheld that couldn't even match the hardware power of a PS2. Capcom basically said "F*** it, we're gonna make a real Resident Evil game on this thing!" and this is just funny to me.

Pretty neat little game. Tries to blend the more traditional survival horror aspects on the ship (which is where the game really shines) with the more modern action-focused gameplay in other segments, and I think it balances this pretty well. I will say the second half can drag a little bit and the final boss is probably the most annoying in the series, but a solid foundation and I'm excited to see how 2 builds on this. The plot was also pretty wacky but that made it a lil charming in a way.

Pretty neat little game, enjoyed. Funny additions to RE lore though.

achei que iria me prender mais!

For this being the first time I've finished the game after buying it 3 times, I had better like it a lot. I did.
Back during a time when Resi was a more action oriented series without the old limited space, ammo conservation or labyrinthine level design, Resident Evil Revelations decided to thread the needle, and on the 3DS of all things. It unfortunately still has some action focused set pieces, but they are few and short, the rest of the game is spent exploring a ship called the Queen Zenobia. You've got puzzles, weirdly shaped keys, and even though it's framed as episodic, you return to Jill with the same equipment and same parts of the maze unlocked for re-exploration further down the line. It's good. Just play this and Rev 2 instead when you think you want to play 5 and 6. It is arguably a more appropriate step for the series after 4 anyway.

I will say I've never played the 3DS version. That's a whole different story, but I genuinely can't believe it was on it, because it looks so good in basically all of its later iterations.
