The first video game I ever played. It was too scary compared to my VTech Video Painter, but I did return to it a couple years after sampling the NES in our household.
There was barrel-y any jumping in this platformer. "Quit monkeying around!" I screamed, throwing my controller directly at the Zinger. "This is just bananas!"
I would later be serenated to sleep by an Aquatic Ambiance, my life changed forever. I was no longer a child the following morning. I was a gamer.

One of the games I played as a kid and never finished. Now I know why: it's really difficult! The Nintendo 3ds emulator helped me finishing it letting me use savepoints. But, beyond that, it still as beutiful and fun as I remember when I first saw it on SNES.
The music is one of the big moments of the game. It's not just nostalgic, it's really good, giving such a charm to the game.
The controls are good, sometimes you can face a bug, but in general, it's acceptable.
There's a reason Donkey Kong Country is one of the best plataform games of all time: it piss you off when you lost (the final scene made me mad), but when you finish a challenge, you'd be full of joy.

This is a true story.
I was about 7-years-old when Donkey Kong Country came out. It looked insane, and more than any other game for the system, it was the one that left me the most jealous of SNES kids. I needed to play it, but the only one I knew who had a copy was a boy on my block who I didn't get along with. I tried to suck up to him, but he knew I had a Genesis. He saw through my deception.
One day while riding my bike, I saw him run out of his garage to go over to a friend's house. With the garage door still open, I saw a golden opportunity... And so I snuck into his home and made my way to his bedroom, popped in Donkey Kong Country, and started playing. From the hallway, I could hear his mother approach, asking him a question that I cannot recall, clearly assuming her kid decided to stay indoors. As she turned the corner and peered into his room, she saw me on his bed playing the Super Nintendo. I'll never forget how loud she screamed as she chased me around his house and out into the street.
Just me doin' a little B&E because I love Donkey Kong Country so much.

For me, DKC is ruined by its visuals. Not because it looks bad, or anything, I actually quite like it, but I think the smooth, irregular graphics make every single platform and hitbox impossible to immediately gauge, which for a game so demanding is damning. It's a shame, because otherwise, I think it's quite the great game.
