Really interesting game. Art and vibe wise, it's a SteamWorld game, so, pretty goddamn good. The blend of junky steampunk with the new sci-fi setting works way better than I thought it would. Writing is also solid, especially the light interactions amongst the crew between missions. I'm admittedly not crazy about the gameplay, feels a bit sluggish for me personally, but I definitely think plenty of other people would enjoy it more than I did. But yeah, solid game.
one of my go-to options for "game i play during a discord call" which, to be clear, is a compliment. it's not really a heist game, more of a XCOM-type turn-based 2D shooter. lots of fun. feels like i'm playing stripped-down dnd combat, but i get the satisfaction of aiming the guns myself. also it has steam-powered giraffe and a bunch of silly little robot characters that make funny indistinct robot sounds when they talk. very cute game. highly recommend getting the DLC as well.
The Steamworld franchise has this uncanny ability to make me enjoy genres I would otherwise have no interest in - and Heist is the prime example of that. It boils down the turn based strategy genre to its essence, and all of its features and mechanics exist in service of FUN. My favorite Steamworld game.

Great game, I felt that the last part was a little bit longer that it should have been, as I played the second world I already felt that the game could end with the Queen bit and stuff. Nonetheless, all characters were awesome, I think that I used everyone, the fish one, the one that had a wheel and the buffed one were my three mains.
Overall was a fun time. I think I like the Dig games more because digging is somehow more fun than ricocheting bullets off of walls. One big complaint though, I really dislike how enemies can walk through my guys to position themselves perfectly, yet you can't do the same. That's some awful smelling cheese right there.
Having a light-hearted take on the turn-based combat of XCOM and similar games, this one is definitely worth your time.
The story is simple but doesn't waste your time. If you're not interested in the dialogue, you can skip it immediately and ignore every companion. Because of this, it balances out - I feel neutral.
Combat, however, takes center stage in this game. And it's good. I'm not normally a fan of basic turn-based combat, but both the mechanics and room layouts make every encounter different. There's a lot of options when it comes to team positioning (there are typically multiple entrances to each room) and overall strategy. In addition, instead of an x% chance to hit, you're in charge of aiming the weapon of each character. All of this blends together to create a great experience with a lot of flexibility.
While the roster is extremely limited and doesn't allow for any flexibility in terms of abilities, each character has something unique about them that helps alleviate this problem. It's not perfect, but each character had a role in the party. In addition, improving stats is done almost entirely through finding better weapons and utility items, which can be moved from character to character. This makes sure that you can try out a lower level character in an end-game level without them getting obliterated.
If you're interested in a turn-based action game that rewards skill and occasional bouts of creativity, you're gonna have a good time with this one.

It’s incredibly different than the previous 2 games, this one being a turn-based gun RPG but regardless it connects to the previous 2 games in a smart way and the gameplay is very enjoyable despite feeling somewhat repetitive but some of the guns give characters unique ways to play the game. It’s definitely a turn-based RPG that 100% has to make you think throughout the battles in hopes to collect everything and survive. It doesn’t overstay, it’s perfectly paced, and it was fun as heck
I have not played any other SteamWorld games so some of the wider references may have passed me by, but I enjoyed the challenge present in every level - even if at times it felt like the AI was given unfair advantages that even a well prepared player couldn’t do much to resist.
I will probably return to it over the years for a quick attempt at metallic piracy.
