I basically forced myself to play this, due to the imminent release of Side Order.
The sheer audacity of Nintendo to charge full-price for what should have been more DLC for Splatoon 2, alongside the context of Animal Crossing New Horizons’ development, makes me hate this game on principle. And Side Order isn't even that good.

This has aged much, much better than I thought it would, after having not touched it for at least a decade.
Too bad it has one of the most obnoxious save prompts that I've ever seen.

Damn, who knew that Mario Party could still be fun without minigames?

This game left a poor first impression on me. Wandering around aimlessly to find the level exit is slow and boring, and the combat isn't exciting either. It would probably become more fun if I kept playing, but I don't want to put my full effort into it.
I've been waiting for Risk of Rain 2 to go on a cheap sale, so I hope that game is better.

Not bad for an official attempt at a 3D Celeste, but its wonky camera proves that the formula could only truly work if it copied Mario 3D Land/World instead of Mario 64.

If you're interested in this game but have been on the fence about playing it, buy it right now because Sega is probably about to delist it and shit all over its greatness with a Colors-tier remaster.

This is a case study for how much presentation matters in a video game. Its controls and length are on the simple side, but how could you possibly feel bored playing it?

This game has absolutely terrible performance on my end, but yet it's surprisingly fun. I'm not usually one to play survival-crafting games, but hardly anything about the execution here feels tedious or annoying, and the monster-catching aspect gives a lot of charm and incentive to explore the world.
Game Freak got what they fucking deserved.

This is a nice little beat-em-up/platformer hybrid, plagued by long loading screens and frustrating instakill pits. I don't know if I'll ever beat the game without abusing save states.

This game is supposed to be about nothing, but there's some text on the screen. What a fucking rip-off.

This is up there with Portal as one of the most perfectly executed "short but sweet" games. Some levels are more frustrating than others, but it's absolutely worth the trouble.

A solid foundation that is rough on the edges, with reused level themes, bland gimmicks and a finicky camera. It's no wonder that the developers have quickly built onto the formula with sequels.

Is Sonic R one of your all-time favorite video game soundtracks?
If so, drop what you're doing and listen to this game's soundtrack, right fucking now.

I got some serious Team Fortress 2 vibes while I was playing this game, so that's how you know it's good.
...Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something else about the game which I forgot to mention?

2023

This game left a very strong first impression on me, but the longer I played it, the more it cracked.
Your options to play are either to follow a mostly linear objective with a laughably bad story, or to roam around with no direction and no story; there isn't a middle ground like Rabi-Ribi. The soundtrack is also relatively weak, which is a huge shame.
I still prefer this over Rabi-Ribi because of its high polish and creative boss fights, but it's not quite perfect.
