Resident Evil 4 always was and still is my favorite Resident Evil game! Granted I haven't played the RE2 or 3 remakes yet, but only 7 was able to come close to this game for me. I never played the original games when I was a kid and this was my first real introduction to the series. The story, levels and weapons still hold up and the general vibe and atmosphere is still legendary for me! Leon is still a great protagonist to play as and the gameplay loop of killing mobs of enemies while still struggling to look for ammo and healing items is still so satisfying to play through. Yes this game may have taken the series into more of a action route, but I'd argue this game still kept the formula from previous entries, it was just Capcom who learned the wrong lessons from it.

I was also surprised at how lengthy the campaign was, taking me almost 20 hours to complete which is great value these days. Plus you get to do new game plus with newly unlocked weapons, play through Ada's mini campaign (which if it was done now it would probably be DLC), mercenaries mode etc. Only real downside for me was the giant escort mission you had to do with Ashley who has the worst A.I. pathing ever! There was one time when I was running away from a boss and instead of following me, Ashley decided to just stand still and get killed! Thankfully you don't have to protect her for large chunks of the game and most of the time your just alone as Leon, which I feel is where this game is at its best!

There's already talk of a remake of this game, and how they want to cut out large chunks of this game which would be immensely disappointing. I would expect all the content from the original plus new content for me to be remotely interested. Also if they could improve Ashleys A.I. too, that would be great. But otherwise this original game will always remain a classic in my mind!

With Cyberpunk 2077 fast approaching, I think it's about time that I review this masterpiece! This game had everything I ever really want in an RPG: great story and characters; choice and consequence; a fantastic world to explore; a fantastic soundtrack; full-length expansions as opposed to just 2-hour long micro-DLCs! If anything this game combined elements from two of my favourite RPG franchises, being: the fantastic open-world design of the Elder Scrolls games, to the deeper stories and player choices of the Dragon Age series.

While this game doesn't let you create your own character, Geralt is such a fantastic character in my opinion and I didn't mind playing as him for 100 hours, with the occasional gameplay segments as Ciri. The supporting characters are equally as fascinating and made me want to get to the next story segment with them. The soundtrack is a real highlight and I have since added many of the tracks to my own personal playlist. The open-world is varied with the different places you get to see, with Skellige being the big highlight of the game! I also appreciated how load times aren't as frequent as you expect, with the only times being if you either died or fast travelled. The combat is okay if a bit hack 'n slashy. You do get the signs to use which vary it up a bit, but it's definitely not the greatest. I also really enjoy the Gwent Card game, which I know friends I've spoken to hated it, but as a long time Yu Gi Oh fan, it was a cool distraction from the usual gameplay loop.

Both the side and main quests are very well written and fun to play through, although I understand some peoples complaints on the over-reliance on Detective mo-, uh I mean Witcher senses. The levelling system is serviceable, but after a while, it just became mindless number dumping for me. I just wish it was a bit more meaningful like fallouts perk and skill system (pre-fallout 4) for example. Roach is also one of the worst mounts ever, as he gets stuck on practically pebbles, and is just generally annoying to control. I do appreciate being able to call him though and not have to worry about him being attacked all the time by enemies, like in Skyrim and Oblivion.

But overall, this is easily in my top 10 games of all time! Highly recommend!

Easily my favourite game of all time and my score reflects that! I was a massive fan of the first game and the hype was real for this game when it came out and it was better then I hoped! This review is just my opinion as I find Borderlands 2 to be one of the few almost perfect games for me. To me, this is the ultimate looter shooter experience and no game after, not even Borderlands 3 could top.

The gameplay had so many improvements from the first game such as the badass rank system that you can carry across your characters; the loot was more exciting and the guns were awesome to use. Combat felt a bit more fast-paced than the first game as well. The major improvement was the narrative however as this game truly has one of the best stories in games that I have experienced and with Handsome Jack easily being, in my opinion, the best villain in any video game! The vault hunters are also really cool with the Mechromancer being my favourite! Overall this really is a solid RPG and one I've replayed the most, neck and neck with Skyrim!

Some elements could have been improved upon, which Pre-Sequel and 3 did, but they will never be as good as this game in my opinion!

My first and favourite Fallout game ever! When I think of the best western RPGs ever made this game always comes to mind! Obsidian is continuing there stride with the likes of The Outer World's (which I can't wait to review!), but for now, let's look at Fallout New Vegas!

In terms of good, there is a lot to love here! The story starts you off as a nameless courier who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, got shot and is now out for revenge. While your character having no back story is very different from Bethesda's style of allowing you to see it all first hand, this allows you to roleplay a lot more and that really is the main thing Obsidian does so well here! Levelling is handled differently (and more to my liking) here as you gain fewer skill points per level in comparison to Fallout 3 and you only get a perk point every 2 levels. This forces you to decide how you want to build your character and play an actual role in an RPG! Bethesda prides themselves are allowing you to be a jack of all trades and be OP, which does work, but it lends itself to less of a reason to play again after finishing a playthrough. I feel like this really adds more replay value as I have easily replayed this game as many times as I have any Elder Scrolls game.

The combat overall is streamlined to be simplified as well some new additions such as being able to aim down your sight, equip different ammo types for your guns (such as Regular, Armor Piercing & Hollowpoint) and VATS returning in all its glory. Guns are now mapped to one skill, which is prefered as I never liked having to upgrade Small and Big guns separately. The RPG side of things is overhauled too, as speech checks are now based on whether you have the actual skill or not, compared to Fallout 3 having a chance system for successful attempts. The side quests are a delight as ever before as you really get to end and approach them in multiple ways, more so than in F3. The main questline allows you to pick and choose which faction you want to help and you can be good or evil, the choice is up to you, compared to F3, which forced you down a set path. Your choices really do matter, as when I was going for the platinum trophy and had to get all the different faction endings, they were all bittersweet, as I could never find one that was good for everyone all around. If one town benefited from my choices, another got screwed over even if I tried to help them as much as I could. Companions are okay, as they each have their own side quests to do and will have their own ending based on what you chose. They were cool, but they never met the heights of Mass Effect or Dragon Ages Companions for me. The faction system also beats out F3's Karma, as helping one faction will anger another and you can't win them back by giving Hobos bottles of water. There is even a perk that allows you to have strange encounters in the wasteland that you wouldn't normally, how cool is that?

In terms of the negatives; the graphics are poor to look at these days, even for when this game came out. The New Vegas strip is lifeless, with only a few NPCs walking around. The game does have technical issues like F3 where, as you play the game longer, crashes become more frequent and there was slow down in frame rate every now and then. However my copy of Fallout New Vegas, still plays to this day on my PS3, unlike my Fallout 3 copy which I can't even play for 2 minutes without it crashing. And I didn't have to borrow a copy from my friend just to finish up my platinum, like other said game. Overall, I highly recommend this game above all the other first-person fallouts! The desert setting may be boring to some and the game does start out slow, but if you stick with it you will get a behemoth of an RPG expierence!

An absolute masterpiece of a game! This game came during a very difficult time in my life and it just wiped all the depression and sadness away with its wonderful music, characters and story!

Haven't had this much fun with a resident evil game since 4! Still need to play the RE2 remake, I'm so behind, but this game was certainly a treat! This game expertly went back to its roots in making it more of a survival horror game, with inventory management and limited guns and ammo. The story is minimal, but it works for this throwback to modern horror films like Texas Chainsaw that there going for. The VHS tapes you find from other characters perspectives was a nice touch. The first person perspective works very well and I am someone who wouldn't mind seeing it in 8! Overall this was a great horror game, with tons of replay value, I'm stuck on Madhouse difficulty but will get to this one again soon!

After a few months break, I finally came back and finished this game fully, and I have some notes. Starting with the good, the storytelling and writing is a big upgrade from the first game, which had a simple story and twist but was still fun and enjoyable. This game's story is a lot bigger and more engaging throughout. Glados is just as awesome as ever and I loved the companion Wheatley, voiced excellently by Stephen Merchant!

They also add in a lot more puzzle solving elements with the portal gun, adding in a lot more environmental tools for you to use to solve the puzzles with which I appreciated. The gameplay definitely has more variety then the first game.

My main issue is that the campaign I feel goes on way too long for me personally. I'm not that into puzzle games, and the first game took me 4 hours to beat, which was the perfect length for someone like me. This game just went on and on at times and I feel like the story could have resolved a lot earlier. The gameplay is improved but after a while it was dragging on and I just got bored which is why I took a break for a few months before finally coming back to finish it. The story is what made me want to come back but I was glad when it finally concluded. Overall, I'm glad I finally played these games and I do hope we get a Portal 3 one day.

WOW just wow! I had heard this game was great as I really wanted to play it, but I waited for the Final Cut version to come out so I can play with full voice acting, and now that I got to finally play it I can see why its getting so much praise. As someone who loves Western RPGs for their choice consequences and skill checks this game provides that in spades.

Disco Elysium has you play as a detective in a fiction world heavily inspired by post world war 2 Europe. You wake up with a wicked hangover from a night of binge drinking which leads to you having amnesia and not remembering who you are, and losing your gun and badge. You see meet up with your partner Kim, who's one of the best companions in gaming by the way, and solve a recent murder in the town.

While you do eventually learn your characters name and back story, what I like is that they really let you shape your detective into whatever kind of person you want him to be. And another cool feature is how they include different political ideologies like Communism, Fascism and some others to serve as the games factions in a way. You can choose to be whatever political ideology you want, through your dialogue choice and you then can unlock a special side quest towards the end of the game for each of the political groups, depending on which you chose. I myself went the Moralist route meaning I was a good guy, trying to help people best I could for the betterment of everyone and the quest you get with that path was really cool.

The story overall was pretty good, however the mystery of the murder does kind of end in a cop out and felt a little unsatisfying in terms of solving a mystery. But again the characters you meet along the way are just so good, that it made the game on the whole excellent to play.

Gameplay is pretty much walking around and talking to people since there is no combat. At first I thought it this would be boring, but the writing is just so good that you never really miss it. What also helps is how your skills are constantly coming into play through the excellent narration by Lenval Brown, as he really brings the game and situations to life. The skills act as voices in your head and can either help you in conversations or they could lead down a different path, as you have to decide which ones to listen to. I found the choices to be really cool and again the writing for all of these characters is so well done. You can also find clothing items that can boost your skills and decrease others so you have to constantly swap out clothing depending the situation. You also get thoughts which kind of act like flaws in The Outer Worlds, where if you internalize them you get a benefit at the cost of a detriment. I do like these but I do wish they showed you the pros and cons up front, because they don't and I had to go google each of the thoughts to see which I wanted to take. You can forget ones you don't want but it costs skill points that you would rather spend on skills.

The music by British Sea Power is also amazing with some really catch tunes and some others that go deep into your soul!

Some of the negatives is some of the limited choice in many of the quests. A lot of the time there's only one solution or way to resolve a quest, with only a couple here and there that offer alternate ways to resolve them. For such a deep RPG, this aspect was disappointing compared to games like The Outer Worlds and many others that often offer multiple ways to complete quests. This game also uses chance base skill checks as opposed to having set skill requirements. The last RPG I saw use this was Fallout 3. I know why they did this as they wanted to simulate the tabletop feel as this game originally was going to be a tabletop game. It is a creative choice but to me I have never really like this approach to skill checks. In a tabletop game if I fail a roll that's it, I lose, where as in a video game, I can just reload a save until I eventually get it. I mention this because at one point in the story you pretty much have to do that, as your faced with a skill check with a very low chance regardless of how many points you have in that skill. You have to do this not once but twice and there's no way to progress the story without it which is just not right.

Other complaints are mostly minor as I wish they explained what each skill does up front, as you have to find an almost hidden tab that most people I feel would miss, that gives you more detailed explanations. And the fact they use such unconventional names for the skills, it can be confusing. When I first booted up the game I was so intimated by the skills that I put the game down for months before finally learning it recently. There were also some minor clipping issues during cutscenes as well sometimes the dialogue box would freeze and not update forcing me to reload a save.

Other then that though, this is a fantastic RPG game that I am so glad I finally played! I definitely want to go back for a Hardcore mode playthrough that changes the way you play, and pick a different political alignment. Otherwise, I recommend to anyone who loves western RPGs and doesn't a dialogue heavy game.

I have been so excited to play this game as I loved 7 and this game was taking a lot of influence from 4, which is still my favorite Resident Evil game. After playing it, I can see this game took a lot from 4, and not just in the similar European setting, but a lot of the gameplay systems are ripped straight out of that game and into this one. For someone like me who loves 4, this was awesome, but if you prefer the classic games like 1 and 2, you may not like this one.

The story has you once again play as Ethan Winters, as your wife Mia is killed while you and your daughter are kidnapped by Chris Redfield, and your stranded in a village somewhere in Europe. There are some twist reveals at the end that I'm not sure how to feel about yet, but overall I enjoyed the games story. Ethan is written a lot better here then in 7, as he comes across as more capable and reacts to things a lot more like how any normal person would.

Gameplay wise, like I said this game plays exactly like 4, with how combat works, to their being a merchant known as The Duke (who I loved in this game) who can sell things to you and upgrade your weapons. You can find treasures both off of fallen enemies and out in the game world, which as a lot for you to explore. Its not open world, but there is a lot of areas off the beaten path with optional bosses for you to fight and gain cool items. The weapon variety is pretty awesome with some cool endgame weapons and ones you can only get in new game plus that worth tracking down. I just love the gameplay loop, as it encourages you to explore and get as much money as you can so you can upgrade your weapons more and more. Great power fantasy.

The villains are pretty cool too, with Lady D being with real highlight even though her involvement is pretty short lived. I also loved Heisenberg who straight up sounded like Nicolas Cage, which always had me smile. The other two main bosses are okay, and then theirs the final boss who's pretty cool too. Each boss has their own zone for you to enter before you get to them. Lady D has the castle which feels classic RE, while Heisenberg has a factory. A lot of people don't seem to like the factory, but I actually really enjoyed that area and the enemies you get to fight in it.

Some of the negatives, are that the puzzles are a bit too simplistic in this one, They don't really take too long to solve and some of them you can solve just by pressing random buttons until it solves itself which happened to me a couple of times. There are also areas in the game, that while on your first time playing them, they are pretty cool, but on your second or third playthrough they drag big time. The opening hour is you walking around a lot and watching cinematics, which was cool on my first playthrough, but when I started my second, it just dragged on and on. You can skip cutscenes, but there's still a lot of walking/running simulator segments in that first hour you can't skip passed.

But overall, I enjoyed this game a lot and it was everything I was hoping for! Highly recommend it!

So after just finishing Resident Evil 8, I can now say I have finished yet another RE game, with that being this remake. I never played the original version, as RE4 was my first real Resident Evil game, but this remake has been very high on my want to play list as I love this series and the survival horror genre! I spend about 8 hours in Leon's campaign and then 7 hours in Claire's. So what did I think?

I will say first off the graphics are top notch, even a few years later. The detail in characters faces is incredible and I love the design of the police station and many of the areas. Combat is more like the modern RE games with over the shoulder third person shooting, You still have to manage inventory space with ammo, key items and other useful things like planks to board up windows to stop zombies coming in. The weapons all feel good to use, though Claire by far gets the better arsenal, as she gets multiple ammo types, with special ammo for her handgun that blows zombies heads off with a single shot. It felt like favoritism on the devs part lol.

I played on Assisted difficulty and it felt just about right for me personally, as the game is still challenging but not brain dead easy. Zombies still take a million shots to kill with one time I fought a zombie that took 10 shots to the head to die which was ridiculous. But overall it felt fair for the most part as you can't go in guns blazing, and have to be strategic with your shots and use of items. The puzzles as well were really good and had me stop and think for a few minutes to figure them out which was good.

The story is serviceable overall, and again I never played the original, but I liked seeing the two sides of the story. Leon's campaign goes into how the outbreak happened and the two scientists who did it, where as Claire's is more personal through her side character Sherry, which I enjoyed seeing too. Playing Claire's campaign second helped humanize a lot of the characters and add more depth to it all. There are some plot inconsistencies towards the end between the two campaigns though, with regards to when certain events play out for each character and in what order.

Some of the negatives, are the new remake soundtrack. Its awful honestly. I played the first few hours with it, but then caved and switched to the original music which isn't even in the base game and you have to pay extra for it as DLC. This is just unacceptable in my opinion as there are plenty of other remakes like Trials of Mana that include both versions of the OST in the base game. What makes it even worse is that it feels like they deliberately put zero effort into the remake OST, so that classic fans or ones who care about good music in video games would cave and buy the DLC. Even though you have to pay extra for it, if you do decide to do it, the original OST is awesome and it even includes the old SFX when selecting items in your inventory and the creepy voice at the title screen.

The other negative is the lack of boss variety. I understand this is a remake, so they probably were just being faithful to the original game, but you literally only have two bosses in the whole game that you have to fight multiple times. Mr. X and another boss I won't spoil. I can understand Mr. X since he's meant to stalk you throughout the game, but the other boss you have to fight multiple times too in scripted events which is just lazy. Even RE1 had more boss fights than this. I guess because they had Mr. X following you, maybe they had to cut back on adding more bosses, but to me I just wasn't a fan. I'd rather have more unique bosses for each of the areas, while still having Mr. X show up occasionally. Mr. X is cool though, and the fact that you can often hear him stomping around looking for you, always sent chills down my spine.

Overall though, this was a solid Resident Evil game and I enjoyed playing through it. RE4 will always be my favorite in the series though!

Playtime: 10 Hours (Main game plus Maria Scenario)
Score: 10/10

Finally finished this game for the first time which was long overdue! I have played this game in the past but this is my first time finishing it properly. I have always been a big fan of the Silent Hill games, as I finished 3, a few years ago and always watched my parents play it when I was younger. I just love Silent Hill as a setting and the aesthetics always set it apart from other survival horror games like Resident Evil, even though the gameplay loop can be a little bit similar.

Silent Hill 2 is its own stand alone story in the original trilogy as you play as James Sunderland who comes to Silent Hill, after receiving a letter from his dead wife to come find her in their "special place". Right from the opening scene this game just gives off a creepy atmosphere that I absolutely love! The story as well is very emotional but satisfying to see through to the end and I'm still processing how I feel on it. There are also multiple endings which makes the game highly replayable. The side characters you meet like Maria, Eddie, Laura etc... are also awesome and they can make the cut scenes very enjoyable to watch.

Gameplay wise, its your classic survival horror gameplay with tank controls, which I didn't find too cumbersome to deal with but that depends from person to person in what type of controls they like. You have to solve puzzles with items you pick up and you get a range of melee weapons and guns. Usually its best to save your ammo for the bosses, but I always seem to have a big surplus of ammo at the end of these games, even on a first playthrough, where you can't turn on bullet multipliers yet, which increase how much ammo you find. You also get some cool unlockable weapons in new game plus like a chainsaw which is very fun to use. Overall though combat was nothing to write home about but I found it very useable. The puzzles were fun as well, some head scratchers and were definitely more well thought out compared to puzzles in more modern games.

As for voice over work, in the HD Collection version, which is what I played, you can pick between the new voice acting or the old. I personally picked and prefer the new ones, as they were well acted and made some of the scenes feel more impactful, but that is just my personal preference.

As I said there are multiple endings and there's the Maria scenario you can play through. It took me about an hour to get through it on my first time playing. It was a fun little add on story to the main game, and it made me love Maria as a character more and I already did!

Overall, this game is a masterpiece really and there isn't much I can fault with it. Only real complaint I had was the music that plays during the cut scenes can be very loud at times, and plays in a constant loop during the longer scenes, which can get annoying. I fixed this by turning subtitles on and also lowering the music volume in the options menu. But other then that, there is not really much I can fault. Trying to play these old Silent Hill games can be hard these days with Konami not caring about this franchise. Unless you have an old PS2 and the old game, I'd recommend picking up the HD collection for PS3 or Xbox 360.

One of the best horror games ever and my second favorite in the Silent Hill franchise. This was the first Silent Hill game I beat as I was drawn to Heather as a protagonist the most as a teen and some of the creepy imagery with the pink bunny mascot. While Silent Hill 2 is my favorite overall, this one is still fantastic and continues the story from the first game.

Heather starts as a scared girl, but by the end she's a badass bitch who takes no ones shit! Gameplay is the same from previous games. I honestly don't mind it but I can understand why some may not be into it. Hoping this game gets a remake after 2. The soundtrack is amazing and what I love most is the art direction. The environments morph a lot with you having travel between 2 worlds and I always loved the mechanic of a door being locked in the real world, so you have to go to the scary and more hostile other world to get inside the room!

Was free on PS Plus so I went into this with the intention of getting the platinum trophy which was my first mistake.

To start with the good: the combat is fantastic as it's basically taken straight out of the Batman Arkham games, with your character being able to take on multiple enemies with a counter button if enemies attack from behind. I like the weapons (although they are limited) and the skill trees are pretty well laid out.

Now onto the bad; this game's main issue is its repetitive nature. The story is designed to be played multiple times as it has that groundhog day like structure. The problem it is it didn't work for the limited gameplay on offer. There are only 4 swords to collect to which you can upgrade to level 2 maximum and then that's it. You must collect crafting materials to do this but after about 2 hours, you would have maxed out the weapons rendering the materials useless in a game that took me at least 15-20 hours to finish fully. The only thing you can continue to upgrade is the main character as you level up. The game is also very grindy which I will talk about more in the trophy overview section. But overall after about a few hours you would have seen and done just about everything of real merit. You unlock the ability to do the true ending after getting 4 alternate endings and to get the rest involves you running through the same looking levels and fighting the same looking enemies (to which there is an okay variety) over and over. I would not really recommend this unless you had ps plus back then when it was free like I did, but even then I would recommend plenty of other better games.

Trophy Overview:
The game is very grindy like I mentioned earlier and that mainly is because of the "Sword Fu Master" trophy, which requires you to buy every upgrade in the skill trees. The problem is that even after getting all the games 25 endings, your character will probably not be anywhere near the level required to have enough skill points to buy everything. What I ended up doing was going to the last level in the game; kill all the enemies; when the final cut scene starts to play and the autosave icon vanishes, immediately close application; come back where you will start at the beginning of the level again, but you will keep all the XP you got in your last run of the level. Rinse repeat this until you have enough XP. I had to do it close to 20-25 times!

I have been a fan of the Ratchet & Clank series ever since the original game on PS2! I have played almost every game in the series (except for Q-Force), but this game sadly didn't live up to the legacy of my favourite video game franchise of all time!

To start with the good: the graphics in this game are eye dropping, as they fully take advantage of the PS4! Seeing these levels I remember so fondly from my childhood are recreated beautifully here! Every time I would land on a planet and I stepped out of my ship I'd take a screenshot as I stood in awe! The gameplay overall is true to the original and is still fun to play through.

Now onto the bad as this game frustrated me a lot! The gameplay while true to the original is so bare-bones and lazy. The first game was clunky but they improved on it and added plenty of new features with each new game. The problem here is they stripped most of that innovation away to deliver a pretty basic R&C game, to which I expected way more with this being a PS4 title! I just kept asking myself: where is the multiple armour sets to buy for Ratchet? Where is the semi-free roam ship travel from a Crack in Time? I expected that could have been expanded on greatly with the PS4 hardware! Gameplay features aside, the story is very lacklustre as they ruin Drek, a villain who in the original was a sleazy corporate stooge who was willing to destroy entire planets just to turn a profit. Here he has pushed aside for Dr Nefarious, who has already had plenty of games to be fleshed out. I'd understand if they used Nefarious in a sequel but he didn't need to be in this one. Ratchet is also very 2 dimensional here, as he doesn't go through a good arc like he did in the original to be a real hero. The original had Ratchet & Clank clash with each other throughout until they eventually became friends in the end, but here they are BFFs from the get go, which is a hell of a lot less interesting. They also ripped out most of the iconic music from the original and replaced it with generic heroic themes. I would of prefered it if they remixed the original soundtrack instead. Overall this is an okay entry that I can see newcomers liking more, but the old fans may be disappointed here!

While this is considered the black sheep of the Bioshock series, this is honestly my favourite in the series! Unlike many who probably played the first or Infinite, this was my first Bioshock game I ever played and it's the one I've replayed the most, to be honest. The combat and shooting are the best of the three games for me, as I felt it was the most refined, by improving on the first games combat but not going full out FPS action like Infinite. I've had yet to play the game with a better dual-wielding system as you can have a gun in one hand and a plasmid in the other. I honesty need nothing else!

While the story may not have the mind-blowing twist the first game had, the game does have a good story about parenthood and the relationship between parent and child. Rapture is probably one of the best settings in any video game ever, as it just oozes with atmosphere and I never get bored of exploring it! Overall, I'm a massive fan of this game and it's damn near perfect for me! Highly recommend it!
