I think outside of Half-Life: Alyx, this is the best VR game so far. Believe me, I think that's just as weird as you do. A Walking Dead spin-off should not be the most compelling VR experience you can buy but it really is.

This is actually my second full playthrough, originally on the HTC Vive and this time on a Meta Quest 2 and both runs have been fantastic experiences. Great combat, a fun gameplay loop of exploring and looting materials to craft and upgrade better gear, and a really engaging story that offers a surprising amount of room for roleplaying. It's fantastic. Hits just the right spot between 'too scary for me' and 'exactly scary enough' too.

Really clever mix of Slay The Spire style deckbuilding and a word-building game like Scrabble. Outside of not using the crank for much, it's a perfect playdate game. It's really tough, but feels fair.

I've only put in a handful of hours, but I feel like it's a real shame this game seems so unnoticed by the larger gaming space. Tower Unite fills a similar niche to games like VRChat but it does it with all these highly polished minigames and coop experiences that are really fun. For how cheap this game is, you're functionally getting a social hub, a full Super Monkey Ball game, a great arena shooter, a full arcade simulator, a full casino simulaor, a full mini-golf game, and tons of more compact but still very worthwhile games. It's really cool. It reminds me of spending time of websites like Club Penguin or Neopets back in the day. Going between talking to random people to playing minigames and buying stuff to customize my space. It's nostalgic. Highly recommend.

Gameplay-wise it lives up as a worthwhile Valve-quality new entre in the Portal franchise. It felt really good to be playing high quality test chambers again and getting to see a few mechanics that were scrapped from Portal 2 fully realized was cool.

Narratively? Very disappointing. Almost a beat-for-beat retread of Portal 2 with weaker characters. It introduces cool ideas with lots of potential and doesn't really do anything with them, and then ends on a miserable anti-climax. Huge bummer that really soured this in my mind.

I still think it's worth your time if you're a fan of Portal, especially considering it's free.

Great premise, okay execution. One of the more charming Playdate Season games. A really cool twist on usual grid-based battle games with a cool use of the crank. Just feels like it isn't very fleshed out and you can run through all the content in no time, especially once you buy the ridiculously strong video camera option. Fun though.

Grew up playing the original Flash versions of Adventure Quest games and found this really nostalgic. It's a bare-bones super simple MMO that asks for absolutely no money from you and can be crossplayed reliably on pretty much any PC or your phone while taking up almost no hard drive space. I think it's honestly kind of underrated for that. There's nothing mechanically special about it, but it does the job fine.

Technically this is only a review of the Overcooked 1 content as me and my girlfriend finished the original version of 2 before rolling back to this to play the original game and the DLCs. This collection is fantastic and absolutely what you should buy if you're interested in playing Overcooked.

Switch port did experience a few stages with notable slowdowns that made the already hectic gameplay kind of annoying, but it happened in maybe 2 stages out of the 60 or so we probably cleared. Still worth picking up.

Game is fun to play and looks great, but is really lacking in actual content unfortunately. Disappointed to find the game is only made of randomly generated stages rather than anything actually designed, and also doesn't seem to have that many random 'chunks' to actually build those stages out of. You really quickly see everything there is to see and run out of collectables in no time.

I think the game had enough mechanically going on they could have made a 1-2 hour campaign of quick levels that progressed in difficulty and this whole game would have been a lot more worthwhile. It's okay.

Heard these games ruin friendships, but my girlfriend at random decided she wanted to try it with me. Had to take the risk.

Honestly? I see how this could ruin friendships but it ended up being a great experience with her. Maybe a sign our relationship is really good so that's nice. The game itself is really charming and fun and a great co-op experience. Switch port was solid too. Hope the devs put out a third.

It's pretty simple but it's also very charming and FREE! I had a good time with it, and the endless mode you unlock after completing it is still pretty fun. The ending was really cute too. I think this is a great time and a great use of the Playdate's crank too.

Wouldn't be a good mobile device without a snake clone, and hey it's got a neat twist on the usual formula. I do wish the snake didn't start super long for some reason. Otherwise yeah, it's a snake varient. It's fine.

2022

Every mobile device needs a breakout clone, and here's the Playdate's. It's got a neat twist on the usual formula and seems to have a decent amount of content. It's fine.

Finally won a run (on easy) so I'm counting that as complete although I'll likely keep picking this up for more runs.

Very smartly designed rougelite with an insane amount of unlockable content, and a very appreciated 'unlock everything' button for when you just wanna skip the progression AND you can undo it too. Gameplay is challenging and gets your brain working. Great as a mobile game and super cheap too.

Pretty straightforward fun arcade game. The crank controls make it feel really fun to control. Makes a great pick up and play game for the Playdate. Apparently this is a port?? Not used to that for playdate, kinda neat. Might check out what the other versions are like.

A neat concept. Ended with a high score of Level 84 after looping on the final zone a couple times, so I'd call that complete. It's engaging and visually well presented, and figuring out the puzzle of how to beat the crow bosses was fun.
