doubtless this is the game that extracted the most liquid from me. of course joel's death shocked me into a blubbering mess, i cried at like 3 other character deaths, the final fight was hard just because i couldn't see through tears, and then the final conversation between joel and ellie made me cry through the entire credits, leaving me a dried out husk, like spongebob in that episode where he goes into sandy's dome. nice game.

immorta revealing vorkken's backstory, and approximately every other minute during the last 90 minutes because it's the best thing ever put into a video game

mission 43 shining lights even in death, and also i had a real moment walking around mother base like 4 years after this came out, reflecting on how much it means to me and what it says about identity and purpose and meaning. unfinished game tho so i'm sure it sucks

the true ending, particularly the shot of yumetaro standing in the light of the doorway... like, that little green mfer actually went all that way to save that girl. it's enough to make a grown man cry, assuming he has sufficient knowledge of relatively obscure nes games.

james' realisation of what happened to his wife, and particularly the final reading of mary's letter during the leave ending.

on one of my many replays i tried to fully immerse myself into it as if i were there and it were my first time playing. it really affected me how fucked up and desperate the world is. the intro to this game is just a masterclass of worldbuilding. then i got a crowbar and instantly went into "i've done this 50 times" gameplay mode

the boss' last cutscene and boss fight, and of course the ending.

the entire ending sequence from final boss to credits. this game really made me care about a guy who was the blandest man ever in the first one

microwave corridor and multiple points during the ending movie marathon, particularly in the cemetary

going to the cave of the past, and everything after giygas really got to me.
