“Why did you leave a section blank? For the future.”
Wow what a video game my time I spent playing penitent is one I won’t forget for a while this game is absolutely amazing even though I had my ups and downs and sometimes tortures sections of the game it doesn’t make me put this any lower
Act 1
The first act pentiment is one of the strongest starts to a video game I have ever seen the utter scale of this game is downright ridiculous down to every character having there own unique handwriting each individual character has there own opinion of others and different views of the catholic faith, the way they hook you and develop the town of tassing as a whole was unbelievably well done now with the main character Andreas who immediately got me interested in his character and the first murder of the town which really got me hooked into this game the game emphasizes the power of choice and free will that one action Andreas makes in act 1 can completely change the story and how certain characters view you in act 2 n 3. Act 1 paces itself perfectly with developing the characters world and the murder mystery itself even thought you only have 2 days it still feels like you can gather enough evidence on all suspects that it’s hard to really deduce who actually had committed the crime and with the conclusion of act 1 only had me wanting more.
Act 2
The second act of pentiment althought I think is the weakest act in the game contrary to what everyone thinks still is a very solid part of the game Act 2 immediately starts with Andreas returning to casing after about 7 years and you see the consequence of the whoever you believed was the murders death. And act 2 catches your attention quickly with another murder happening right off the jump and Andreas is left with only 1 day to solve this specific murder while I do think this act starts off very strong for about 80% of it I just don’t feel like this mystery of suspects were even as half as interesting as the first acts suspects and it doesn’t help that this act was very obviously rushed in its ending which honestly was a very disappointing ending to Act 2 so I won’t speak on all my complaints about this act.
Act 3
The third act of pentiment while I do believe is downright boring is still the best act in the game simply for its story telling to start off act 3 they place you as a new main character which threw me off and I didn’t care about her at all in the slightest and learning about the towns history really wasn’t what I had been expecting or wanted but it was a necessary part to have and ended up being the best decision they could have done atleast 90% of this act doesn’t make sense or interest you until you get to the last section where it all makes sense (who was behind the murders) all the lies and deceptions that went into the town of tassing really suprised me and the plot twist has me in disbelief and I couldn’t forget how genius the ending to this game was this is a game everyone should play
This was pretty rushed so I did leave a lot out of this such as going more in depth about the characters tassing and the suspects

“Does every act of kindness need a reason”
Burnhouse Lane is a game that caught me heavily by surprise I had bought it on a whim and always put it aside but this game blew my expectations out the water. Burnhouse Lane goes into the story of a Young woman named Angie who’s grieving the loss of her husband who was a victim to cancer which throws her down a spiral in her life until she gets told she’s been diagnosed with lung cancer in its late stages and has 6 months left to live her life and she scrambles the remainder of her life searching for a purpose which leads her to a farm as a nurse for an old man named George who she will take care of for the remainder of her life.
The game immediately hooks you in within the first 20 minutes within the plot, Music, and art direction this game went towards and the narrative of this game is what really shocked me for a game that had such a low budget. Burnhouse lane portrays its themes such as unconditional love, Living without purpose and overcoming the fear of death surprisingly well. The first 4 chapters of this game weren’t anything special but chapter 5 onward made me really love this game and what it stands for. The whole concept of the area of Burnhouse lane was absolutely fantastic and the endings to this game were really well done and melancholic my only gripe with this game is that the first 4 tasks don’t really have any correlation to the plot or characters but the fifth task makes up for it. overall this game is a criminally underrated game more people should check out.
