Been a few years so I'd wanted to go back to it, still really fun! Endlessly charming, whether it be thru something blatantly apparent like the music or fun enemy designs, or more subtle things like the little nuances you notice if you deviate from the "enemy weakness on boss -> next enemy weakness" pattern (i.e. level design changes, fun weapon interactions w/ certain bosses etc).

There are some performance related issues that bring it down for me, I played this on Switch so input delay was guaranteed, but the game also has a ton of inherent slowdown when the room is overwhelmed with enemies and their effects, and that just isn't fun. Said slowdown can also hamper platforming, and in general I found trying to go about the platform-heavy sections w/ any bit of precision to be not super crisp? It's smaller nuisances, but I'd definitely feel them at times.

Regardless, strong evolution on classic Mega Man, can't imagine going back to before when you don't have dashes and a stronger Buster. Good!

Only very small gripes stop me from giving it a 9 or higher--wish it was slightly harder (not tedious), would've preferred a tighter package (perhaps combine B and C routes?), and the Kaine segment at the end could've gone a bit longer. Otherwise, fantastic package that I'd recommend to nearly anyone!

I know it's weird to have this lower than DOOM (2016), but bear with me. A good amount of the reasons why it isn't higher isn't even really the game's fault--I had it hyped up as "blowing [2016] out of the water", performance issues which are surely rectified on PS5, novelty and freshness that I felt throughout 2016 is obviously diminished, for all I know if this was my first DOOM and I played it on PS5 it'd be a 9. Instead, we're here. Beyond that, I like the idea of the faster pace (and I even enjoy it in regular playtime) but in more hectic rooms it's just so easy to have the FPS chug (or even skip?) and get blindsided or even totally trapped by a barrage of enemies. I also find the speed of the game to be pretty inconsistent as well. The selling point is how fast-paced it can get, but why is there such a pronounced cooldown timer on the Meat Hook? Why do I have to traverse in bog-like areas where you can't jump or dash effectively? Why is it easy to lose inputs like jumps when you're on hazardous terrain like fire floors? Both in direction and performance I find it pales in comparison to 2016, but despite everything I said it's still fuckin DOOM at the end of the day so you can only complain so much (despite my efforts). Good game
