I feel the same way about this game that I feel about Fallout 4. From a pure roleplay/story perspective it is quite lacking and I feel like it could have been so much more, but the game as a whole is still fun and I don't regret my time with it.

This is a weird one because there's nothing inherently wrong with the game that I can point out it just couldn't keep me hooked. I can't bring myself to rate it any lower though.

I unfortunately spent over 1000 hours on this game before it EOS'd and even to this day I have way too many mixed feelings about the entire experience. If I were to summarize, it had the skeleton of a truly amazing game, but was bogged down by a lot of issues that ranged from mildly inconvenient to completely game ruining. Main issues being terrible UI, questionable balance decisions, lack of anything resembling a decent matchmaking system (although to be fair, when the playerbase bled out so quickly, that one was kind of unfixable), and optimization issues that made certain maps unplayable for many users. That being said, I obviously enjoyed the game enough to stick through all of that, but could I call it a good game? Probably not.
As my first game of the franchise this was a solid introduction. Although I often felt like the game was almost embarrassed by itself and refused to take itself even somewhat seriously. Humor was mostly fine but when it flopped it flopped really bad. Still, goofy fun but not really the most memorable experience.

I spent more time than I want to admit as a kid grinding out insane mode clears on multiple characters. Fun game, especially with friends.

It really says something when the series was unironically better WITH Anthony Burch than without him.
Could have been something amazing but the game is sadly unfinished. Still good though.
The best part about this game is the sandbox, everything else is either mid or sucks. I still had a decent amount of fun playing it though.
Awakening but with more degenerate cringe and a worse but funnier story
Best of the 3ds era, although that is a very low bar.
I really wanted to like this game more, but swamp maps.
