30 Day VG Music Challenge

Started 7th March 2024
Grabbed from : https://backloggd.com/u/NOWITSREYNTIME17/list/30-day-vgm-challenge/
But by the end of this it definitely became a trend

Thought I'd give it a go as I've wanted to try make some music play lists and thought this would give me inspiration. I saw a lot of people ignoring the premise to make a quicklist and that was tempting just to stay in the zeitgeist but I persisted and didn't get to ahead of myself

Tested, and pretty good

7th March: Title Screen Music
Absolute Banger from an under-appreciated game
8th March: Opening Level
You know from the very getgo the type of game your getting into
9th March: 8-bit Music
I don't remember where I first heard this song but I remember what it's from vividly
10th March: Music From a Console Exclusive
No surprise a capcom fighting game has some classics
11th March: Hubworld or Overworld Music
Sometimes choosing a GOAT candidate is the best choice
12th March: Music that makes me feel relaxed
I appreciate that Ys VI is the most beloved game in the franchise, but it has some exceedingly good archipeleago songs
13th March: Indie Game
The soundtrack excels in this game with a great mix up high tempo chiptunes and sax. making this my goto roguelike
14th March: Music from a Shooter
With the topic of shooters, my mind immediately went to timesplitters and even though I wanted to pick the Nightclub. Mexican Village is iconic.
15th March: Music from a Licensed game
The Ghost in the Shell Soundtrack is insane. Feels like im in a club in the 90s
16th March: RPG Battle Music
Resonance of Fate always creeps into the back of my head whispering in my ear to go back to it. Metal and Excentricity are two peas in a pod
17th March: Puzzle Game
Escape Goat has been in my playlist since it's dawn. It is the underdog of my playlist and it holds up everytime it's played. Never skipped. Itholds power beyond it's scope
18th March: Music the makes you sad
No Comment Necessary
19th March: Song you like from game you hate
I specifically finished the game due to this song. Even better is that a lot of the soundtrack is awful and sometimes even painful
20th March: Music with Vocals
Took me a bit of time to pick one of these because I wanted to find something that maybe doesn't get the love it deserved and then I remembered a series that has amazing vocals that I too haven't given a chance. A forever reminder that I need to get back to this series
21st March: Boss Battle Music
La Mulana is basically an entire boss battle as a game so it seems fitting to add it here. There are no other games quite like La Mulana and the music certainly keeps you wanting to explore. The boss music being no exception
22nd March: 16-bit music
After checking PC Engine was 16 bit there was a wide range of songs to include and although Ys came the my mind immediately, I already have an Ys pick so I just played my playlist until I hit something that stood out. This is what I got. Fitting with the switch announcement
23rd March: Music that never gets old
I'm not as lukewarm on Astral chain as others but there was always a desire to hang out at base longer then needed to bop my shoulders to this song
24th March: Music from Games from the Year you were born
I'm old, be distracted by a banger.
25th March: Cover of Music by other artist, cover of this
I've been trying to avoid obvious choices since this is a good way to share music. This is a two-in-one choice. A gameboy game with suprisingly good music that has a metal cover in a fighting game that elects to allow you to play as the cutesy rabbit.
26th March: Racing Game
Picking a game to highlight was easy, picking which of the racing tracks for this game was harder. So I basically just picked at random. City, Stadium and Island are all great and deserve to be on any high tempo playlists.
28th March: Town/City Music
A song that soothed my soul as a kid. The dangers of the digimon world and the worry of impending death disappeared when you came to say hello to those you rescued and grab some meat. Except for the rare occasions where old age caught you or a digimon decided to invade
29th March: Underrated Music
I hear people saying this soundtrack is good but I don't think it gets the credit it deserves. Its extremely good. While people were touting Tunic, Death's Door ended up being a way better experience in my eyes and it's superb soundtrack needs more celebration
30th March: Music that's always stuck in your head
I hate how this will never leave my empty brain until the day I die

25

31st March Music the Gets you Pumped
Sometimes you just playing a game and all of a sudden everything just goes hard. To say this is the best song in the soundtrack is high praise from the getgo but it fits extremely well with the vibes of the fight as well as the fight being a standout in a game about 1 on 1 fights. Everything about this fight elevated my opinion of the game as whole and this song is a important factor. Also the song to break my rules of VG music in my standard playlists as there's no shot this shouldn't be on any excercise playlist
1st April: Music you like from Games you've never played
Since this wasn't released outside of Japan and emulates poorly. Best I can do is bob my head to the music
2nd March: Handheld music
I really liked Pokemon Mystery Dungeon when I was younger but kind of overlooked it as a pokemon spin-off. Like, of course I like it. It's pokemon. I vividly remember a point in this dungeon where I realized that I was looking down on the game. This was truly a great experience and I just thought to myself "what a great game" and it kind of got me emotional. Kind of felt like I was discriminating against it. I have to assume it was this song that managed to bypass my de-sensitive teenage years
3rd April: Music that makes you nostalgic
I don't expect this will be very well known. I picked it because even though I completely forgot the game, this song never quite left me. It was only as an adult that I put effort into tracking it down and finally found the source. All I remember was this song and a lighthouse. This led me to find more games from my childhood I completely forgot about. Such as Magic Boy and Spooky Castle. There are still some images in my brain that I haven't found the source to but my search continues on
4th April: Final Boss Music
Nowadays there's a bit of a backlash on Platinum Games but man they hit the floor running. Whilst Bayonetta gets the credit (it deserves a lot because it's great), Madworld feels underrated at this point. What a blast
5th April: Credits Music
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Enjoy Ape Escape and Rate the game 5 stars as it deserves.
