The gameplay is great, the characters are great like in Remake part 1, but the game completely falls apart at the back half when the story becomes even more of a mess than part 1. The game once again has a bloated, far too long final dungeon and a complete mess of a reinterpretation of the events at the Forgotten Capital. Even the final boss of the game is too long.
I will never not be irritated at this "remake" series being a bloated and bad sequel to the original game. Seriously, play the original FFVII. Oh well.

This version specifically is far inferior to the original. The original Majora's Mask is a well-woven and memorable experience. This remake is the opposite of the Ocarina of Time 3DS remake--while that game made the effort to retain bugs and the like from the N64 game to stay absurdly faithful, this version of Majora's Mask needlessly changes mechanics that all around sour the experience. Skip this one; play the original.
This game is flawed and I think the artstyle is still divisive to this day, but I really love it. One of the comfiest, most charming games on the GameCube.
