This being the third time replaying the game and also having played the original, now I can see a lot of filler story beats unlike before. But damm that extra stuff really works and isn't that annoying, as filler usually is. The gameplay is super fun, the charaters are all charming and the story is really well told.
Fantasic game, platinumed it again and I had a great time doing it.

Gameplay and story are both very basic, but by god is this game fun. Coolness factor is over the moon, and the level design with its atmospheric gothic environments is incredibly well crafted. No other game in the series reaches this level of elegance for its missions.

This is what peak gaming looks like

Before didn't understand what all the fuss was about this game, just because the game is hard and forces you to engage with it, it doesn't mean it's good. It couldn't be that prasie wothry, right?
Well, now after completing it in its entirety I have been enlightened. This game and its unbelievably excellent gameplay loop is the absolute best of the modern videogame industry. Everything works to perfection, the combat, the world, the lore, the challenge, everything offers the highest quality experience a videogame can offer. (Maybe that's why the rest of Fromsoftware games are copies with little spicy elements to change things up a bit).

2022

Playing it again on the PS5 felt like a different experience from my first playthrough in 2020 on the PS4, game is fucking awesome now. Mainly because I got immersed in the story more thanks to that smooth performance, by ignoring most of the useless videogame fetch quests (NCPD gigs), and by having a mental picture of the whole story while things were happening. Thanks to all these things I understood the story way better this time and in term the game.
Phantom Liberty also helped tremendously with this improved version, especially the new ending.

Sam Lake who created Max Payne, then wrote a story were he created Alan Wake who wrote a story were he created Alex Casey (Max Payne) that was actually created by a poem by Thomas Zane. Then Sam Lake wrote another story were Alan Wake tries to write a story about Alex Casey who was created in a film by Thomas Zane written by Scratch/Alan Wake, so that Alan Wake can defeat Scratch/Alan Wake.

So then, Sam Lake is Max Payne and or Alex Casey. And Alan Wake is Thomas Zane and Scratch but also Sam Lake.

Did I get it right? Probably not

Fantastic narrative game tho very creative with an exclusively banger soundtrack

Nier Replicant has one of the strongest storytelling narratives the video game medium has ever produced, surpassed only by its sequel, Nier Automata, and a few worthy others.
But for me, Sadly this game is held back from masterpiece status by its repetitive nature. The gameplay is not bad, I even say its pretty good, but in the amount of time this game takes to complete, it offers very little in the way of gameplay progression. The combat and exploration stays the same after the first hour with no new twists or mechanics. Sure, some sections spice things up with fun new camera angles and perspective changes, but thats it, the core loop remains unchanged. This is not a big deal for the most part, but to get to the tasty part of the story you are forced to replay almost the entire game like several times, at which point it does becomes a big hindrance to the experience. The music is sorrowly fantastic but it also suffers from the repetition problem since there aren't many tracks or variations of the ones that are there.

All in all a very stale game but also a special one.

Literally the best PS5 exclusive

Kratos goes to therapy (he beats the shit out of dosens of enemies)

The game is a very competently put together Fallout style game but in space. With a well crafted world and an ok story, the thing is, it doesn't excel in any area, it's all just decent.

The higher frames and visual fidelity does make the game look prettier, but unfortunately the new lighting system makes it look like ass at various points, especially the characters faces, which sucks.

This new edition could have been an upgrade from the regular game since it has 2 decent expansions added to the base game, but the lighting issue puts a big but in the equation.
