its really funny how almost every detractor of modern kirby I've seen hasn't played this game lol

im marathoning kirby because i have no fucking life goals to fulfill and this series is the only ray of light i can still grab onto before i lose my sanity

that being said this game fucks in a way triple deluxe can only dream of and (popular opinion) this is possibly one of the most enjoyable and remarkable kirby game in the entire series and im saying this even if i go for and will always go for kirby return to dreamland over everything and possibly prefer forgotten land but this was a damn good time

this plays as every damn kirby game since the dawn of time BUT with everything good introduced in triple deluxe plus 300% and it works beautifully . 3d environments and mechanics look amazing and make for some top notch platforming . every copy abilities ever is basically here (even tho water was switched for Poison™ but i just imagine its because the whole point of the game is technology polluting popstar so even copy abilities and therefore enemies arent exempt from all this) and the MECHA OOOOOOOOOF THE FUCKING MECHA

im not a mecha enthusiast but i was damn close to become one after playing this because its so fucking good to use it and experiment with its new copy abilities and what not and since the game is basically centered around this new mechanic you better like it

anyway i enjoyed the characters quite a bit and also meta knight ʕ♡ᴥ♡ʔ is here so its absolutely required for me to love this game and the final fucking boss fight oh god ive never played starfox but thats probably the closest i will ever get to playing that series i mean its not magolor or fecto elfilis but its a fine ass boss fight nonetheless and the music is a banger in this one too but basically its impossible for a kirby game to have ugly OSTs like its a universal law or something

anyway i said everything i already said in every other kirby review so i will just go back to watch my cute little pink son play around with his mecha toy a little bit more because he deserves everything good in this world

omg mobile suit kirby

Robobot's opening sequence is probably the best in the history of the series: it shows Pop Star as it always has been, and all of its character living a normal live... and then Haltman's ship appears. In seconds, Dedede and Meta Knight, two of the most prominent and strong charcters in all of star shaped planet, are completely defeated with no chance of retaliating, with Dedede's castle and Meta Knight's airship reduced to ruble or incapable or fighting back, and later down the game, both of the characters will be weponaized by the company as unnatural constructs. Haltman's army destructive and quick, and they terraform the planet into a mechanical mess into a matter of minutes: the game just started and they just basically won, and as soon as Kirby finall wakes up from its dream, the quest to undo this disaster begins; it's a fantasic opening that sets everyhting that has yet come, and what has yet to come, it's probably the best 2D Kirby game ever.

The fact this is running in the 3DS feel unreal, not so much because it's visually that impressive, but becasue of the amount of set pieces and things the game does. The level design, both in a gameplay in visual sense, it's just otherworldy, every level feels special and distinct, each world doing something completely different with its mechanical themes, and even if there are some level themes that repeat across worlds, like the towers, everytime they put a new spin on it. Its the cohesion that makes the difference, past games limited themselves with only a theme with each world (in some cases) and even Triple Deluxe, that had a pretty cool nature theme, it felt jarring when the level design felt artificial or when something mechanical appeared. In Robobot however, the artificiality in some of the design not only makes sense given the context, but adds to the experience and story; it shows how much Haltman has ruined this planet, and it can keep doing show, and for that it must be stoped... but the music can stay, this shit fucking SLAPS.

The boss fights are an absolute show stopper, super fun and creative; tho almost all are characters returning from past games, but from Whispy Woods to Dedede, all of them have a terryifiying and perversed twist, they are completely changed from what they were once were, it horryfiying, but characters like Susie or Haltman rebel in this, celebrate it, and it's even scarier. Here, the true colors of this tyranical company shine, and its represented with the music masterfully.

...oh don't tell me you thought I forgot about the Robobt? Not only it makes thematical sense, but holy shit is it BY FAR the best 'mechanical (heh, get it?...I'm so sorry) novelty implemented in any of the series, but it almost makes me sad that it doesn't seem to be returning any time soon, 'cause this shit slaps. Everytime it appears is not an ''oh, this thing,ok'' moment, it's an ''OH HECK YEAH'' one: the puzzles, the boss fights and the set pieces are all espectacular, and the way the copy abilites adapt to it are incredible, Bomb is one of my least favourite copy-abilities, but the Robobot version is just... chef kiss.

When the credits started rolling, I just felt so happy, the finale wass amazing and an incredible send off to the story, but more than anything, I was happy that this game existed, it represents the culmination of the saga in so many ways: it's the most creative one, it's the one that has more things to tell, the brand new charachters are really charismatic and I'm glad they stayed in the saga's mythos, the lore is really sad and tragic, but doesn't make the villain less evil... I just can't belive this is real Kirby game. I don't know if its my favourite one (Forfotten Land is just too fucking amazing man) but this is just so special, a love letter in some many ways, and I belive its earned to call it the best 2D Kirby game, and one of the best 2D platformers ever made, what a fucking treat!

It's your standard Kirby game with really nice graphics and satisfying copy abilities. Grinding for stickers for the UFO powerup (as the true 100%) is a little annoying, but that's generally a minor complaint since the base game is pretty good. Bonus points for the final boss, it really reminded me of the Kirby 64 final boss in a good way. Only other minor complaint is that the dash attack for most copy abilities comes out too often when I'm trying to do other attacks (maybe the controls are too sensitive?) which can make fighting some bosses a bit annoying, but regardless of this, Robobot is definitely one of the best Kirby games out there.

Probably my favorite Kirby game that I’ve played so far. It is a nice relaxing time, like all Kirby games. I found most of the copy abilities fun and a good amount were useful. The star of this game is your robot mech suit and the fact that it to can copy abilities. If you are looking for an easy game for a relaxing time this would be a very nice choice.

The best title in the series for me. The main gimmick - the suit of armor - is very fun to use since you get to give it abilities too! And the parts where you use it are mixed into the levels in a way that doesn't ruin them. Also great OST.

I can't help but feel like this game is just setting me up for disappointment. This is the 8th Kirby title I've played, and after not really loving the others (and downright hating a couple), this game was a breath of fresh air. In a somewhat ironic twist, I wasn't even aware of this game's existence until a couple of weeks ago when I watched a couple of Kirby series rankings videos on Youtube — both of which placed this at #1. Well, that settled it. I had to try this one next.

And yeah, it's pretty great. The whole mech-suit gimmick is actually pretty well-utilized and makes controlling Kirby an absolute blast. I especially loved the stages that turn into a side-scrolling space shooter section. Oh! And the stages where your mech transforms into a car and you can speed through it. There's just a lot of creativity going on here which I adore. And I know that's not necessarily exclusive to this game. Even with the early titles, there was indeed some noticeable thought going into the level design. This is just the first time I play a Kirby game where that creativity feels fully realized and in-sync with an enjoyable gameplay experience.

But as I said earlier, I can't help but feel like I'm being set up for disappointment; because if this is truly the peak of the franchise, then I may be hard-pressed to ever really consider myself a Kirby fan. It only took me about 5 hours to get through the game casually. It certainly doesn't overstay its welcome, but I was left wanting a bit more. But that may just be a "me" problem due to the sheer amount of 2D platformers I've played over the years. At the end of the day, this is just a really solid "pick up and play" kind of game and nothing more, but that's to be expected of the series (and Nintendo 2D platformers in general for that matter). I'll be sure to check out the bonus sub-game "Meta Knightmare Returns" at a later date. In the meantime, I do hope I wasn't spoiled and that I can come across plenty of more games in this franchise of similar quality or better.

The Kirby title that best encapsulates the current "era" of the franchise, and the proof that Kirby doesn't need a game directed by Masahiro Sakurai to have an all-time classic.

Super Star/Ultra may be more infinitely replayable, but the setpieces and mechanics this title introduces, with the Robobot armour effectively giving you access to a group of new copy abilities, cannot be understated - it takes previous attempts to shake up the formula like Hypernova and makes them into the basis for entire levels- rather than setpieces at the end of one for the sake of it.

Not that this game is somehow light on setpieces, with many stages using the 3D effect of the 3DS well, and the entire final act of the game feeling like some high octane mecha anime that Gainax would produce in their prime.

I'm sure this team can produce something new of comparable quality in the future, and I'm looking forward to it, even if it's just another game using the Robobot Armour.

It's actually insane how much this baby game slaps. Piloting the robot is cool, exploring the levels is cool, most of the fights are cool minus the final boss being a completely new moveset. I can highly recommend

This game means so, so much to me. I consider this my true first Kirby experience, even if I potentially did play Super Star (and possibly even Adventure) before this. It was the first game in the series I finished and possibly one of the first games I ever completed 100%. I still have memories of beating The True Arena in my old apartment bedroom, couped up on the floor, exhausted from all my attempts but still persisting anyhow. Needless to say I was struck by this game in a way I hadn't really been before. I became obsessed with the series. So much so in fact that I wanted to gush my Kirby fangirlism online. And I remember watching this YouTuber named Meteorz (he'd do videos on the lore of Kirby) and hearing about Amino. Yes, my first real social media experience was on Amino. But could you blame me? I was like 11 at the time I had played this game (2017). Anyhow, I still have very fond memories of being on the Kirby Amino frequently. I became a semi-popular member there. Leafy was my name and the name for my Kirby OC back then. Hell, I even wrote a fanfic based on the Dark Matter trilogy on there. Of course I never finished it but I had all these crazy ambitious ideas for it... animations and voice acting and stuff... and to this day I continue to be as ambitious as 11-year-old me would be. Some things never change. Anyway, long story short, this game is literally the reason you're reading this or any of my reviews on here right now. I may consider UNDERTALE to be my favorite game ever made, but I'd be lying if I said this wasn't the most influential to me.

Thank you for a bright 7 years, Planet Robobot. May you shine on once more.

And to Kirby, for 31 years onward.

Fly! Kirby of the Stars.

I heard great things about this game before but I wasn't expecting this title to be as incredible as it is. The idea of theming an entire Kirby game around sci-fi and robots was genius. The level design is some of the best I have seen from a 2D platformer and the soundtrack is filled with all types of earworms.

I am extremely late to the party when saying this game is a must play for Kirby fans and I hope for a remaster (or even a sequel) so more people can experience this winning combination.

Great game. This game has fun levels, a great OST, and the Robobot armor is a great gimmick. I liked the Hypernova in Triple Deluxe, but the Robobot suit has way more variety since it can copy abilities just like Kirby can. The main story is a fun time, and Metaknightmare Returns was a fun way to revisit the levels. The side games are also pretty fun, although they are a bit too short, especially 3D Rumble. Overall this game is a great time and I highly recommend it.

Take every gripe I’ve had with Triple Deluxe, throw it out the window and improve upon every single aspect that that game had going for it. Seriously, Planet Robobot is an absolute masterpiece and I still can’t believe that this managed to be one of Nintendo’s absolute finest. The 3DS rarely, and I mean RARELY gets better than this at all.

Joguem!

Kirby is the round, pink life-form from Planet Popstar who possesses infinite power

the only thing missing was the Gurren Lagann opening blasting at full volume during the final boss finisher

This game goes so unexpectedly hard. I've played some Kirby games before and I always really enjoyed them but there was never a specific Kirby game that I would point to and say "oh, this one is really outstanding". Well... this one is really outstanding. It utilizes Kirby's copy ability in more increasingly creative and clever ways than any game in the series, combining it with all sorts of inventive level gimmicks in an experience that truly captures what's so great about the little guy's games. And it's overall bursting with joy, personality and irresistible imagination. My favorite Kirby game and one of the best 2D platformers I think I've ever played in general. Can't wait to play Forgotten Land eventually.

Edit: Oh boy, that last sentence did not age too well, lol.

Someone told me this game sucks. Yeah. On opposite day, dumb fuck.

I realised how much I'd love this game on the first stage of area 2, where you ran through a street while cars drove in from the background driven by Waddle Dees. I love platformers that use level themes beyond the basic "grass world, desert world, snow world, lava world" etc, and Kirby Planet Robobot does so well in this area. There's also levels that have you running through train carriages, and then on top of the train, or casinos with giant pool tables where you have to dodge giant pool balls, or in huge freezers(?) where you run along ice pops. It's all so much fun. I do think they start reusing too many ideas near the end though, especially for such a short game.

There's a lot of gimmicks in the levels that I liked a lot, my favourite being maybe the parts where you control both your Kirby in the foreground, and a robot Kirby in the background simultaneously.

I haven't played enough Kirby games to know exactly what's new and what isn't, but this game has a lot of really creative abilities, like circus, doctor and leaf. And each one has a full on moveset to utilise rather than just one or two basic actions. The robot suits are a bit more limited in their abilities - both in terms of how many they can copy and actions they can do in them - but that's fine because their main point is to be able to smash stuff that Kirby has trouble with, or pick up large items for puzzles. It also has total game style shifts when using the wheel or jet abilities.

While the story mode is short, you can get a bit more playtime out of the game via its extra modes, like "speed run the game as Meta Knight" or of course the obligatory boss rush.. My favourite is the RPG-like one where you pick a Kirby class, fight bosses with maxed out HP and get to level up after battles. I would so play a full Kirby RPG game (I realised they made a version for both 3DS and Switch but they still only have 4 classes AND have microtransactions? Gross).

i don't have the brain capacity to go into full detail on why i like this game so much but it's just really damn cool
i loved seeing what they could do with all the different copy abilities by putting it in the robot, i just really like seeing them do different things with the copy abilities
final boss went hard, music was cool, a lot of throwbacks that i can't really pin down but I know i had heard in some other way, code cubes aren't too much of a hassle to find (aside from like 2), very cool game

was not expecting to like a kirby game this much, even if i've only played like 5 of them

so right after putting out the pretty unremarkable triple deluxe, kumazaki binged the entirety of Gurren Lagann and the entire megaman x series all in one day and burst through hal laboratories' doors with a grand idea.

planet robobot is pretty much as masterful as 2d kirby gets imo. whereas rtdl and triple deluxe had issue with their main Big Shiny Power-Up gimmick being more Wait For Shit To Happen spectacle than actually fun to use, the robobot is an absolute treat to handle making you feel real fuckin powerful. think the ride armors from megaman x, the eighth game specifically - now crank that shit up to 11 and give it kirby abilities and a giga drill break. the robobot's controls especially have this real fun flow to it that makes you feel like you're piloting a force to be reckoned with crushing enemies under your foot but without feeling like a mechanical hard-to-control deadweight. on top of that the usual kirby stuff is as well done and fun as it usually is (jesus christ the new abilities are broken), and the robobot is integrated into the gameplay loop well to where it doesn't feel like a pace breaker at all. something triple deluxe wish it accomplished. I'm talkin to you hypernova.

I also wanna give a shoutout to moments like the factory level which really give off this mechanically hopeless vibe, showing how planet popstar really has been reduced to nothing but a mechanical wasteland - accentuated heavily by the return of "studying the factory" from kirby 64; a reminder of a certain snow-covered planet that shared a similar fate. atmosphere isn't something that I usually praise in a kirby game because save for the final boss they don't usually go all out on it, but planet robobot has a good amount of moments like this and I wanted to bring attention to it. dunno where to put this but give robobot's ost a listen as a whole, hands-down it is my favorite in the franchise right next to dreamland 3.

planet robobot is just a lot of fun man. and so is kirby in general, really. I'm not as crazy about kirby as I used to be mainly because I moved onto franchises with higher highs and whatnot, but it still holds a special place in my heart for just being a fun time more often than not, regardless of how simple it may be usually. robobot's kind of emblematic of that sort of vibe, or however you'd word that. it's nearly 10pm it's not the right time to be a wordsmith, I even gave up using proper capitalization in this review. but I like kirby and I wanted to talk about kirby. tis all. now get in the robobot kirby or adeleine will have to pilot it

I'll finish 64 one of these days by the way.

Final bosses with 200 phases never fail to disappoint

It's incredible that Kirby in the 2010's was pretty repetetive, yet still managed to bring out quality titles all around (even though I think Star Allies was just okay and haven't played Triple Deluxe for myself yet). This one is my favorite not only of four, but also my favorite in the series, even though I don't really have much to say about it, either that I can't come up with much or it has already been said by others.

What I can say is that a pitfall I think most Kirby games fall into, even the good ones, is that the levels of one world tend to blend themselves together, but here, the industrial setting and mecha suit help every level stand out from one another. And the final boss of the True Arena may be my favorite boss battle in any game I've played.

This is also the Kirby game were we can start saying "What were the writers smoking?"

When you think of the definitive modern Kirby game, you think of this game. Not only is its main gimick probably the best of the quadrillogy, but its levels and bosses have really great theming that binds them to the mechanical theme of the game. The new abilities introduced in this game feel like they should've been there all along. Meta Knightmare is really great and fastpaced, with excellent fanservice to past games. If you were going to play only one Kirby game for the rest of your life, this is the one you should pick.

What a joyful experience this was! One of my personal favorite rare things in video games is the moment-to-moment gameplay coming together with the aesthetics to feel "toyetic". It's hard to define, but it's got a lot to do with the mechanical and visual variety of tools given to the player and their utility in gameplay feeling satisfying. Kirby's main gimmick is already the epitome of this, but now there's also everything about the way the Robobot Armor works that enhances the feeling of happily smacking different sets of colorful action figures together, especially with that Patented Sakurai Hitstop™ in combat. I don't know if I preferred stages specifically designed around plowing through them with a certain item or ones that let you go wild with whatever you came across, but the level design and smooth linear difficulty curve made both styles very enjoyable. I'm glad I went out of my way for the Code Cubes because the frantic pace of the EX stages was such a fun step up from the standard levels, the second one in Access Ark being an incredibly cool victory lap.

Really, my only complaint is that there weren't even more forms for the Robobot because I'd have loved to see a Whip variant. Apparently ESP, Doctor and Poison were introduced in this game but only ESP has a robot form? ESP was my favorite one but they missed out on the potential to make Kirby run over enemies as a mobile hospital. Well, that, and also the final boss was a bit tedious, although this can be forgiven on the virtue of the things happening on screen in that fight being absolutely fucking sick.

I never played much of Kirby and it's crazy to think I might've missed out on this completely if I hadn't rushed to fill up my dusty 3DS with games in preparation for the eShop shutdown. This is the type of game I wish I had as a kid, but there's definitely no bad time to give it a spin. Kid me would've probably gotten stuck on like Mecha Knight or something anyway

this game's true arena is something else

It's cool and fun like RTDL, and unlike RTDL and Triple Deluxe the "gimmick" doesn't overstay it's welcome and is a joy to use every time.

Peak 2D Kirby, can't go higher than here. Solid level design, great graphics, a mechanic that actually has depth and isn't just "Press B to win," unique storyline and characters, and you get to use the Halberd to fight Nova's long-lost cousin at the end. Chef's kiss.
