I broke the gentleman’s oath and farted on the princess’s balls 10/10 game also

Sights & Sounds
- Ah, South Park. Such an identifiable look. Stick of Truth does an excellent job recreating the look and feel of the show
- That extends to the entirety of the sound design. The voice cast from the show (mostly Matt Stone and Trey Parker, admittedly) reprise their roles in the game
- All in all, it feels like you're in an episode of South Park at basically all times

Story & Vibes
- You're the new kid in South Park! Your family has moved to the town under mysterious circumstances, though it seems to be because of some strange ability you have
- This game takes inspiration from the LOTR episode in South Park, which aired during season 6, however, this game expands massively on that episode's concept. In Stick of Truth, almost every kid in the entire town is wrapped up in an LOTR-inspired LARP where the humans (led by Cartman) are trying to hold control over the titular Stick of Truth from the elves (led by Kyle). Holding the stick means controlling the universe, so be prepared to fight for it
- Of course, it's South Park, so nothing is that straightforward. It wouldn't feel right if there weren't some unusual, hilarious, or sometimes frankly gross diversions
- If you like South Park humor, you'll enjoy this game. If you don't, you won't. Simple as that. I've been watching it since I was in middle school (in the grand old days of 1999), so I've got a couple decades of nostalgia piled up in my head. Suffice it to say, I thought the game was pretty funny
- I was pretty disappointed by the kid-gloved approach to what is usually razor-wired satire. With the focus on social media in the game, there was surprisingly little social commentary. It just feels like a missed opportunity

Playability & Replayability
- Have you played at least one turn-based party RPG/JRPG in your lifetime? Good, you already know how to play Stick of Truth. Choose an attack or ability, pick an enemy, and go. Stick of Truth takes a Legend of Dragoon approach to combat, so be prepared to time button presses to increase the damage you deal out or decrease the damage you take
- Like those RPGs it draws inspiration from, you'll be collecting and managing a lot of gear to maximize your combat potential
- I certainly appreciated the various environmental puzzles that you solve mostly using your butt (or one of the other abilities that I won't spoil). The new kids farts are powerful, and you'll be using different ones to drop ladders and cause explosions to help you advance and collect hidden loot
- In all, I was a bit surprised by how easy the game was. Combat (even bosses) won't provide much challenge even on the highest difficulty. The difficulty slider, by the way, is a pretty funny joke and the only bit of biting social commentary in the game
- If you like South Park, this is worth a revisiting. I say that from experience; I played (but didn't finish) this game on Switch a few years ago

Overall Impressions & Performance
- Just to reiterate: if you like the series, you'll also enjoy this game. It's more in the spirit of the early series, though I admit I haven't watched much of the show since season 11 or 12
- This should run pretty well on most systems as it's not a graphically intense game. Unlike its sequel, you won't have to deal with the annoying and pointless Ubisoft launcher on PC
- This was especially appreciated since I played the game on a Steam Deck. The Ubisoft launcher is typically a pain on that platform, but Stick of Truth didn't require it

Final Verdict
- 8/10. If you don't like the franchise, feel free to dock two points (three if you don't like turn-based RPGs). I thought it was a fun, if somewhat easy, RPG for anyone who wants a 15 hour dose of South Park

Easily the funniest game I’ve ever played. I was expecting basically a few good laughs but not much in game play. But there was just hilarious moment after hilarious moment while telling a fun story and the biggest surprise of all was the good turned based gameplay. I was expecting this to be mediocre at best but I really enjoyed myself and this game deserves to be in my category of great games with my 4 star rating.

Enjoyment - 7/10
Difficulty - 4/10

For a South Park game, it is great. Considering its adaptation history in video games, no one expected this game to be anything. It is a South Park RPG. Solid attempt. Light hearted and fun. This format would be later improved in the sequel.

The achievements were annoying with many chances to miss needed collectibles. I also experienced an annoying glitch that affected my collectible progress. Achieve at your own risk.
🏆

While the gameplay is very simplistic Paper Mario inspired turn based combat, the story is basically a south park episode with a self insert character thrown in, so if you like South Park you'll like this

Storywise, perhaps the most hilarious thing I've ever played and a wonderful game to represent one of the best and funniest shows ever created. It falls a tad short, with the gameplay being a bit more fun in the sequel.

If you like South Park, you should try this game. If you don't, then you will not like most of the story and jokes.

From gameplay perspective it's a fun rpg game, but nothing too special and pretty easy

>> Perso Favorito = Cartman e Kyle.

Went in expecting some laughs but instead found an extremely well made RPG that somehow gave me Paper Mario vibes with the combat. Kicking myself that I didn't play it sooner.

Funny game to play all around. Not even the biggest fan of south park either. Loved the constant references to the show as well as the jabs on the rpg games. Would recommend.

I thought about making a review for this but, let's be honest here, it's a South Park game Trey Parker and Matt Stone crafted with help from Obsidian, with influences from Paper Mario and Earthbound, with a bit of Zelda and Skyrim thrown in, that can last up to 12-22 hours, a feat I was able to do by starting it yesterday for said 12 hours and then finished this evening. Your feelings on it is already pre-determined from the get-go just from that explanation.

I was pretty much feeling the urge to revisit something related to the IP since I remembered my fondness for the first... 7 or 8 seasons of it, and this was a good way to satiate that urge. A lot of my positives (the writing, the presentation and pacing, the way this game is organized to break with the right amount of effort and battles containing a fun rhythm in them) and negatives (being overly simple despite all that and putting it on Hardcore difficulty, dungeons being lukewarm, hit-and-miss side content) are more or less the same when I first played this several years ago. I suppose another thing that's changed is that I didn't laugh as frequently, but this is less of a fault on the game's humor and more so me just not finding it funny enough to respond to it... if that makes sense. Like, I recognize the funny and how the structure of said funny is well done, I just don't laugh at it, ya know?

If nothing else it was also a good way to ease up on my burnout. I have to watch the post-COVID specials, as well as the movie, at some point too, I haven't bothered with those yet and I'm not sure why. If you want my favorite moments from this, they're Night 2, a majority of the Girls' Quest, and the sewers.

The stick of truth perfectly sums up South Park: vulgar, ridiculous, and disgusting! and I’m here for it! Playing this game was like watching the show; each detail was spot on, and for a fan, it was like a trip down memory lane (member?). Some of the moments in the game were so bizarre, like having a boss fight with a gnome while dodging my dad's balls. And the worst of it, I couldn’t even see (because it was censored in Europe), so I can only imagine how far they tried to take it. I really enjoyed this game more than I thought I would. Most games fail to make me laugh, so this game was just a crass blast into the minds of Trey and Stone!

even though this game did well im sad not that much people talk about it nowadays. it felt more fantasy than most other fantasy games ive seen and played

It's so beautiful. I haven't felt so much a part of a game in a long time. I had a lot of fun, I was never bored. I put myself in the characters' eyes and felt the story. I made friends with Eric Cartman and fought together. I laughed a lot at the funny references. I liked the aggressive humor and I was never bored with the story. I loved walking around South Park and interacting with NPCs. On the other hand, they made the fights very, very fun. The skills are very unique and even though it's turn-based, you have to play actively. You have to adjust the timing of all of them, not just click and release. Most of the skills are very unique and funny. I recommend everyone to play, whether you are a South Park fan or not. Eric Cartman <3

Peak South Park humor.
What else can I say

"We have Paper Mario at home" but it's actually good. And still funny as hell all these years later! Obsidian and the team at South Park Studios pretty much created a pitch-perfect translation of the TV series. Few, if any, other licenced games capture the look and feel of their properties so exceptionally. Sure, it's a little easy and it still has its share of minor technical shortcomings, but it's a satisfying and hilarious adventure for any fan of the show.

Looking forward to finally playing The Fractured But Whole.

"Going Down To South Park, Gonna Have Myself A Time!"

South Park: The Stick of Truth is a fantastic spin-off in the South Park universe, showcasing yet again that Obsidian Entertainment is one of the best RPG developers out there. With a solid, albeit simple combat system, as well as a wacky story with some of the most insane writing ever to exist within a video game (let alone a South Park "episode"), The Stick of Truth ends up being a hilarious adventure for longtime fans of the series as well as newcomers to the show's antics.

Gameplay-wise, the game isn't too complex for a turn-based RPG. Your characters have basic melee/ranged attacks, some magic spells, and some usable items to replenish health, mana, and give special buffs such as extra attacks or increased defense. Honestly, it's lighter compared to what Obsidian has implemented in titles like Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity , but on a base level, it does its job. What gives it an extra layer of intrigue is the fact that every single attack/spell/potion is representative of either a joke/element of the South Park universe, or an extension of the character itself (Some examples: Stan's special attack using "Sparky", his faithful companion introduced in the first season of the show; Butters' special attack transforming him into Professor Chaos, and alter-ego of Butters introduced in the sixth season of the show). These easter eggs are stuffed within the game, and nearly every location you visit, every character you meet, and even some events within the story have something to call back to within the show. The level of detail is astounding, and Obsidian crafted a fantastic world based within the already complex show of South Park.

The writing is what takes this game from pretty good to simply awesome. There are things in this game that occur which could not be shown on television, and boy did Trey Parker and Matt Stone take advantage of it. Spoiling any of it does nothing review-wise, but I will say that I haven't felt a mix of being repulsed, offended, shocked, and completely baffled by a game's writing in a long time! It was an insanely hilarious and raunchy journey, full of the immature, pop-culture/social-commentary focused brand of humor that South Park has built for itself over the last two decades. Overall, I never felt bored of the game's antics throughout my 15+ hour playthrough, and I always looked forward to the next insane thing that the writers would throw at me.

While the somewhat simplified combat system is a bit of a letdown, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this title. I had only watched a bit of the show prior to playing this game, and now I am determined to dive in to the craziness of the show itself. The writing and humor won me over, and created a new fan by the time my journey ended. I would highly Recommend this game; If there was any way to jump into South Park, this game would be it!

Final Verdict: 8/10 (Great)
