You wanna know what woomy means? You haven't been following the story until now, have you? Well then, let's start looking inwards. All too quickly after the first game, a new entry pops up to take advantage of the new console's properties, or lack thereof, you can only guess. Smeared with the same coat of paint, but on a different canvas. Perhaps with one too many strokes, unintended or otherwise? Is this review just, fatally, my own little outlet to act as a different person? Well its not and I don't sound right rn. Let's talk about the jump, it sucks and I been slippety slippery one too many times which led me to restart entire levels... a lot... which is sad! Not like, national tragedy level of sad though, even if we're talking Vatican level.

So, new levels. I like the variety. There's an atmosphere of fleeting reminiscenses, a feeling of déjà vu of sorts, one that can only be shaken down by the occasional sweat factory level where I'm sweating like it's a 9-5 because of... it varies, chances are it's pick your poison between trying to aim mid air or silly platforms here for a silly time or fucking off.

The enemy roster has been expanded with, huh, something I affectionately call Big Suck and others. Not to mention the bosses, really scary, but a breeze compared to some regular levels. The octolings extermination ones were also a walk in the park, all thanks to my upgraded trusty dualies. You see, we can now use a buncha weapons in the main story. You get assigned one in every level that isn't about octolings, in fact. Makes solid level design, but restricting level design. The unknown is scary, and this is unknown for Nintendo to design restrictive games. Beats the alternative in Splatoon 1 of only getting to use the starter pack(tm) gun, so for that I will deep cut Splatoon's second outing some slack.

When I play Halo online, I can carry a subpar team. When I play Splatoon online, it doesn't seem to matter how well I do if my teammates aren't helping.

This is a team shooter that requires communication and planning, and it makes total sense that it would be an eSport. But unless you're regularly playing with the same people on your team and can communicate with them, it's a pretty frustrating experience.

salmon rush is the only good part but im glad i sold this game for gamestop money

I finally logged 1000 hours in this piece of shit, so I'm reviewing this again.

To quote videogamedunkey from classic YouTube channel videogamedunkey, "Splatoon 2 is a fucking stupid game." The difference however is that Dunkey didn't like it because it's "a shooter with bad aiming" and I fucking hate it because I learned how to play it and it's actually just the most annoying game on the planet. The aiming is fine.

At its core, I love Splatoon. The ink gimmick works incredibly well and makes for an engaging third-person movement-based shooter that I wasn't expecting to enjoy as much as I do. The art direction is fun and colorful. The outfits and customization options are awesome. The single-player campaign is both a great way to learn how the game mechanics actually work and a generally fun experience all-around. The new co-op PvE mode Salmon Run is probably my favorite part of the game. However, the "main game" is the online multiplayer.

"The connection is unstable."

I'm becoming unstable.

The amount of drops and disconnects I experienced in an average play session drove me up the fucking wall, and if I'm lucky enough to catch a friend while they're in the middle of a game, I can almost guarantee we won't be teamed up together. Given that the room isn't full.

And that's ignoring when the game actually works.

Going from Splatoon 1 to Splatoon 2, I greatly appreciate Nintendo's attempt to re-balance the specials around team-support, but they should've just focused on supporting the fucking garbage online experience instead.

Unlike in Splatoon 1, the specials are the most broken, passive, unengaging, anti-fun bullshit I have experienced in a video game. Splatoon 1's specials were designed like being given a small super-power that you can use for a moment. They were broken too (I'm looking at you, kraken), but at least they were an incredible amount of fun to actually use.

Splatoon 2's specials on-paper were designed for "team support." They had the right idea for some of them. Inkjet and Ultra Stamp get a pass. Fuck every other special. They might as well be called "fuck you moves." Moves that essentially block off an entire area from smooth navigation of any kind and induce panic over and over in the span of a few minutes all while aggressive fiddle music plays in the background.

Fun.

Unironically can't wait to pick up Splatoon 3 when I wake up tomorrow so I can experience another thousand hours of exactly this.

the best splatoon experience! ♡ one of my favourite games of all time, definitely worth every hour spent on it. pearl and marina are the best idols in the franchise, splatfests had the best vibe, story mode was difficult but fun, and the ink had glitter in it! genuinely, what more could you want? ♡

This game is the reason why I even wanted a Switch in the first place, and it didn't disappoint.

my sister is very good at this game. i suck, however

It runs via peer-to-peer, so that alone makes this game a scam and literally unplayable. And since Splatoon 2 without the Octo Expansion does not provide enough new content to justify a whole new entry, it’s a scam a second time.

0.5 stars is for scams and unplayable games, so I think this rating fits perfectly fine… thrice.

Without a doubt the most disappointed I've ever been for a game. This isn't to say it's bad, but the forced removal of a constant mini-map via the gamepad demanded the gameplay loop drastically shift to be more focused on combat than map control, which spoiled what made the first game so special in the first place. The singleplayer is decent, but the hubworlds majorly damage the experience, as just getting to the levels becomes it's own chore. The best part is definitely salmon run, which takes the general mechanics and places it into a Zombies-Mode. At the end of the day, not a bad game, but it's evident they chose to take the game in a direction incongruous with my personal interests, and for that, I can't help but shed a tear.
Octo Expansion is huge plays, though.

Splatoon 2 is such a damn good game that literally no one talks about and I won't stand for it any longer. It's totally a kids game but it's so inventive and creative and fun and everything works so well. The replayability isn't there for me because of no achievements/trophies but I had an absolute blast running through this game once and dabbling with the multi player. There's fun weapons, great level design, it's colorful and vibrant, the platforming elements work well, it's inventive and has unique controls. This game is a complete package and a total surprise for a gamer north of 30. Check it out. My only complaint is the final boss was a bit insufferable.

The ranked in the game is fucking trash I can't lie, however, I was still addicted to this shit. Always strapped up with the hero charger replica in rainmaker was some goated ass shit. Salmon run was also fun asf I can't lie. Grinding for good clothes was also pretty good but terrible as shit cuz the drinks don't even work. But at the end of the day, I put in 575 hours in this game, saved loads of clips I would hit and just enjoyed killing mfs.

simultaneously a lot of fun and the most infuriating game ever

It's more Splatoon. I spent like 50 hours 100% completing the campaign with every available weapon because I am a psychopath. Do not recommend. Game is good because Splatoon is good, but it doesn't do anything revolutionary over its predecessor beyond adding Salmon Run (which is pretty fun).

i have over 1500 hours in this game. and i hate it

More of a great thing? I'll drink to that, brother!

I never played Splatoon 1 (yeah big surprise another person who didn't buy a WiiU) but I always admired the series from afar. It was really exciting to see Nintendo not only start a new series, but one so different from any of their existing franchises, both in gameplay and presentation. I loved the vibe, the music, the character design, and was always very curious about the gameplay. For this reason, when I bought a Switch last year, this and Super Mario Odyssey were the games I bought with it. Now, nearly a year after I bought it, I finally played the game. Every time I was about to play it I either didn't feel like starting a multiplayer-focused game at the time or there was some other game that was more immediately enticing. But with Splatoon 3 rapidly approaching, I knew I had to finally crack into this.

Presentation wise, this is everything I hoped it would be. Splatoon's aesthetic is like two different eras of what people consider cool coming together in a fun explosion. Parts of it feels like something Nickelodeon would have conceived of in it's heyday, and parts of are like a cute tribute to street fashion culture and dance music. Like I said, it feels right at home with Nintendo without feeling like it's leaning on any pre-existing series. The cast of characters aren't all that deep but their designs and little bits of dialogue make them quickly endearing. And of course, they give you a really good custom character here. The inklings and the clothes you get for them are super appealing. Everything about this game feels like something I would think is the coolest thing in the world as a kid, which is why I'm so charmed to see the posts on this game that are clearly being made by children, I was absolutely one of them when I was their age.

Now, I've gone this far praising the presentation without mentioning the gameplay, and it's not because I'm building up to some reveal where I don't like the gameplay, I like it a lot. Definitely takes some getting used to, but once you really get a feel for movement and aiming, it's effortless and fun to pull off. I used gyro aiming, and I can definitely see why it's so highly recommended by players of this game. The big downside is that as a Switch Lite owner, it means I can't just hold my controller however I like because the console is my controller.

I guess my biggest gripe with this game is that, I'm not someone who cares about online multiplayer that much. Splatoon is simple, but obviously in order to consistently win and get a high ranking you have to learn how to get good at it. It involves learning the best strats, reading the tier lists, and understand "the meta". To me, as soon as you start mentioning "the meta" for a game, I zone out, I cannot be bothered to invest in multiplayer games in that way. In a way, Splatoon's multiplayer is made for people like me. Cooperation is important, but performing like you would on your own is still a viable strategy. Focusing on painting makes the shooter genre a lot more friendly and easier to understand to newcomers. But I feel myself hitting a wall with this game, I can feel that I need more of an understanding, and maybe this is just really lazy sounding but I don't feel like falling into that rabbit hole. I guess it means I like this mutiplayer, but not enough that I'm really desperate to get good at it. But who knows, I'm still only about level 14, and I have a feeling I'll be coming back to this game every now and then until 3 comes out, and maybe I'll change by then.

It must say a lot about me that the single player is easily my favorite part. The levels are super fun and have just the right amount of challenge. They definitely aren't easy, and they do a good job of teaching how to get above competent at shooting as well as introduce all the weapons. The hub worlds the levels are in are also a huge highlight, just figuring how to get to the next level is a joy. If I had any criticism, it's that I wish the levels all looked more like they were for their respective hub world, which are visually distinct, as there isn't much visually disconnecting the levels themselves. They're structured like big obstacle courses in the sky, which are really fun, but I wish they could figure out something as diverse as their multiplayer maps. I'm definitely picking up the Octo Expansion soon, more single player is the exact right kind of DLC this game should get.

I'm probably going to end up being day one for Splatoon 3, I really like this game and would love to see what they do next. If anything, I'm definitely looking forward to new single player. Sorry about the typos if there were any, I'll fix it someday.

No Mahi Mahi Resort, suck my dick.

I feel like i shouldn't have liked this game as much as i did. theres a handful of multiplayer modes, and a single player mode that is definitely shorter then it should be, but i just loved every second of playing this. once you get used to them the single player levels are super fun and the boss fights (though reused) were incredible. the entire game is so dedicated and creative with its sea life themes that it ends up being a completely charming experience that clearly had a lot of care put in to it, and allows me to overlook the very short length of the campaign. The multiplayer is very fun but not easy (or maybe i'm just bad, but I've been stuck in C rank forever). There are multiple ranked modes and turf wars, which are all great fun. the only problem is the game uses a mode rotation system so sometimes you'll log on only to be forced to play a game-mode you may not like. The other big problem is that salmon run is only accessible at certain times for some reason, and speaking of salmon run, other than that one problem its incredible. its super fun and very hectic and you need full cooperation from your teammates to win, making it very rewarding when you succeed on making your quota. Splatoon 2 is all around a great game and super fun. Definitely worth checking out.

have you ever wondered how the inklings tentacles would taste like? i think theyd prolly be squishy and hard to chew, and prolly have some sort of acidic fluid inside. would eat

I can't believe you got me to spend 60 dollars on this Carlos

I played through the entire campaign, and then didn't do much online because I didn't want to pay for Switch Online.

The story mode was okay, but my desire for more out of it may have just been because of my refusal to get an online subscription.

This is one of the most annoying games I have ever played and I will probably continue to play it for a very long time.

Never google what Matpat had to say about the squid inspired by Tupac

Woomy
sksksksk anyway stan pearl

The single-player is a bit of a step-down as a whole, but the level design is still excellent and this is a great multiplayer game with some Nintendo online funk

Splatoon 2 was a great game for the Switch due to the community around the game series. I finished the story mode and did lots of online play, trying to unlock as many weapons and costumes that I could, but eventually shelved it once the story was finished. Haven't messed with the expansion much, but down the line I may return to do so.

I played the crap out of this game. This game is just so much fun with its coop, multiplayer, and campaign. I can understand why many people didn’t like the campaign, but I still liked it. The art, music and lore to this game is very interesting. The multiplayer was amazing (except for clam blitz). Over all, the game was really good

There are very few game series I've been addicted to like I've been addicted to Splatoon. It's unfortunate it suffered a familiar fate that the first did, with a weak first few months of sparse content additions, but by the end of its cycle it's quickly become one of my favorite Switch games. I loved grinding the hell out of everything the game had to offer all over again - it has a great sense of atmosphere and one of the most enjoyable Nintendo universes on the Switch. I can't wait for an inevitable sequel to shake the series up even further.
