Listen, its a good game, just really really similar to the first. The first game was amazing, and hence this game is as well; I was simply hopping for more. I would say however, that the few little quality of life and extra improvements do a good job at making this slightly more worth it to play then the first.
Could be an eight depending on how I feel that day, but at the end of the day I am a bit of a retard, one could say, and really like the detailing options added in 3. I feel a bit constrained in this entry, like I can't truly flourish when I can't use three different colors on my paths. The simplicity is a benefit in many ways, but my immense talents of deciding how many pickles should be on the burgers I sell are immensely restrained here.
For some reason I had it in my head from a kid that this was a lesser version of the 1st. On the contrary, it's just better. It's basically the same game just with added new features. This and the 1st are achievements of the all-time caliber of gamemaking. Its so mindboggling how Chris Sawyer made this game engine as optimally as this.
With OpenRCT2, this ends up accidentally becoming one of the best simulation games ever made. I spent like, 40 hours on perfecting my first theme park, and now I don't have any motivation to play more? Whoops. Really fun while it lasted tho, and I can EASILY see myself dumping way more time into this game when I've taken a break and am less overworked with college.
What I liked: I played this for the first time as an adult, so I don't have any nostalgia for it, but I still thought it was totally solid. I'm a sucker for those late 90s early 00s graphics and the tycoon game aesthetic. Building your own park is fun and there's a surprising amount of room for creativity.
What I didn't like: This game made me feel like an idiot a lot of the time because there are a lot of very complicated mechanics that are really not explained, so I felt like I was constantly having to google how to do everything. I also didn't like how a lot of the game modes involved accomplishing a goal by a certain date because it made it hard to "role play" and gave me no time to do fun stuff like decorating. It also felt like half the time I wasn't "allowed" to put in like 90% of the coasters and I wasn't sure why.

Some additional content and QOL improvements from the first, but I never liked it as much. It felt like there were too many options for rides/shops/scenery/etc. and nothing to do with them because the scenarios didn't unlock serially like the original. Still, a wonderful game and one with tons of replay value.
It's a better version of RollerCoaster Tycoon, plain and simple. All of the familiar gameplay remains with so many new rides and thematic decorations, plus an entirely new mode where you can just build and experiment on rollercoasters. This is the kind of game you can lose hours to, and it's easy to get into whether you're a hard-core gamer or not!
