Bem divertido pra um jogo tão antigo

Mario e Mario.

The hitboxes can be weird but everything else is smooth, special shoutout to piranha plants and 7-4 cuz their only purpose is to annoy me!!

Am I a fake gamer for only finishing this now in 2023? Yeah.

In all seriousness though, it's alright, but really nothing special. I could see how this would be revolutionary in a day where there was nothing else like it, but compared to every other platformer that came after it, it's pretty average. The controls aren't as tight as I would normally expect from a Mario game (jumps are sluggish if you don't spend a solid second or two building momentum, and landing can be rather slippery) and the level designs are fun enough, though most were not particularly memorable.

7-4 and 8-4 are dumb for being puzzle levels in a game that at no other point insinuates that it plans on including puzzles.

O começo da franquia Mario (e a minha primeira review)

Mario.

It's harder to rate this whether you're trying to rate it just based off of influence from this game alone, it's absolutely one of the biggest video games to ever be created for that reason. Or it's gameplay

But for me it's just an alright Mario game now, I pretty much prefer most 2d Mario entries outside of some of the Super Mario Land titles or NSMB 2. It's definitely worth playing at least once though, and for good reason.

Pros: Big adventure filled with 8 worlds. Tough platforming challenges, variety of level types, useful power-ups, and cool secrets. Incredibly fun to speedrun through too!

Cons: The platforming mechanics are a bit stiff, the timer is annoying (as it is in most Mario games), and not being able to scroll the camera back from where you came to the left, is a bit of a bummer... Otherwise, I got no real complaints, I can play this game again and again and again.

What it means to me: Most likely my very first video game, as it came packaged with the NES, though too young to understand and play it well at the time. But as I discovered more and more about it, the more I loved it, and then to finally conquer the adventure and defeat Bowser at the end, saving the princess, I felt a sense of accomplishment I'd never felt with any other game. This one is special, it pretty much changed the world.

The start of an era of amazing films. It is endlessly iconic, but obviously it has aged. However, it’s definitely not bad and it’s pretty fun.

Mom gifted it to me when I was 10 or so and we played it many years after the dawn of much better games. It was still good fun and brought fond memories.

Still worth checking out to this day. Play it with save states though.

bem loko amo rayman

The castle levels almost made me quit the game, super annoying in that department.

Esse foi o jogo que mudou a P**** toda! Nada a declarar.

The game that started the franchise although the game shows its age i think its still is a enjoyable experience

NES Week: Day #7

So, we’ve finally made it. After enjoying some simple pinball, ‘climbing’ up some icey mountains, hitting a ball with a racket, finding gems as a red blob, being a motorcyclist, and fighting with some balloons, we have finally made it. We’ve made it to Super Mario bros.

I could’ve gone for duck hunt for the last game but I thought that wouldn’t be great enough and that the perfect game to play at last is Nintendo’s mascot himself! My history with this game is pretty short. I used to play quite a bit of it but never get past world 6. Turns out there was a way to getting to world 8 all the way from world 5 so…that was nice to know at last after I’d gone through quite a lot of pain but oh well.

In the game you play as Mario on his way to save princess toadstool from the evil king koopa (or peach and bowser). On the way you’ll come across goombas, koopa troopas and buzzy beetles. You’ll also find lakitus who just love to annoy you every chance you get. As a game, Super Mario bros. has aged pretty well. Not ridiculously well but definitely well enough for it to still be played today. And yes: it is pretty difficult near the end but not as difficult as some other Mario games on the NES (looking at you lost levels) but overall you’ll still be able to enjoy a timeless classic.

Classic, recognisable music, decent enemies, bullet bills come at the wrong time, your princess is in another castle!

The kind of all-timer that comes once in a decade; as primitive as it is, it's proof that graphics don't mean everything and that in the end it always comes back down to level design, mechanics, and just general vibes. And the original Super Mario Bros, regardless of it's age, is still a masterpiece in level design and mechanics. The way Mario feels is timeless - heavier then other games in the series but still somehow distinctly Mario, and the levels progress in difficulty in a way that feels right.

And once you reach the end, with some of the hardest levels in the game and it throwing pretty much everything it can at you, it feels genuinely satisfying. Your princess is in another castle, but when the journey is this good and well aged, it's hard to not wanna see it through.

I'm sorry to say that I do not like Super Mario Bros on the NES, I can already hear the Nintendo Youtubers outside of my house...

This game is a platformer game alright, it's the iconic NES game that helped the industry and bla bla bla, the type of talk you'd hear in a video essay about the NES or Mario's history but if we remove the historical context out of this game it becomes pretty mediocre.
Instead of praising this game for doing things first, I think it would be more fun to talk about its flaws, for example, the terrible momentum physics. Playing this game after playing Mario Maker 2 really shows how terrible the momentum is and how easy it is to miss a jump with the weird accelerations that just never seem to be right.
Something else that I hate is the 8 worlds that are pretty much the damn same, I can't force myself to even play worlds 1-3 because why would I, the warp zone is right there! The temptation is just too strong! With each world having pretty much the same stage layout and order it gets really boring and repetitive, and with that 1-up trick you can have enough lives to remove any difficulty from the game and pretty much just turns the game into a 100 Mario challenge from Mario Maker.
The stages and enemies, you can tell me a billion times that the 1-1 stage is the most iconic stage and how smart it is for the player or whatever the Nintendo YouTubers keep repeating as if they all shared the same game essay, you can't tell me that anything outside of 1-1 and 1-2 are actually well-designed stages, at best I'll give you the entirety of World 1 but anything past that is bullshit with terrible enemies like the cheep cheep and hammer bros, or the GIGANTIC lava bar from the castle stages... these just sucks man...

Do take this with a grain of salt as this is how I view this game and this is my opinion and not yours, you might think this game is a timeless masterpiece and that's good for you but I don't think this means it should be free from actual criticism even if it's an old piece of media.
This game did age tremendously well compared to other NES games from that era like Clu Clu Land and many others and I do well acknowledge that fact.

Good gam 👍

Nothing special by todays standards but it isnt a huge time sink so worth it

It’s Mario, man. It saved the games industry and the medium would’ve have died if not for this. I won’t stand for any disrespect towards this bonafide masterpiece. The level design is perfected and was the first game that mastered controlling a character within a 2D space.

The castle puzzle levels suck and are clearly Nintendo Powerified so now an online guide is required.

It's clasic 2D Mario, you can't go wrong with that.
