There's probably a lot to love about this game, but I just didn't care for it at all. I'd say if you're not a big Suda fan - don't touch this game and pick up a YouTube video of it instead. The gameplay is extremely mundane - almost every Death Ball (level) is based on some sort of wack gimmick, most non-oneshottable enemies are absolute damage sponges and there's a TON of them, the special skills that actually help in battle take forever to recharge and it all just makes the combat not fun at all. I hated the donut levels, disliked the racing games, and absolutely DESPISED the final Death Ball - which was easily one of the most frustrating experiences I've had in videogames in a long while. A majority of the game's story is fourth wall breaks and self-depreciating jokes, which I liked, but it got repetitive after some time, just like the combat. I enjoyed the VN segments, though.

Suda's games are not for everyone, but I'd say most of his games can appeal to anybody with an open mind, like killer7 and the first NMH. This game is an exception. You will likely only stomach the gameplay if you genuinely care about Suda's work and career enough and have time and will to think about this game's meaning a lot, because that's primarily what this game is about. Overall I had zero fun with it, I respect what he tried to do with his extremely limited assets, but it just didn't grab me at all.

It almost totally discards what happened in the previous games, but to be honest the attention to detail and gameplay are 10/10.

It's nice that one of the best albums of all time came with a free game

The return to the Old Valley of Mines is honestly one of the best moments in videogame history

Great game!! Lots of great characters and quite complex plot that has a lot of connections to previous games. Godot is an interesting character, you can argue in circles about him though that's what I think makes him good, you can look at him from different perspectives. The final case may have a few inconsistencies, but they are overshadowed by all the amazing moments. Great sendoff overall.

Not much into turn-based combat. The atmosphere and aesthetics of this game are phenomenal though.

Mediocre combat and gameplay, cut content from the original and Majima Saga is horrendous fanservice trash ruining the ending of Zero. I liked most of the story, but it was nowhere near the peak of a Yakuza game. All I got to say.

I liked the first one more, but I enjoyed this game a lot. Compelling characters, nice world, interesting story, the combat was... just there, not bad and beautiful soundtrack (Come on. It's Keiichi fuckin' Okabe!). I'd probably feel a bit different way about it if I played it today rather than in 2018, but still. Good game as a starter to japanese games/RPGs.

It's fucking God Hand, need I say more

Certainly not for me. Typical NES jRPG, hard, easy to get lost in and extremely grindy.

This game is flawed, but it has a lot of heart and soul. The tragedy elements didn't feel forced to me (as they have their own gravity in the narrative) and I absolutely love all this game has to offer. Deserves its status as a cult classic.

I was a little bit sceptical checking out Umineko. I've heard various opinions about it. The majority of them was the classic "peak fiction", "kino" and whatever else similar terminology is used on sites such as this one, so I did get my hopes up high.

And yeah. I don't think it's perfect. It did have several flaws that did not sit right with me. I'm no fan of the pacing. It's horrible, in fact. The same story could easily be told in a much shorter way and it still could pack the same emotional weight. Some, or may I say MANY moments drag out waaay too long and made me want to grab a fucking pillow. A few characters overstay their welcome by a long shot (for example Ange's aunt, the moments with her were UNBEARABLE).

...yet, it's still one of my favorite fictional stories. Yea I get it, you've heard it a lot. But I don't regret trucking through its numerous lows, not one bit. Because the highs were fantastic. I loved the themes, the characters and the mysteries. The ending was a tad controversial, but I loved it as well, and it made my eyes wet. I will never regret any second I've spent on reading this. A great ride indeed.

+ the soundtrack fucking slaps. zts, please man, be a DJ at my wedding.

Highly underrated imo. Many great scenes and characters, plus Connor is heavily underappreciated.

Guess I didn't jump on the hypetrain, but it was pretty good to me. Just not lifechanging, like for some other users. I do like the themes, music and artstyle a lot, but that's about it. Most of the game's cast felt bland and the story was interesting enough for me to finish it.
