What can I even say about this game that hasn't already been said? It's regarded as the best in the series for a reason after all.

One of the best written crime drama stories you'll experience in a game. All the characters are amazing and have so much depth and development, the side stories and mini-games are just as good as the main story, the gameplay is one of the best action combat systems out there and the music is just as good as everything else in the game.

Peak Yakuza.

2018

It's nowhere near as bad as people claim, it's certainly not a masterpiece either and is very buggy and repetitive, but I still thought it was interesting for what it was.

This is not a game that is going to be for everyone, it is edgy and artsy at the same time and it can definitely come off as kinda pretentious, especially seeing as how the story is primarily based on notes you have to read and also whether the player knows their Judeo-Christian lore and is actually familiar with the bible.

However the world design and art style alone are worth it for me because it is the best representation of Hell I've ever seen in a game.

The narrative was simply incredibly well crafted and written and has some great twists.

I really love how much character development Kratos gets in this game and the whole dynamic between him and Atreus.

The combat is super fun, challenging and rewarding, I know this is a meme in itself but it legitimately does have a bit of a Souls feel to it lol. At first I was worried that it would get stale only using one weapon, but you can do SO MUCH with the Leviathan Axe that it feels like you have 10 different weapons (Also you do get another weapon about halfway into the game, but not saying anything else to avoid spoilers)

Also I rarely say this about games that add pseudo-RPG elements like levels, experience, armor/gear and an open world, but they actually utilized those elements perfectly in this game and it never felt like a chore exploring, I actually wanted to explore the world to find resources to upgrade my equipment and get more powerful equipment.

The score was just beautiful, not normally big on western game soundtracks, but this one was seriously fantastic and definitely added to the experience.

Seriously, if you haven't played it yet, get it ASAP because you won't regret it. It's nice to say that a AAA title finally actually delivered on the hype it generated.

My first Ys game back in 2018 and still one of the best. Godly combat system, amazing level design, great characters and compelling story, the kind of attention to world-building and detail you'd expect from Falcom and absolutely masterfully composed OST. Very few games capture a sense of adventure the same way this one does.

Really unique and cute platformer with great art and music, but the controls are just infuriating. Still it lets you be a snek so that's cool.

Chaotic mindless fun that's enjoyable for a couple hours, but it's a bit too simplistic and gets old quick, plus there's no real replay value.

I got this game for a couple dollars and still felt ripped off

2016

Really cool concept and unique piece of meta-fiction with godly 4th wall breaks and great dialogue. The gameplay is actually quite polished and enjoyable too. Biggest downsides are it's so short and there's no replay value. Still highly recommend everyone to give this one a shot though.

Persona + Ys + Trails = Tokyo Xanadu

This was my first Falcom game back in 2018. I was looking for Persona styled alternatives and a friend recommended it to me. Fast forward a couple years after I've played the entire Trails and Ys series and I'd say it's one of my least favorite Falcom games, but it's still great regardless.

Story is pretty much a generic 2000s shounen and the characters are very trope-y, but it's still compelling because Falcom writers are top notch and know how to keep things interesting.

Combat is like Ys mixed with the orbment system of Cold Steel. It's a lot of fun.

Dungeon design is kinda weak, but the OST is incredible as with all Falcom so it makes up for it.

The game also has tons of references to Trails and Ys so if you're a fan of those series it's worth a playthrough just for that.

2017

Is it perfect? Not even close.
Is the voice acting so awful that it's actually good? Without a doubt.
Is it a glitchy mess at times? For sure
Despite all its various flaws does it still remain to be an extremely enjoyable and unique experience? You can bet your ass it does.

The combination of post apocalyptic sci-fi and high fantasy settings make the world incredibly interesting and one of a kind as well.

P.S. Flamethrower OP.

This game is weird because part of me wants to recommend playing it before 0 since the gameplay is just a worse version of 0 and you'd enjoy it more having it be your first Yakuza game (It actually was my first), but playing 0 first is almost mandatory due to it building the relationship between Kiryu and Nishiki so much more making the story of this game much more hard-hitting and compelling.

Anyway you slice it the game is solid with a really good story and great characters, but the side content just doesn't match up and the combat system is much more clunky than 0 despite coming out after.

Wolfo Zelda based around Japanese myth and folklore. Incredibly fun and unique gameplay, engaging story and world, great level design and bosses and killer OST. It deserves all the praise it gets. An iconic classic and masterpiece for a reason.

A very lackluster and disappointing ending to one of the best trilogies ever written, but still worth a playthrough if you're a big fan of the series and want to see the character interactions. I guess you could say that it's...

C O M P L E X.

Also I hate snails now.

Unchikoshi the GOAT (2)

Peak fiction. My favorite visual novel.

Every bit as much of a masterpiece as 999 is and then some.

A truly one-of-a-kind and unique story that could only work through the lens of a first person video game perspective.

Is the cat alive or dead? You will decide its fate.

I'm a sucker for stories that revolve around detailed scientific theories and implement a lot of philosophical concepts as well and both of those are just Uchikoshi's forté, so naturally I'm slightly biased I admit.

However...

Uchikoshi the GOAT.

There's a reason the game was one of the first VNs (Alongside Ace Attorney) to popularize the genre in North America, it definitely deserves the cult following it has and it's sad it was a commercial failure in Japan when it was first released.

Incredible mind-blowing plot twists and a truly one-of-a-kind mystery/thriller story with a unique hard sci-fi edge to it all driven by very realistic and relatable characters is what you can expect when picking up this title.

Really I can't recommend the game enough to both VN players and even people who don't typically play/like VNs just because the storytelling is so incredible that I think everyone who enjoys a great mystery story should give it a shot and experience it at least once in their life, it truly proves video games are just as worthy of a storytelling medium as any other media.
