In terms of "years of my life", 1999's gotta be one of the bangers, it's the year I got my (now, sadly, deceased) cat and more. It's also the year Super Smash Bros game out! That series has probably had more of a profound impact on me than any other as a result of joining a very long running Smash moveset creation contest where I met a lot of people and more.

In terms of the year-to-date on Game of the Year, 1999 boasts impressive consistent quality with a top half of games like SSB64, Pokemon Gold and Toy Story 2, but overall is featuring a lot of mediocre Nintendo 64 games I played as a kid and lacks a true topper as it plateaus at 8/10 right now. I'm missing plenty of iconic games that could pop up to be that year topper, though: Chrono Cross, Resident Evil 3, Silent Hill, Ape Escape, Planescape: Torment, Final Fantasy 8, Shenmue, Metal Slug X, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Ace Combat 3...

Despite being my most stuffed year, there's a lot out there! Some of them feel a bit uncertain and I'll probably play various random crap beforehand, but GOTY 1999 is off to a good start with a bright future!
