Play and finish this. Real, real games. Play them from left to right to do it chronologically. Dev insight is valuable.

Five is a complete reboot, start from there. Story matters, people say it doesn't here, but Ratatoskr gives a compelling argument. Play 5 and 6 on release.
Reportedly nonsensical story. As in, incomprehensible, not bad. Speculated to be due to translation issues.
