Persona Q is very much a mixed bag for me, I don’t really have many strong feelings on it, but it does do some stuff that I like, along with crap I dislike.

There’s some pretty easy pros and cons that can be drawn here, for example the music is mostly really good, and the artstyle is cute, but then a lot of characters get butchered pretty badly and come off as flat. This is definitely worse for some characters than others, but it’s still prevalent.

The gameplay is an aspect I knew was divisive going in, and unfortunately I wasn’t much of a fan, felt the dungeons were too big and complex for their own good, and running away from FOEs got real old real quick, which is a shame because there are some genuinely cool ideas here, but they just tend to overstay their welcome, and trying to solve puzzles while dealing with random encounters is just annoying.

The game’s story is kinda just a worse version of Persona 1 funnily enough, although it does have some good stuff in it. While I don’t care for Rei much, I can’t deny that her VA did a really great job, and while this is an idea that’s been done before, it’s still pretty effective I feel. There’s dumb stuff like how Zen making an exception for Rei is pretty unbelievable considering he would’ve already farried millions of people to the afterlife, but eh I don’t care much.

Overall, you know it’s fine, like a very flat 5 out of 10, I don’t regret going through it, but also I don’t think I’ll ever do so again.

Makoto doesn’t look like a smelly little grimy sludge weasel anymore this remake sucks

Absolutely adored this, from beginning to end this was an addictively fantastic experience.
Stuff in the original like the anime cutscenes are better, but otherwise this is easily my favorite version of the game, which I now like more then ever.

That is not Madeline, that is Maryland. She eats paste and has front-facing predatory eyes

You know, its funny. When I first told a friend of mine that I was gonna play Persona 3 on an emulator he told me to install a mod that adds controllable party members. I get why this mod exists and will be the definitive way that most people approach Persona 3’s gameplay, but the Tactics system acts as a summary to one of the game’s greatest strengths: treating it’s characters like people. You play the part of a commander that prescribes a general flow of battle rather than some far-off omnipotent being that extends its will over your party members, who learn to cherish each other and work harder together (symbolised by gaining new tactics after a full-moon mission). SEES wasn’t exactly the closest group of friends nor did they amazing chemistry with eachother, but they have been the only Persona party members to feel like a team of authentic, real people. Characters won’t develop in single, one-off “chunks” only to never really be relevant again, instead oftentimes have intricate and multifaceted arcs that occur naturally over the course of the game. They sometimes get tired and have to take a few days off, or need to take exams, or grieve the death of someone who you (the protagonist) never got to know well and will be subsequently unable to visit Tartarus.

It’s certainly unconventional, but the Tactics system and the many other small instances of micromanagement teaches the player to make the most of their time with the people they love while they still have it. No Persona game comes close to tying it’s themes into the gameplay so effortlessly and as a result Persona 3 is easily my favourite game from what I’ve played of the series and has quickly become one of my favourite games of all time. It’s just completely authentic. Engaging with it’s source material in a multitude of complex but with earnest, deeply human sensibilities. I don’t think I’ll ever play something like P3 ever again.

Probably one of my favourite games ever in a way I can’t really describe in a funny little summary. So uhh go play it and see what you think lol.

some undertale fan had the crazy idea of "what if we finished a game" and it was the best thing ever made

I failed the second dialogue option and started crying

I consider anyone who didnt like the game filtered. If I suddenly got terminally ill my last wish would be seeing the draft of the final chapter from Nankidai. That man is singlehandedly making us feel the whole spectrum of emotions while taking care of his newborns he's fucking rad.

The island minigame and minisodes aren't lacking in good writing either. Honestly this might be the only game where I don't yearn for voice acting, it's not needed they're compelling enough.

Being trans is hard.
If it's not someone being hostile just because we exist, then it's ourselves putting up non-existent obstacles that can only get worse depending on our self-esteem and self-confidence.

one night, hot springs stars Haru, a rather shy and introverted trans girl who just wants to live without bothering others, but today she has to go to the public hot springs because it's her best friend Minami's birthday.
Naturally, the hot springs are divided by gender, which naturally causes anxiety for our protagonist.
"Should I put my name and legal gender?" "What if they see me?" "Is it really okay to be here on a girls-only trip?" are so many of the questions Haru asks herself inside her head. With 7 different endings of a rather short duration, our protagonist faces such imaginary obstacles that her own head makes her suffer.

A very nice experience that won't take too much time out of your day and that I will always remember when such imaginary obstacles invade my mind and want to make me feel bad.
If you are not a trans person I still recommend it, as I feel it is positive to be able to understand even more how the people around you feel and how can you help.

Easily, the best written Visual Novel I have ever played, every single character arc is so perfectly executed to near perfection, the mystery solving is fun, the music is banging, this is without a doubt one of my absolute favorite games of all time, and it's not even finished!

Still a perfect game. The uncontrollable party members weren't really an issue, if you use the tactics correctly then they work very well and very efficiently. The story hits hard as always, and Aegis is just objectively the best girl ever written for the series. Has problems in gameplay, usually social link related with how easily girls specifically get mad or jealous, and a lot of social links can fall flat or feel tedious, but I can honestly overlook it because the game as a whole is wonderful. Great combat, an amazing story, incredibly well developed characters, incredibly memorable and iconic music, and one of the most beautiful endings in a video game. This game is worth the investment and the 7 playthroughs I've done.
