After playing sword and shield, I told myself that I was never playing a pokemon game again, then I immediately folded lol. Definitely my favorite Pokemon title since black and white though

One of the first games I played that felt truly next-gen. A little bit forgettable in the grand scheme of things, but a really enjoyable game overall.

While the story is not quite as good as the original game, the gameplay does see some great improvements that make this really enjoyable to play through.

While there are many aspects of this game that I think are better than the first, overall I would say that this is a worse game than 2018. Mainly, the combat gets much more repetitive because of the fact that we already played the first game and this game is quite a bit longer. I didn't love the combat of the first game, but the campaign was brief enough that it didn't bother me a ton. While this game does have much more enemy variety, the core loop of the gameplay is still a little too simple and repetitive for me. I also think the climax of the game was extremely underdeveloped compared to the rest of this. I still overall really enjoyed the game though because of the incredible character writing and engaging story.

Played the hell out of this game for the first month it was out. Unfortunately, the late-game content in this is very bare and this doesn't do enough new things compared to new leaf for me to want to continually play it.

My first pokemon game. While I think nostalgia definitely has some weight on why I love this game so much, after playing many of the more recent titles it's clear that much of the quality from this series has dipped.

2022

While I never got around to finishing the game, the time I spent with it was excellent. If I ever finish this, I could see it moving up to a 9

Played quite a bit of this game. Really well-made and extremely addictive.

An insane amount of content in this. Endless amount of enjoyment to be had

Allowed me to just turn my brain off for 10 hours and have fun with the insane hack-and-slash gameplay.

Short and sweet with a gorgeous score from Austin Wintory. There are several moments sprinkled throughout this that are truly unlike anything I've played in a game. I wish there was a bit more to the gameplay at times though as some segments felt slightly unnecessary to the overall game.

One of the most purely fun gameplay experiences you can have. Mainly I just wish that the story was a little bit better, particularly I remember finding the ending to be underwhelming. Still, the game is a blast and could easily go up to a 9 if I replay it

Only played this for the first time in 2020 so maybe that factors into my opinion on it. Personally, while I find the story to be a masterpiece, the gameplay, while still very good, feels not quite as fluid as I would like it to be. Playing this back-to-back with Part 2 really made me realize that the gameplay could definitely have been a little smoother.

I really should get to the King of Cards campaign at some point because all three of these that I've played have been so much fun.

Great art throughout this game and extremely fun gameplay as well.
