Credit where credit is due... It will make the original Sonic 1 seem even better on replay... that's something... I seriously have no idea why I beat this but I did... I know every system has awful shovelware but my brain keeps going to the fact that games like metroid fusion, golden sun and other better Sonic games exist on the GBA and yet Sega put this crap on it... Imagine a kid picking this over Sonic Advance 2... Scary thought. Might actually be the worst Sonic game which is a hell of an accomplishment.

Incredible gameplay, thrilling narrative and amazing characters, this game has everything, absolutely one of the greatest games of all time that must be experienced blind.

Such a short, simple game that I didn't touch until very recently... And yet it was absolutely an amazing experience, really makes me remember why short games are so much more my style. I like getting a nice, compact experience that I can get through in a short time while feeling satisfied, that is gaming to me. Anyway the puzzles are just fun, nothing too difficult which I'm pretty thankful for, most of the bits I got stuck on were imaginary puzzles I made for myself, like when I didn't know I could pick up the drones... The atmsophere is incredible, just incredible. Of course I heard of 'the cake is a lie' but it didn't undermine any of the build up to the moment, just so much fun and I can't wait to check out the sequel.

This is a perfect little game but it is indeed little. I really hope the Celeste team works on a proper 3D platformer at some point because I truly believe they could make something special... as long as it isn't connected to Celeste. This game does have a pretty major depth perception problem but it was most annoying at the start of the game, I mostly got used to it. I freaked out when I saw the super mario sunshine special stages but despite how nostalgic the music was it got really old after alot of failed attempts, pretty repetitive. Collecting strawberries is just super fun and I feel like it is a crime that they released this game for free, madness.

2022

This is the most fun I've ever had exploring in the game, this is Zelda 1 perfected and I love it dearly and I really wish I could give it 5 stars. The atmosphere and sense of adventure are absolute perfection but the combat is a bit more mixed. It is mostly fun to deal with enemies but when they sprint across the map to swarm you it feels a bit ridiculous. I never really had fun fighting the bosses, it was satisfying to beat them but the journey to that point never felt rewarding, it was always just a chore I wanted to get past, I did absolutely pop-off when I beat the final boss though. Amazing game, the exploring alone makes it worth it and I'd still consider it one of my favourite games but just not quite peak.

This is my favourite game of all time, there isn't a game I'd want to make a video about more but I truly don't think I could bring anything new to the table. This means everything to me, everything, the platforming is fun, of course it is, it is a Mario game... But the feelings this game gives me, the atmosphere it has, unrivalled.unrivaled

Incredibly fun, challenging platformer combined with a deep, moving story and a connection between the level design and story that enhances the game to a shocking degree, seems like winter themed platformers are the winning formula.

So strange... took me half the game to start liking the game then suddenly everything clicked. Not sure what took so long but I truly believe that purely from a platforming perspective this is the best designed platformer. There isn't a single 2D Mario that touches this one.

Still the best Metroid game I've played which is funny because it took me the longest to get into. It was the first Metroid game I tried and I kept giving up on it after only like 20 minutes for some reason. I then played it again after beating Metroid 1 and 2, figuring I would be able to appreciate now and yet I still couldn't... It took me beating every other 2D Metroid game to be able to dive right into this one and yet it surpassed all of them... So atmospheric, so beautiful. Exploration is fun and decently challenging (take notes Dread), the music is simply perfection and I truly feel connected to the world I'm exploring, never gets old, what a masterpiece. Also, Redley is peak.

This is an outstanding evolution of the Mega Man X and Zero series. Took a bit to get used to the combat and I don't think it is quite as satisfying as slashing robots with Zero's saber but I think it is superior overall. The grapple beam is super fun, throwing dead enemies creates an interesting flow to combat, making it somehow feel even more speedy than the games that inspired it. The bosses are super fun if a bit easy and the hub was a fun addition (please do a hub in the next X game Capcom). The stages are so fun, so varied, so full and satisfying to clear. They are on the longer side just like Mega Man 11 but the stages are way more interesting which keeps it from dragging. The only noteworthy flaw I have is the story, Mega Man isn't exactly known for housing great stories but I don't think even the basic lore here is that interesting, I'm likely going to skip it all on replay. I know I'm comparing this to Mega Man alot but truly this is everything I could ask for in a follow-up and I hope a possible X9 is even half this good.

This is a remake of one of the greatest platformers of all time, this is a remake that makes a lot of improvements to the original game, this is a remake that adds multiple amazing cutscenes as full as a full OVA opener to the game. There is so much to love about this game...

But I don't like it more than the original so... I have no reason to play this game. If this became a series of remakes like was originally intended then that would be a different story but sadly this is all we have and X1 didn't really need improving.

I personally prefer the style of the SNES game, the style here isn't bad but feels a bit... plastic maybe? Idk, just doesn't hit as hard.

I appreciate Chill Penguin no longer being basically the mandatory first stage as now the armor boots are in Flame Mammoth's stage but I would probably still have rathered the dash be part of X's moveset from the start.

The controls feels a bit less responsive to me but I really don't know specifics, there were alot of times when my dash didn't come through for some reason.

The animated cutscenes are cool but I don't like the retcons they do and regardless I can still watch them disconnected from the game so they don't add that much even if they are really cool.

The voice acting is superb, adds alot to the experience, especially X's voice actor. Level design is pretty much the same till the Sigma stages.

It is just a preference thing, this is an incredibly solid remake that I just have no reason to play. There's also the fact that the X legacy collection is so easily accessible meanwhile MHX isn't, really sucks it wasn't on any of the collections, it would've been a really cool bonus if it was put in the second X collection since most of the games in that half aren't very good.

I ranked this the same as Misadentures of Tron Bonne... I ranked this four stars... I don't know... This game hurts to rank... It is just so frustrating...

I like this game but I like it because it is a Legends game and it does many of the things I loved about Legends 2... But then it expands on the first game and... I think most of the ways it expands aren't for the best.

So for obvious pluses over the orginal the controls are of course better but as I said in my Legends 1 review, I don't think the controls take long to get used to so that doesn't really do much for me. The missions are more fun in this game so that's something. The story is... better? Better I think? It is more ambitious for sure but... I might still prefer the simplicity of the first game.

Too many characters are introduced who get scraps of screentime, even the Bonnes get very little to do. A big part of this game is meeting Roll's parents but it all just feels... weird? We see Roll's Dad but he has amnesia and she doesn't recognise him... And that's it, we get nothing more. Then we see Roll's mum but there's a bit of a mystery with her, Roll doesn't even believe it is really her mother. This also isn't paied off, by the time they have a chance to interact it is all about Volnutt and Roll stops even mentioning her Mum or Dad, that plot point becomes unimportant and Roll ends up being such a non factor. The whole thing with Sera also just feels like a rehash of the first game.

The world in this game is opened up compared to the first game. There are now multiple islands to "explore". Adding more islands is the natural thing to do considering the concept of the series, I get that... But I just loved Kattelox Island so much, it was one place with so much to see and you really got connected to it by the end of the adventure.

By contrast you never feel connected to any of the people on any of the islands, they just aren't around long enough and the islands themselves just don't have that much to do.

I don't really like the dungeons very much. The gimmicks just worsen the experiences. The fire dungeon is just frustrating and often unfair, the gravity dungeon is super bland and let's not even mention the tragedy that is the water dungeon... NEVER AGAIN!

Combat is slightly better but overall... Nah. Atmosphere is nothing compared to the first game and the dungeons are a disapointment.

This is a really great game but I will probably enjoy it more on replay when I have a better idea of everything from the jump. It did take me a while to get into it though, once I saw all those interactable servbots and all you could do with them my brain was fryed and I stopped playing for a few months...

But luckily it isn't as overwhelming as it first seems. This game is all about the different missions you can complete, there is a decent variety of missions that give you a certain amount of currency. Get to a certain currency and you get to the end. Simple as that.

I do really like the mission format even if this isn't too much of a Legends game, gameplay wise. I don't love all the missions though. I like the block puzzle one even if I ended up unable to do alot of the perfect runs for it which made me sad. I like exploring the ruin even if I do kind of wish there were multiple. I didn't like the farm one at all. The one where you send servbots to uncover stuff was... Okay, the characters we met were pretty fun but the gameplay is pretty nothing.

This is a Legends game though and it packs all that familiar charm. Tron and the Servbots are hillarious in this game. The torture room is simply a thing of beauty.

Doesn't beat the original for me but this is a great spin-off, the best in the series.

Peak. Fiction.

This game means the world to me and this tiny review won't do any of that justice but gosh this game is so good. It really feels like the type of game you can't just like. You either feel indifferent towards it or absolutely adore it, at least that's what I see alot.

This was one of the last Mega Man games I played. I went through all the platformers I absolutely adored and the RPGs only to come to this one niche sub series and have it absolutely blow everything else out of the water.

There isn't a single aspect about this game that isn't charming. The low poly playstation aesthetic is something I can't get enough, I seriously think it hasn't aged a day. Can we please get more retro throwbacks in this style?

Kattelox Island is an amazing game world, each corner of the small map feels alive and atmospheric despite the limitations, the above world just feels so peaceful (as long as you ignore those darn pirates).

There's a whole lot of memorable NPCs, weird optional scenarios and sometimes dumb yet endearing dialogue. Upgrading Rock Volnutt is really fun though I never really get much use out of the multiple sub-weapons.

The controls take some getting used to, they are outdated, I understand that... It takes like 5 minutes to get used to them, I don't think it is a big deal.

I love the contrast between the bright overworld and dark, repetitive depths. That's one of the reasons I actually prefer the samey ruins in this game compared to the themed ones of the sequel. I think the lack of variety helps contrast the regular world and gives a more dreary atmosphere to the place.

I love the Bonne family, I love the ridiculously loud bird chirping, I love running around, getting hit by cars in the city, I love the revearbots who manage to be both goofy and slightly unsettling, I love the missions (even if they almost made me give up multiple times on my first playthrough), I love the ending, I love collecting treasure in the ruins, I love beating up innocent cans, I love interacting with the people of Kattelox Island.

This game is everything. I absolutely adore it.

Is it a bit upsetting that the best Mega Man X game is the first one? Sure but... actually there isn't a silver lining, that really sucks... But hey, who cares about all that, let's talk about this incredible video game.

It is a bit difficult to talk about though since all the positives are pretty obvious but I'll try. I remember when I first played this game and unlocked the dash. I couldn't comprehend what was so great about a dash? It seemed so unremarkable... Oh how naive I was.

Why is dashing so fun? I don't get it. How did we go from a slide to this legendary movement device? Although I must say that I don't trust anyone who keeps the dash on the B button, you are a weirdo.

The levels are really fun and have a good mix of uniqueness between them without being too restrictive which I think is the best combination for an X series level. They should be cinematic but it should never overtake the pure freedom of movement the X series provides.

Beating certain levels will have changes on other levels. Like if you beat Chill Penguin before Flame Mammoth then the fire in his stage wwill be frozen over. This is really cool and I really wish the series tried to expand on this idea but while I really like the concept in practice I don't think it really works.

I've only seen the fire in Flame Mammoth's stage be active once, there just isn't any reason to not beat Chill Penguin first unless you are doing a dashless challenge run which I think is pretty lame and is ultimately kind of limiting.

Really most of my criticisms with the game are when it limits the player. Everyone already knows how well designed the tutorial stage is but on replays it is a bit tedious to get through without the dash. Honestly I kind of wish the dash was unlocked here instead of at Chill Penguin's stage. The dash isn't technically required for the game but at the same time... It really is the heart of the X gameplay so it is a bit of a shame that it being in Chill Penguin's stage limits your choices.

The story isn't much to write home about but it works and I don't mind the story being vague, I much prefer it to a straight up bad story because I can at least fill in the gaps myself which can be quite fun, I do wish Sigma had more presence though, it really feels like Vile is the main villain of the game. That would work if Sigma being the main vilain came as a shock to X but no.

Vile being invincible in the tutorial works but I don't know if I like it happening again at the end of the game. Feels a bit lame to also need to let Vile beat you up after you've likely gotten all of the armor pieces just so Zero can sacrifice himself.

Maybe alternatively they could have made it so X could now destroy the ride armor as a pay off to the start of the game but just as X is about to destroy it for good Vile grabs X and sets it to self-destruct which would lead to Zero taking X's place and sacrificing himself to contain the blast while Vile escapes and the second part of the fight begins, that would feel more satisfying imo.

I've rated this game full stars yet I've talked alot about the negatives in this review instead of highlighting the positives but that's just how it goes when you love a game so much I suppose. I have replayed this game many times and have been very into the Mega Man fanbase so I have alot to talk about with this game.

I really like the exploration in this game but once again it is just a bit depressing how the exploration isn't really improved in later games. Well it kind of is but it still feels like so much more could be done but of course that isn't the fault of X1.

This game is an absolute blast but of course you already knew that, still it doesn't hurt to gush about such a masterpiece.
