remakes that cause damage
this is a companion to remakes that can replace
the criteria is effectively the opposite. the games listed here will either be harmful to the original's image, or "remasters" that are broken in ways that make them all around worse to play (silent hill hd collection is the perfect example of this)
suggestions are welcome, but inclusions are strict (no sotc 2018 - the aesthetic is marginally altered but the identity of the game is fully intact and it controls identically)

@apocynadeae It's very subjective if the dungeon design from Untold is worse than the original (I would argue it is much better). While both Untolds has many controversial changes, I wouldn't add it to the list considering Atlus just rereleased the original three games, almost compeltely untouched on Switch. I don't really think they hurt the original game's reputation at all, they are just different experiences.
@Yata777 it's okay to be wrong. On a serious note it's not really relevant on if the dungeon design is "better" or "worse", rather just changing the dungeon design itself alongside the story mode and the grmioire system was a misstep in an attempt to retrofit a work for general audiences. I would add it because I have pretty vivid memories of havinv to explain to someone why Atlus would rather port the originals rather than the Untold games (great logic as "the untold games Fix the originals!)
And also the dungeon design is just worse lol

@apocynadeae gonna look more into it to make a fair call but thanks for bringing it up - i found untold 1 pretty dull (and i was always told not to bother with the original) so i wonder if the original will sway me at all
Has anyone mentioned Mario 3D Allstars yet? I haven’t played it myself but (aside from the limited time deal and outrageous pricetag AND Mario 64 already being on NSO) I’ve heard some pretty egregious complaints about remapped controls, inverted cameras, etc. with no customization options to fix them
that reminded me of Hitman: Blood Money Reprisal
because this game really needed stuff like Instinct Mode that much

Do the issues you mentioned with the Yakuza 3 remaster apply to the other remasters as well? Would it be better to emulate the original PS3 releases over playing the remasters?
can you please remove kirby's extra epic yarn?
that remake doesn't cause damage because epic yarn has nothing to damage to begin with, thank you.

@Sugunii Y4 and Y5 have minor issues, mostly related to some minigames like pool where the controls are over-responsive compared to PS3 and one short sequence in 5, iirc. no broken AI like Y3, though.
Y4/Y5 remastered are basically more good than bad, and emulating the PS3 games is a goddamn pain due to crashes, so they're alright

Dont remove extra epic yarn (it is definitely worse and makes a great game sucky)
I would add BioShock Remastered and Mafia 2: Definitive Edition
something to note here about yakuza 3, the enemy ai is the exact same as it was on the ps3
the problem is with kiryu's quickstep being bugged which is as you know is one of kiryu's most powerful countermeasures to the blocking early on in the game and it was halved because of the new framerate but at least on PC it's fixable through a mod

Legend of Mana and Saga Frontier Remasters. One suffers from obligatory xbr filters, other has high resolution backgrounds contrasting pixelated sprites. And both suffer from mobile style menus with Arial font. The few gameplay additions don't payoff the bootleg feel.

@cappone_ceraio bioshock and mafia are subject to lighting changes, but they're the same game beneath that. not adding things that just rework lighting systems or whatever unless they completely take a sledgehammer to the art direction. this is about remakes that damage the original. if you play bioshock remastered you're still playing bioshock - it's just a little less well lit - nothing the average player will even acknowledge
@huss this is not correct
@heidennaugler similar response to bioshock/mafia. if i include things like this, then i'll be including damn near every remaster ever because they very rarely don't look at least a little bit worse. anyone who takes significant issue with legend of mana remastered isn't going to be interested in anything but the original experience

The Kingdom Hearts and Resident Evil cloud switch ports. Why were these made.
if Bioshock iOS is on here you may as well throw on Drakengard Mobile, still hilarious to me that it even exists
Your list is shit and misguiding.
Bully Scholarship Edition doesn't belong here. It's a definitive edition, not remake.
Persona PSP port is not a remake but a portable version, and to extent is superior version.
Persona 2 Innocent Sin is prequel to Eternal Punishment, and not a remake.
P3P is not a remake, it's portable version of Persona 3.

@druagord i would but i don't think they have their own entries on backloggd (rightfully so)
@pzt eh, bioshock ios actually plays like bioshock (arguably). drakengard mobile is a sidescroller you'd play on like, a blackberry. kinda disingenuous to go that far lmao
@motivateddude
1. the list's description clarifies that rereleases are included. bully scholarship edition is buggier than the original release, performs worse and has fucked lighting. "definitive editions" can be worse than the original releases. this is one such case
2. your logic towards persona psp not being a remake/remaster of the ps1 release is nonexistent and invalid. the games are different from each other. they play, look and sound differently. there's no debating this
3. persona 2 innocent sin is a prequel to persona eternal punishment. that is correct. what's your point? i included the psp remaster which completely neuters the difficulty of the ps1 game. are you unaware that there's a ps1 version?
4. again, if you read the list's description you would know that remasters and "enhanced ports" are included. either way, p3p DOES remake aspects of persona 3. it operates on a completely different battle system, it does not have anime cutscenes and it includes an entire route which changes every social link in the game
if you're going to insist on me being misguiding, then please at least have the courtesy to possess any idea at all as to what the hell you're even talking about

"the list's description clarifies that rereleases are included."
"again, if you read the list's description you would know that remasters and "enhanced ports" are included."
Logic behind the name of list you made is non-existing and invalid. If you're making lists, be specific. This is not remakes list. It's just list of ports that you see as inferior.

damn I had no clue Bioshock was the whole game my bad
@motivateddude calm down no need to get insulting
@motivateddude this list includes more than strictly remakes because what distinguishes remakes, remasters and enhanced ports is subject to opinion and not always equally clear - as evidenced by your dumb ass thinking p1 psp and p3p are simply ports
the title refers specifically to remakes for the sake of brevity. if someone doesn't read the description and is confused (like yourself), then that's their fault
i don't know what bug crawled up your ass and i don't care if it upsets you. motivate yourself to acquire reading comprehension

PS1 Innocent Sin is not fuckin better lol
There's a better sense of difficulty sure and the menus are less clunky but that isn't accounting for everything else that makes it as equally unfun as the PSP ver.
Unskippable animations
Needing to manually setup fusion spells every single time (something you'll have to do a LOT more than the PSP ver cuz the game puts up a fight)
Slower walking speed
Translation is worse
Both versions are painful but for different reasons. Also that's ignoring the actually good things PSP adds:
Remastered OST + original
English Dub
Added content in the form of the movie quest things
The og ui is kinda ugly ngl, I hate the font the fan translation uses. PSP red solos.

I feel your note on Majora's Mask 3D, couldn't have said it better
IS PSP battle theme I prefer over the original ngl, dont know about the rest of the ost tho
@nowitsreyntime17 it's up to personal preference but i don't like the remastered ost at all. sounds too clean. removes a lot of the original atmosphere and doesn't fit in a ps1 game
ps1 school theme
psp school theme
i honestly don't have anything good to say about the remade soundtrack

Eh I dont find it that egregious considering I think those both sounds good, guess it just does come down to personal preference
