deeeeeeeeeee
this really is the most game to be ever made
it's got a super detailed and gorgeous world, the music is pretty good, the ui design, visuals, etc are all well made and it's technically pretty sound so it's super confusing as to why everything about the game itself is just bad
the "loop" and grind is all horribly designed and borderline nonsensical, the gunplay is awful because all the bad guys have a billion health and the loot and the systems around it suck

im extremely pleasantly surprised that this game is so good, it’s honestly an absolutely staggering leap in quality from the first game, that sony money is fuckin crazy
it’s incredibly fun, chaotic and hilarious, and it’s another great recent entry into the “4 player coop game where you play as a bunch of shmucks doing stupid shit” genre
i especially love that they leaned even more into the starship troopers since the first game, it’s such a good tone and it fits this kind of game really really well
there’s some issues with servers/matchmaking and progression that kind of sour the experience so far and i hope to see a lot of the missing stuff from the first game come back at some point (vehicles and mechs soon pls) but otherwise this game has absolutely consumed my time over the past half week and im already eager to hop back in

fun indie game that flew under the radar big time unfortunately
has some solid ideas and a fun tone, albeit one that is very subdued ingame and is mostly only in trailers, probably due to either budget reasons or limitations from it being a twin stick shooter (which might be a bit of a hard sell to some)

2017
(referring to the campaign not the ongoing mp)
for honor’s story mode is a weird little relic in the middle of this live service game
it’s stuck in the days of 2017 with all the long gone mechanics and old balancing, so it makes for a pretty neat time capsule, though playing through it again for the first time in like 8 years, it’s also pretty evident as to why it was never really liked
aside from some pretty solid setpieces and some boss fights that are almost good, the whole campaign is a tedious slog through repetitive objectives and enemies, hilariously bad voice acting and writing that is unremarkable at best and painful at worst
some attempts are made to remedy the tediousness but most of them kinda just fall flat? like a weird horse riding section and a… turret section? what?
not to mention it’s also like. incredibly easy? i beat the whole thing in the highest difficulty and died less than 10 times total
it’s weird because there definitely could have been a pretty decent game here but it feels like the campaign didn’t have the greatest budget

played it through the nightdive port on steam, was pretty good!
weapons felt surprisingly satisfying to use and had better variety i feel than the ones in Q1 and the levels felt for the most part pretty solid for a 1997 game
the change in tone/setting from Q1 is extremely jarring though, it still did start dragging its feet by the end and the boss was.. better by default (it felt like a bossfight) but still not great
also this game might actually have the worst weapon wheel in history, so much so it taught me to use hotkeys for once

some absolutely gorgeous and incredibly designed quake levels
i think unlike dimension of the past this feels like its own thing, it's like if quake was made a few years later
it's still quake though which means it couldn't make a decent boss to save its life, kinda deflating to end off such a good streak of cool ass levels with a wimpy boss for the finale but whatever lol

starts off super strong, the hammer is really fun to use and the levels are still great
the grapple movement puzzles are a bit easy but overall more fun than previous movement puzzles
unfortunately the enemies are even worse than in tag1, they're all just reskins of existing enemies with lame/annoying mechanics, the final boss fight is astoundingly terrible and unfun and the story just kind of ends
the optional levels in the escalation encounters are a cool idea but they kind of peak with the first one? the 2nd and 3rd are for some reason way easier and dont feel anywhere near as rewarding to beat
idk, wasnt the biggest fan even if i wish i could take the hammer to the main game/tag1 because it's everything i wish the crucible was lol

i think it’s a solid game i’m just sick of people hyping it up as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ Himself™️ that was deliberately sabotaged by the Illuminati, when it’s really just a decent shooter that had a terrible launch
it’s like people feel bad for ignoring it so they’re trying to make it up to the game by hyping it up at every waking moment
