just fantastic. tight, full of "oh whooaaa" moments, and paced immaculately.

I adored the studio's previous game, THE MESSENGER, so I was keen to back this on KS. It's beautiful, sounds great, but damn is it lacking in the story and writing. There's nothing new here plotwise, which would be fine if it weren't for Garl. I found him so insanely annoying that it was honestly a struggle to continue once he joined the party.

Got a bit over halfway through (Autumn Hills, which just reminded me how great The Messenger is) before coming to terms with the fact that the battle system wasn't going to get any more interesting, nearly every cutscene featuringGarl being Garl repelled me, and it was time to hang it up.

Beautifully rendered, lovely soundtracks, repellent character. A damn good effort considering their first game was a great riff on Ninja Gaiden!

Phenomenal in all the ways you've heard. It's commendable the way the new arc is woven into Royal, but that last act still feels like something that would have been left on the cutting room floor.

By the time I got into that final semester, I was tiring of the stupendous battle system and kicking the difficulty down to progress the story. I don't have the time or desire to grind like the good ol days.

Still, the stories it tackles, the characters, the sheer design of the thing, are nothing short of incredible. AND THAT SOUNDTRACK!

Has it's pacing problems (it feels rather aimless until about halfway thru), but there are some fun mechanics here. Like if you wove a ton of Mario Party mini games into a semi-adult narrative.

The problem is that since you're resetting your abilities with each chapter, it's tough to feel like you've made progress. The game doesn't evolve beyond "use your powers to solve a puzzle", and the difficulty of said puzzles don't get more difficult as you go.

Again, pacing.

All that said, it is an enjoyable experience that's super accessible and has some fun set pieces!

Short, sweet, whimsical, wonderful.

After about an hour I began to feel like I saw all there was to see, felt all there was to feel about this concept. Cool on paper, but can't imagine doing this for 10 hours 😬

Runs a tad long, but a sublime soundtrack and beautifully haunting mood keep it from overstaying. The detail in the jukebox mode makes it a welcome addition, like a sound test on sterioids, or a music box of your own making

Just a great little game about surviving. Short and sweet. Like some have said,, baffling copy editing mistakes, and the writing can be a tad highfalutin, but when the characters and music are this chill, I'll roll with it. Grow Strange

Maybe if I'd gotten to this before TUNIC, I'd feel better about it. Afterward, this feels like another imitation. Cute character designs, but frustrating combat and samey exploration that even with only 3 laps thru the same style dungeons it overstayed its welcome for me.

The penultimate boss is the game's best, striking in presentation and fun to fight. Glad I got there. After a handful of attempts at the frustratingly protracted final boss I'm putting this down. Not invested in any part of it enough to continue to the credits.

2022

Captures the feeling, but brings its own magic.

When so many "x-likes" just copy the formula to satisfy nostalgia and the thirst for "more", Tunic literally wears its inspiration on its sleeve and captures the wonder of unlocking secrets and pouring over that old manual for clues.

Really something special.

Replayed in 日本語, still holds up. Best of the Advances, and the future setting provides cool theming
