Hades

2018

I desperately need to replay this game, there's so much about it I love.

The artstyle is unique and AMAZING, the graphics are creatively done, the gameplay is borderline addictive and enjoyable enough to the point I can see myself getting deeper into it even though I beat multiple runs already.

Oh and the story; it's the first video game to win a Hugo Award, and for GOOD FUCKING REASON. Zagreus is easily one of the most refreshing and enjoyable protagonists in recent years, and I'm so happy the story uses it to his, and every other character's, advantage. Anybody that says this game is boring, I think doesn't like to read. Because otherwise? Good. Ass. Game.

Goated soundtrack, incredible art style, amazing movement, animations and controls.
Very good level design with lots of unique bioms and crazy good dream sequences.
Pretty fun boss fights as well.
Very surprised with story, it is interesting enough with very good plot-twist.
Sadly trick system is too simple and combat even tho makes like 5% of entire game is very basic and janky.
Very very good game, not only for Jet Set Radio fans.
Now, Sega. Stop slacking and make new JSR.

I've beaten this game nearly five times now and I'm completely convinced it's one of, if not the best platformer of it's kind ever made. One of the rare instances where I can say "they threw every damn idea they had into this" and mean it in a good way.

I'm just gonna do a short review since as of writing this it's near 4am.

Basically, what I was going to write formatted into a bulletpoint list:
-------------------------
+ More forgiving with morality system
+ Improved difficulty and general stealth, enemies now actually have eyes and hit HARD, making stealth have much more tension since you are a glass cannon
+ WAY better combat, balanced better in lethal and non-lethal, making combat have much more of a fun factor in either way since you are a glass cannon
+ World feels just as alive, if not more so than it's predecessor
+ NG+ is incredibly fun and giving you access to the other character's powers is a fantastic idea
+ More memorable and better designed levels
+ Emily's powers are much welcomed additions that make every encounter much more interesting, although Corvo returns if you want familiarity or a change in thought from Emily's playthroughs
+ Bonecharm Crafting is fucking genius but can be very OP
+ Black Bonecharms are literally broken but (almost) all of them change the experience in such a way that it loops back around to being balanced (usually)
-------------------------
= Voice acting for Corvo and Emily are greatly performed and greatly appreciated, but sometimes unnecessary in certain instances
= I really wish the story had more interaction between Corvo and Emily beyond the intro, ESPECIALLY with both of them having the Mark of the Outsider, but I understand why they didn't do so
= Corrupt Bonecharms are really damn cool, but most have such heavy downsides that they're not worth using the upsides for
-------------------------
- Weaker story, although still far from bad or boring
- INCREDIBLY weak OST compared to it's predecessor
- Softlocks in certain missions under specific circumstances (incredibly rare, but it happened to me once)
- Not unplayable but far from amazing PC port, crashing while loading new areas is a very real possibility albeit rare and usually has an autosave happen right as you enter the area
- No "shall we gather for whiskey and cigars tonight?". I'm still salty about that.

I'd say Dishonored 2 is an 9/10, easily being much better than it's predecessor in... almost every way. I do wish the story was just ever so slightly better and I wish Karnaca felt as deeply disturbing and interesting as Dunwall was, but I do love this game a lot, flaws and all.

(I do like Corvo's playthrough a little more, honestly. I love Emily, but I just can't not love Corvo for being one of the best dads in the game industry.)

insane game it feels like they crammed every idea they had into this

Ngl going back to Freedom Planet 1 after a long time not touching the game in preparation for Freedom Planet 2 (Which I bought today) has been quite the fun experience.

It is admittingly an acquired taste since level pacing can go on for a while and it is also much more challenging than things it's been compared to but I generally really like it. Plus the character writing is so adorable. I love when games have it I notice.

Don't go into it expecting a Sonic Like game because it really isn't. But, if you judge it for what it is I feel like there's a lot of great qualities in it that you might like.

Unless I guess you prefer shorter platformers because each level goes on for like 10-20 minutes unlike a Mario 3 where you blast by em within a few minutes. (I personally can handle it but Freedom Planet levels are pretty beefy and full of stage gimmicks.)

Ngl, I think playing a good chunk of Freedom Planet 2 I am confident atm saying it's my favorite new game I played this year.

It really expanded a lot on what I love about Freedom Planet 1 while adding new stuff like extra characters, hub towns for fun NPC dialogue, pretty good writing, and I guess a more ambitious flavor to it.

Honestly, I guess it was refreshing because I've been feeling pretty apathetic for some reason as of late trying new games but Freedom Planet 1 & especially 2 has been a nice surprise.

It won't be for everyone and it can be challenging but at the same time that's what I love about games like this. It feels tailored to my specific personal taste. Honestly recommend it. Good ass game imo

Not gonna lie, Freedom Planet 2's end game legit is some of my personal favorite content in any 2D Platformer I played. Don't want to spoil it but Freedom Planet 2's final boss is legit 🔥 So so well done imo.

But Freedom Planet 2 taps into that magic sauce for me I guess and 1 as well
Ngl but this game is fucking cringe

This is Ultrakill for people who wear thigh highs.

This is my favorite ARPG, I played over 800 hours on this game and spent a bunch of time nerding out creating builds in grim tools as well. My favorite character was an arcanist/occultist who used the chaos aether ray to disintegrate my enemies while being super tanky and regenning from the damage I dealt.

game rules hard with all the DLC and stuff and its like the biggest ARPG ever so that fucks hard but progression is pretty linear and gameplay gets redundant especially if you wanna try out new stuff but who cares becasue i made a lightning shaman who shoots mosquitos and kills bosses in 3 seconds

Diablo-esque action RPG filled with content and a ridiculous amount of different builds and skill trees. Story is pretty basic but the game is super rewarding and the world is filled with secrets

I thought I was bored when I started playing this, but then... I just didn't stop playing. I've always wanted to get into the Diablo games, but they've never done it for me. This does it for me. Still have to finish the last expansion, but I'm well on my way.

I know a game is special to me when I say out loud to myself "this is such a good game" while playing it.

Arguably the best Marvel game released in the past decade. Gameplay is really addicting and solid and kept me busy and invested more than any other game I had played at the time.

The visuals are almost exactly how a comic book game should look, standing out amongst a sea of uninspired superhero titles with bland visuals and dull designs like Marvel's Avengers and Injustice 2. The design work is extremely well-done and there are only a handful of designs in the game that I don't like.

Most of the issues I have with it can be chalked up to the current handling of the Marvel brand and certain characters as a whole, which aren't limited to this game alone. Also the Attilan chapter should be longer and I wish some of the NPCs like Vision, Ant-Man, and Valkyrie were playable.

it's like if doom eternal were able to break free from its origins and also trim the fat of having extraneous objectives that diverge from "the stuff that you literally do in the normal course of playing the game."

VERY stylish and fun to play, can't wait for more updates.
