30 vgm trend

fun challenge since I don't have a lot of VGM to work with. it turned out surprisingly well for being something I stayed awake making until 3 AM!

title screen
"Souls of Fire"

very honorable mentions to "Dearly Beloved" from Kingdom Hearts II and "The Guidance of a White Tower" from Ys Origin. Dark Souls has the better song but the former still gets me in my feelings
opening level
"Glass Ocean"

what an awesome way to kick off a game musically
8-Bit
"Potential for Anything"

definitely more chiptune than 8-bit but oh well, if I were being strict about the rules I'd just put "Mabe Village" from Link's Awakening or something instead

this could also double as the frustration category from spending too many hours grinding out the 1 minute super gravitron achievement, but the song is just too good to make me feel frustrated
console exclusive "series"
"The Opened Way"

not really a series without stretching the definition, but I gotta include one of my favorite songs from (one of) my favorite game(s) somehow!!
hub world/overworld
"Majula"

my least favorite of the trilogy but Majula is something else
relaxing
"Summer Fields"

nothing like the soothing sounds of ripping hella ass around some blokes who keep calling you chicken chaser
indie game
"Chanson d'Automne (2023 Remaster)"

sky meadow is so good. we don't talk about hive cluster
FPS/TPS
"UNATCO"

no. savage.
licensed game
Dr. Dre - "Nuthin' but a "G" Thang" (feat. Snoop Dogg)

I don't play licensed games? I think??? so I just picked a game with licensed music instead
RPG battle theme
"The Man with the Machine Gun"

I mean.....................

N++

puzzle game
dabp - "Twunggg! (I Guess We'll Wait)"

haven't played enough puzzle games so I picked a puzzle-platformer instead. this song belongs more in the underrated category tbh but I had to include the song that's in that category somehow
honorable mention to Len Faki - "Kraft Und Licht" from the same soundtrack
makes me cry
"Aerith's Theme"

"What about my pain? My fingers are tingling. My mouth is dry. My eyes are burning!"
music from a game I dislike
Level 1

kind of a cop out but whatever. maybe I'll change it later
music with vocals
"A New Legendary Opening"

originally my credits entry but I had to swap stuff around. it has opera voices so whatever, the credits hit different with that Toal ending. legendary
boss battle
"Fight With Seymour"

also counts as a song I'll never get tired of
16-Bit
"Schala's Theme"

anything from CT fits really, it's peak
never get tired of it
"Remorse"

also underrated out of the songs on its soundtrack
birth year
"Pallet Town"

I wanted to pick Route 1 or Lavender Town until I remembered that time in like ~2010 where I learned how to play Pallet Town on some piano website lmao
cover
"The Fragrance of Dark Coffee"

glad I suddenly thought of this one because I love jazz and honestly this was probably my gateway into it as a kid lol
racing game
Menu Theme ("Noodle Town")

the perfect soundtrack to sitting in a flash game's chat box as an 11 year old and being called foul names/words that would get censored to brilliant things such as: cooler race, female dog, shewet, fingilly, jiminy cricket, and... lollipop girls????

alternatively, API - "Paradise on E" is a classic too
associated with frustration
"Buy Mode 4"

flashbacks to having nothing to do in the midst of preteen/tween depression and sharing a family PC with my older sister, I'd be stuck complaining about watching her build a house for what felt like forever but was probably more like 2-4 hours. such a peaceful song for such a bad memory rofl
town/village theme
"Rock Solid"

probably not a town or a village...?? I barely know anything about this game but screw the prompts I just think this song bumps
underrated
"Buying Goods at Palmira"

found this while searching for the "worst" VGM on YouTube and it's nowhere near that. pleb filter
constantly stuck in head
"Death by Glamour"

not so much anymore but I had to fit this in somewhere... peak.....
gets you pumped
"Love You Love You Love"

why did they go so hard on this
music from a game I haven't played
"Fire Above the Battle"
nostalgia
"Battle! (Isaac)"

golden sun is THE nostalgia game of all nostalgic games for me. any song fits, the battle theme just slaps
credits
"Promise"

had to keep SH2 here somehow (formerly under relaxing music with "A Day of Night") and found the perfect opportunity
